Review Wu Ji's Mala House - San Jose

First time eating there, and that was a great experience. The service was really nice, the server explained everything and recommended things from the menu. The concept of the place is simply Chinese hot pot with different ingredients, and you can also choose the level of spiciness. My husband really liked the fish cakes. Everything was fresh and delicious. I really recommend this place.

I have been craving hot pot lately and I wanted to try Wu ji’s Mala house for long time and finally had the opportunity to. I got the Lamb Mala pot with 0.5 level of spicy. It was spicy enough for me and I was content with it, but it still made me sweat. The dish included Lamb with vegetables, tofu, fish ball, beef tendon, stewed tripe, pork intestines and glass noodles. They served it with individual pots with a fire going on the bottom. The cabbage on the side provided a perfect crunch to the dish. You can also cook the cabbage to make it soft. I enjoyed this place and will be coming back.

We love the lamb mala hotpot here. My spice level is 4 or 5 cuz it’s not good if it’s not spicy. It’s definitely authentic and the portion is decent for me. We’ve been going here for about 10 years now and the taste is still the same.

Individual hot pot places are a dollar a dozen nowerdays in the bay area. Many of them offering similar tasting pots, except for this place. There are only two options here, spicy (mala) or non-spicy. For spicy you get to choose between 0-5, 5 being the hottest. I personally don't dare to go beyond 3, as any spicier will pretty much light my mouth on fire! Beyond the spiciness, you get to choose from beef, pork, lamb and seafood. All other ingredients are the same and included in each pot. My beef spicy #3 pot was delicious and flavorful, with each bite offering a different taste of the ingredients. If you like spicy and hot pot, go give this place a try, you won't regret it!

An inviting experience where staff feels like friends! The friendly service, sensational food, and reasonable prices make this restaurant a 5-star gem.

Legit spicy, try 4 or 5 if you like strong heat. Love their beef spicy pot.

Comfortable food 👍 The portion is not big but enough for me.

Amazing Taiwanese mala (spicy) hot pot! Their spicy hot pot comes with a variety of goodies including my favorites: intestines and tripe! The hot pots range between $15 - $18 and you can select your preferred level of spice from 1 - 5. They also offer a house broth with no spice, but IMO it's not very flavorful. You can't go wrong with any of the meat, I've tried them all and they're all delicious and fresh!

The hotspots are really good and go for level 0 to 5. I have tried the 5 before and they do warn you about ordering it. The 5 was definitely spicy but tolerable, although if you want to enjoy your meal I would recommend just level 0.5 or 1. I took one star away because they are often closed at the most random times and it is impossible to tell until you get there :(

This is probably the most spicy hot pot place out there. You can order spicy level 1 to 5 or even 0.5. Level 0.5 is good enough for me to enjoy the good and level 2 for me makes whole pot too spicy to even try. They have birthday BOGO with ID.

Good value for money and authentic enough. Place is small though and they kept the door open for ventilation is all I can guess but it was cold out, so made for a not so good experience. Owner was nice enough to inquire if we needed to tone down our spice level after we ordered level 4 (she thought we were new to this style)

Been regularly coming here since it's my friend's favorite mala hot pot spot. We normally order the mala pot with house ingredients; difference being mala pot ingredients include tendon, tripe, and pork intestine while house ingredients has more veggies and shrimp. Choose your spice level, 1 - 5, and if you order anything above 3, ask for some extra tissues for your nose. Their broth has that numb tingling sensation from the peppercorn. This is a very filling lunch, so expect food coma if you come during a workday lunch. Also, REALLLLY high sodium, but hey, it's the price of deliciousness. Only way this place could get better is if they took credit cards.

If you are looking for traditional Taiwanese style of hot pot (individual serving), this is the place. I have personally tried all of the hot pot restaurants in the bay area and this is by far the most outstanding one that is just as good as the popular hot pot restaurants in Taipei. If you are in need for good customer service, then this is NOT IT for you.

Delicious spicy hotpot. If you don't eat innards like I do, you can order the house ingredients but with mala broth. Spiciness comes in 5 levels. Level 1 is usually enough for me. Kinda pricey.

Pretty tasty mala hot pot. Their intestine is very good. If you're not too hungry, the leftover soup can be a whole nother meal.

Flavorful broth. Nice place to go for a birthday since they offer a free meal (with one other meal purchase). Need to present ID. Newbies stick with level 1 spice and work your way up.
