Review Hawaiian Drive Inn - San Jose

All I can say as a native Hawaiian this place offers authentic local kine Hawaiian food. It is rare to find a Hawaiian restaurant that offers lau lau. I got #19 Lau lau, kalua pork n cabbage w/ mac salad n steamed rice. Everything was so ono! The authentic flavor and the way everything was cooked transported me back home to the island of Oahu, cooking a feast w/ my ohana on a special day. Definitely would like to see huli huli chicken, chicken longrice, and lomilomi salmon on the menu added as options to order. I did get a guava, mango, and lilokoi (passionfruit) offering the taste of the islands fruits. The smoothie was so ono and was my first impression of the restaurant before my food order was ready. The portion of food is well worth the price. It's actually a breath of fresh air to get what you pay for. Mahalo to the Hawaiian Drive Inn staff and management. Next time I come visit please have the haupia and malasadas. Mahalo plenty ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿผ

Huge portions for a good price! Owner had great aloha and welcoming vibes for all customers. BBQ Chicken was very moist and flavorful and Katsu was nice and crispy and juicy.

Overall, the food is very consistent here. The chicken teriyaki is always tender. The shrimp could be a little less crunchy but it still good. My kids love their food. Great for take out. Parking is limited at certain time.

My first time eating at this location and the food was delicious!!! Will definitely be returning. Bathrooms were clean and everyone was friendly. Give this place a try.

Great place for shaved ice. We got the Fruit Punch, Watermelon, Pineapple, and Cherry. They also have a huge food selection and we will be back to try that. The little shopping center where it is located is always crowded so getting a parking is not easy.

You know what's better than a regular restaurant? This place! The food is like a hug for your taste buds, and the crew is as friendly as your favorite barista. If you're into memorable meals in a relaxed environment, you've found your new hangout.

A little run down looking, but the food is ono! So dont judge a book by its cover. Looks like everything is cooked fresh to order, so you'll have to wait about 10 minutes give our take a few minutes. But its worth the wait. Lots of menu choices. We ordered the chicken katsu and the fried fish. We ate in, the food came on these giant plates. It had 2 scoops of rice, 1 scoop of Mac salad, green salad and the protein. It was alot, we ended up taking it home.

We got a seafood and bbq chicken combo to share among two people. It was a filling and satisfying dinner for both of us, however, the seafood pieces seemed to have more breading than meat on them. Just beware that the interior of the restaurant is less put together than a neglected fast food restaurant, and the place seems to be more intended for to go orders. 5 stars for the quantity and satisfying nature of the food.

This is a really hopping place with huge platters and plenty of good food. Good prices too!

Seafood plate #1 is big enough for 2 people if youโ€™re both not super hungry. Much better tasting when you at the restaurant!

First time here. We ordered a seafood combo with bbq chicken, chicken katsu mini, and a spam musubi. It was a lot of food! The katsu was crispy and tender inside. Most places overcook it so the chicken inside dries out. The fried shrimp and fish were also well prepared. The bbq chicken had a light garlic, ginger flavor which we liked too. I think we could've just split the seafood combo because it was a big portion. I saw someone eating short ribs and it looked good. I'll try that next time. I would eat here again!

I'm sad I didn't know about this place until recently. Beats any Hawaiian chains available nearby! Kalua pork was juicy but not overly watery like other spots. Portions are big!

Chicken Katsu is crispy breaded chicken. I get it with rice only on the side. So good! Fast. Large portion. Delicious.

Consistent servings! I have lived in Hawaii for 5 years before and this place doesn't disappoint. I highly recommend getting the chicken katsu, the portions are huge!

This may look like a regular old Hawaiian bbq place, but Hawaiian Drive Inn is on the next level, trust me! This place rules, the food is leaps and bounds better than L&L and others. You can even see the difference visually, the colors are richer and of course the flavors are too. The rice is fluffy, the katsu is wonderfully crispy, and the sauce is tangy, sweet, and a little spicy. This was my mini plate, you still get a great serving size (don't mind the missing mac salad, I'm just not a mayo fan lol). Quit your other HBBQ places, go to Hawaiian Drive Inn!!
