Review Poor House Bistro - San Jose

I'm so happy to see this little gem open up again! It was a very long wait, but the new location is amazing. It is now closer to other fun establishments, and walking distance to the Arena. Although this location is new, the food remains the same...DELICIOUS! I ordered my usual crawfish pasta, and it was exactly as I remember. Happy to see you back, Poorhouse Bistro!!

Going on a Thursday and listening to live music was so fun. The food was ok but the catfish po boy could have had less lettuce/sauce and the fish seasoned a bit more. I wasn't a fan of the Cajun fries but that was more like a me thing. Oh and if you are going there for Poor House Bistro you will have different orders for adult drinks. I ordered a beer and lychee mimosa separately.

Currently in a semi construction situation, the Poor House Bistro is temporarily " The Poor House Patio.." The old building has been relocated to Little Italy for a late Summer reopening. But the good times live on! Good Food..Great Music..Good Vibes..Friendly People..oh..and great staff and good cocktails and fresh cold beer..and wine!!

Nice little place. Love the bands outside that play. Tried the food for the first time and loved it! The Drippins Poboy was the best part of our meal! We got some beignets to go, looking forward to trying those soon but we are very full! Would definitely recommend trying this place out!

Ok we have heard of this place for many years and for one reason or another we had not been able to taste the New Orleans style cuisine served here. Finally 2021 did fulfill this long standing wish of ours!! We were wanting something different from our more easily available Asian flavors here in the South Bay and we got exactly what we were looking for! We ordered their BBQ Shrimp Po Boy along with a side of Poorhouse salad and the Cheesy Shrimp and Grits served with a side of the Sautéed veggies. We absolutely loved the Po Boy!! Light flaky crusty bread overflowing with huge mound of fresh shrimp and drizzled with a seasoning that I could die or kill for !! The accompanying salad too was light and flavors rendered from the salad dressing just complemented the dish perfectly! The BBQ Shrimp and Grits too was spot on! We loved the graininess of the grits while the freshest of fresh shrimp were so well cooked and succulent! And the accompanying sautéed vegetables really brought out the best out of each morsel of the Cheesy Shrimp and Grits!!. And then it was gone! We were actually sorry that we did not order more!!! Note to self : order extra from Poorhouse Bistro when getting food delivered and possibly when this pandemic is under control, we must dine in and enjoys the cuisine along with the ambience and music that this place is known for!

What a gem of a place What took me so long to find this place!! Walking distance from the San Jose Dridiron CalTrain station. Ae3some music venue. Awesome food and superb owner and staff. First visit was on Friday and I made sure I went back the next day. And afterwards it was great to go next door to listen to the Delgado Brothers at Poor House Bistro Media

We went for lunch, not much of a crowd. Very elaborate menu but has the basic components of a good southern food. Friend went for gumbo, I went for Po Boy and we shared the beignet. I particularly liked my sandwich with the mix of meats and coleslaw to freshen up the sandwich. First time trying beignet, good portion for sharing.

Ordered blackened chicken pasta and jambalaya and their house special soup. The pasta was fantastic, the sauce was not too thick and very tasty. Jambalaya was a little bit dry so it goes well with a drink. Soup was really good and it came with some grill-toasted bread, which meant it had a bit of smoky flavor. Really good jazz outside and sitting was very accommodating for such a small place. Would definitely return!

Portions are pretty substantial. Went on a Saturday during off peak hours so it was not crowded. The fried seafood platter had a generous serving of oysters, fish, and shrimp. The crawfish pasta was tasty. The bread pudding was warm and indulgent.

Amazing new location for the Poor House Bristo. We were lucky enough to see live music and enjoy Grace and the Grit band!!!

Delicious and rich gumbo and jambalaya. Beignets have a great texture, a bit denser than others I've had. Patio was great for sitting and enjoying the evening.

Came here for lunch on a Friday due to a recommendation from a client. I've lived in the Bay Area all my life, and never realized this existed considering it being so close to the Shark Tank. Never really trying Cajun food I was definitely interested. Food took a while to get, but I'm always willing to wait if it's good and it sure was! Tried a Po Boy for the first time. Wow, delicious! Good price and definitely a big helping for the price. I hear they have live bands so it will be fun to come here during one of those nights after a night from the SAP Center.

I’ve been in search for real Louisiana food since I first moved to California in December, and I finally found a place that reminds me of home. Everything on the menu looked delicious to me, but I’ve been craving crawfish for a very long time so I tried the crawfish. It was $12.99/lb which is pretty expensive to me since I can get cooked crawfish back home for $4.99/lb but this is the only place I’ve seen that does it as close to Louisiana style as possible. The other places claims it’s “Cajun style” or “Louisiana style” but it’s not. This is what Louisiana crawfish looks like. It wasn’t as good as back home, but it was very satisfying to find a place that did it almost right. I can’t wait to come back and try the other things on the menu!

Jambalaya was delicious. Gumbo was good too. I'm stuffed. I will go nap now.

A great place to go for blues, jazz. Tonight featured Andy Santana and The West Coast Cowboys and they even threw in some old school rock ‘n roll! Watching people dance, it was clear a good time was had by all. Too bad PHB is going by the Google wayside.

Not sure why everything is served in takeout containers, but the food is pretty decent and the atmosphere is nice. Lots of interesting menu items, will definitely have to come back again to try them out and also enjoy the live music
