Expensive for the amount of food you get, but some awesome dishes and great selection of alcohol/cocktails. A lot of people come here just for drinks by the bar.
MUST GETS: salmon belly, stuffed chicken wings (they're like lollipops, no bone in the middle!), pork belly, karaage chicken, laminated brioche
DON'T GET: spicy choy & mushrooms (not tasty at all..), dungeness crab donabe rice (not very flavorful, pretty bland)
Great place to go with a group so you can get many dishes and share everything family style!
The bottom line first - It's an enjoyable culinary experience, made with top-notch ingredients, with ups and downs along the way. More "ups" so worth a visit. Be prepared, this is not a cheap dinner.
The menu is almost suspiciously short, but I took that as a good sign, and you can tell that every dish is made with a thought behind it.
We were pleasantly surprised by the soba soup as the (handmade?) noodles were perfect. The ribs were delicious and tender.
Tuna sashimi was excellent, but both maki rolls (shrimp tempura and spicy tuna) were... strange. The thing is, this is not just another traditional Japanese/sushi place, it's more of a fusion menu, and you should approach it as such. For better and worst, I guess.
The dessert was excellent - chocolate donuts with ice cream.
To sum this up - Food is great, but might not be exactly what you expect. Cocktails are good, ambiance is perfect, but it's just not a five stars restaurant (in my humble opinion, of course). Worth a visit, but set your expectations right.
this place is so good i will just have to come back again and again . creative cocktails made from small batches of independent distillery. although the desserts are a miss on the flavours but the mains are soooo good especially the seabass with crispy fish skin on.
My dinner party and I had a wonderful time at Nomica. We ordered beet zuke salmon belly , miso black cod, lettuce cups and several cocktails while waiting for the star of the night... The whole chicken in brioche. Everything was delicious and the service was top notch. The chicken definitely won us over and it was soooo delicious. Thanks!
The food is great there and the service is good even though they are new. The food style is Asian fusion and they don't have the traditional Japanese dishes. A little pricey but the quality is good.
One of my Favorites ~ Superb cocktails , great Japanese Whiskeys ... outstanding service , colorful audience , atmosphere —- and tasty cooking and set-apart dishes . Worth a try ;-)
The food was good! There’s a chicken with bread dish (forgot what the name is) which looks really good — definitely going back to check that out next time.
Japanese Whiskey! Yes please. Such great service by the bartenders and wait staff. Live the new menu at Izakaya Sushi Ran! Don’t forget to be like Popeye and order the spinach salad, sooo good!!!!!
Loved the environment and most of the dishes (especially the salmon belly!). Friendly service in a modern environment!
The restaurant is cute and not too loud. Service was also pretty good and attentive. The waitress had good recommendations on the menu and we ate pretty quickly.
The king salmon is very good. Great quality and fresh. The pork belly was well cooked and had a nice sauce to go with it but I would have liked some crispiness on the top as the texture was a bit boring and, considering the amount of fat in it, it could have been better. Their tofu is really good. Very interesting combination of flavors.
The purple yam desert needed more ice cream... the yam alone is too dry. The ice cream and the kinako on top were very good.
