I wrote this on Yelp:
"I used to be regular there from 1985 until the late 90's, so my thoughts might be less than current. This was a real international place where I met lots of interesting people from around the world. The dancers from the studio upstairs used to come down on Saturday nights and dance on the tables. Tea comes by the pot, and the lavender tea is the best! More recently, you could find middle eastern specialities. This was a real bohemian hangout for while at least. I liked the beat-up antique sewing machine base turned table in the window - I studied many a happy hour there, and made many friends. I was just back for a pot of the lavender tea. It is just as wonderful as it was in 1985, and all of the years since. This place is a gem. I worry as many of my old SF haunts have disappeared. I just hope that this place keeps going forever!
Oh, and the restroom that used to be a ramshackle back room of old wood, is now a high-tech washroom from a starship or something!
The best cafe in the Mission, a place to remember a to be remembered. Poetry, music, wine, good food and good people make of this classical establishment one of the best in SF.
My favorite cafe in the mission. I am grateful for their cappuccinos and bagels and the kindness the owner has shown me. Not friendliness, which anyone can give--real kindness. I had only recently moved to the neighborhood and come in to the cafe a few times when I came in on a rainy day. Without me asking, the owner gave me an umbrella and told me to bring it back if I remembered, but that it was ok if I forgot. A lot of coffee shops (and businesses in general) in SF are aesthetically-pleasing but feel heartless and like you could find them in any city. La Boheme really feels like a center of the community.
Great café with plenty of vegetarian food options and an expansive hot drink menu. The owner is super nice and seems to know the community well. Plenty of seating.
1st visit. Great green chai, smooth lemon zest slices (cake?).
I left my skateboard (30 years old) @ counter to take a call outside. Spaced it. Came back after call & owner asked if I was missing anything? Panic.
Another customer had found skateboard leaning against the counter & handed it over.
You know who you are, thanks so much.
Had the egg cheese bacon croissant, and the locks bagel with a fruit smoothie and just a cold carbonated water. Interesting place. The food was very good. Worth visiting.
Tough location to pull off a traditional chill cafe vibe with the cacophony of BART so near. Considering the location I’ll give it four stars. The Turkish coffee is unfiltered with cardamom and quite good. I recommend grabbing a coffee here and a doughnut from The Jelly Doughnut nearby. Nice pairing if you like your sugar with caffeine.
This place was always the heartbeat of the mission. They need your support. So go drink lots of coffee there. It's very good.
I have never had better tea in my life. His secret lavender blend is legendary. As someone who has served in the armed forces this is TRULY Authentic!!!! Must go!!!!!
Well, service is decent, location is great and prices are a bit overboard. What's missing is the busy cafe w lots of people getting their coffees and food. There used to be lots of almond croissants, bagels and goodies. There was a dance studio upstairs. But that was the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Everything was cheaper especially rent! So you have places like this. They should hire a guitarist once per week and people would come eat, drink.
Lovely atmosphere and really great, fresh food. Cafe owner was wonderfully kind, and loose leaf tea selection was great.
I love this coffee shop. Great for a quick bite or to work. There are plenty of outlets and comfy tables! Amazing food and coffee options. I only didn't love the espresso.
