This review is based on coffee only.
I really wanted to give 5 stars but it wouldn’t be fair to other caffès that serve a true 5 star coffee.
This place is super cute and cozy with a great fresh and zen feeling to it. It makes you want to stay and have your coffee there. Presentation and location definitely deserve a solid 5/5.
I ordered a vanilla latte and it was missing that complexity I like in espresso drinks. I believe it was a bit under extracted, it wanted to be a 5 star coffee but it wasn’t. I’ll give it one more try in a week or two just to make sure it wasn’t one unlucky latte that didn’t come out right.

This place is dreamy. Aesthetically pleasing, beautifully set up for individual work time or meeting someone up for coffee. Justin, the owner, has put his life into Genteel. First starting with a basic coffee cart, then his warehouse location, and now this beautiful shop. Justin also has been diligently learning how to source beans and roast to continue developing the perfect cup. He is creative and will provide you with a good time and a great cup.

Very simple. Clean lines. Art 🖼 mural on the back wall. Tried the Vixen, with almond milk & went for decaf. VERY good! Love that it has activated charcoal in it, made for a perfect ‘matcha’ level thickness that didn’t disappoint but wasn’t overbearing. Would repeat.

Every item on the menu, from their espresso based drinks to their wide variety of teas, is excellent! A delicious option for every need and want.
Pro tip: Don’t snooze on the pastries! My personal faves are the savory croissants and the sticky pecan bun! (Didn’t make the shot, they were too good!)

First time I had Genteel coffee was in their warehouse location downtown on J street.
Easily one of the best coffee spots! Justin is super passionate about coffee and community - just a great guy.
Today I stopped by at their new location for the first time. Looks awesome, great vibe and delicious coffee 😎

My new go to coffee shop in the San Diego area. Great coffee and baked goods and the staff is friendly as well. Indoor seating is limited but they also have a few tables outside.

Finding a coffee shop where the barista is enthusiastic about the fundamentals (espresso and coffee) is rare. Finding a coffee shop where the barista is knowledgeable on those same fundamentals, doubly so. Shoutout to Josh! Among the many local roasters, Genteel Coffee Co stands almost alone!
They managed to do what local cafes have accomplished. All while having an awesome line up of unique and well blended beans. I was fortunate to enjoy a cup of their Papua New Guinea. One sip and I knew I’d be be back. Two sips and I had to write them a review.
If you enjoy quality coffee, exemplary service, and clean/minimal/yet aesthetic cafe - you need to visit this place!
