I come here for the lunch buffet. The food is very tasty and affordable during lunch time. I enjoyed the garlic naan bread and the chicken masala was very tasty.
Great food, service and ambiance. The best thing about this place is the authenticity and balance of spices and the sauce, which the soul of the entree. Their sauces are what each entree demands unlike one sauce with slight variations for all foods.

Ashoka is fantastic. Somewhat off its heyday of years past, the restaurant is just as good as it's always been (with the benefit of being less crowded). Dishes are typical Indian fare and are all delicious. Staff is friendly, but there can be delays when they aren't correctly staffed. Definitely a "forgotten gem" in San Diego. Highly recommend.
The food at Ashoka the Great is amazing because everything is simply perfect. They have great salad, just the right deserts (not too sweet), spicy and not spicy meals (not too salty), fresh fruit, and tasty rice. Everything tastes healthy and fresh, cooked with love. This is the first restaurant where the water was enjoyable and didnβt taste like chlorine.

They have the best naan bread in the world because it is crispy, not burned, and it has fresh garlic with parsley. The customer service is great!!! We will come back and hope you will come to enjoy it too.
They had the food ready on time. The food is great. We had the chicken Tika masala, alu Gobi, lamb korma, nav rattan korma, chicken tandoori, vegetable samosas, garlic and regular Naan. Yumm! If you use grubhub via yelp, keep in mind that when you order the curries, you have a choice to get rice (whole plate) or naan (few pieces). We ended up with a lot of rice and not as much naan.
The luncheon buffet is exotic and generous. Great choices for vegetarians as well as meateaters. The service is really top level, even with the buffet. They have alert eyes in the back of their heads and seem to always be there whenever you need them but never bother you otherwise. Please tip accordingly!
We accidentally ended up at this place since all other places were closed for dinner. The food was exceptionally tasty with right spicy level as requested. The staff was courteous and quick in serving. Ambience is good. I've given one star less cos the complimentary papadam they give before serving the food is cold and almost tasteless. Either they should improve the quality of the same or don't give it at all!
Incredibly delicious healthy food which will please the taste buds going in and the stomach once down, this food is absolutely killer!!! I travel all over the US and can hardly wait to return back the Ashoka, my favorable food anywhere in the USA. Healthy & DELICIOUS βββββββ And I don't work there, but sometimes I wish I did! I wonder if the employees get free food when they work?
