I was in the mood for sushi, this place was near my hotel and had good reviews. I love yellowtail and ordered 12 pieces. The fish was excellent, great quality, and the individual pieces were generous, much larger than you typically get. Plus, the chef gave me an extra piece, Seaweed salad, crab salad, and steamed edamame. All of this was bonus given and not asked for. That’s service and generosity above and beyond. The whole meal was just delicious. I’m definitely coming back next time I’m in San Diego, no question!

I ordered two trays of sushi for a work event. The owner helped me estimate how much to order. The presentation was lovely. More importantly, the sushi was delicious! The group devoured the sushi and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hanaya Sushi is A1!

THE best sushi. Me and a coworker get sushi to-go here for lunch more often than we'd like to admit 😅. The owner really hooks you up with not just quality but quantity when you order rolls to-go. The rolls are nice and fat. This man is a sushi king...nay...a sushi legend ♥️🤌🍣!

Absolutely the best customer service you could ask for. Sushi was phenomenal, very creamy and melts in your mouth. The owner was also very kind enough to give us Japanese drinks and desserts. I will 100% be coming back.

My favorite sushi place in San Diego. The sashimi plate was fresh and super good, especially salmon and escolar. I recommend to come for dinner because it's not busy and the atmosphere is nice.

One of my favorite places in SD! The Chirashi is of such a high value (with more than 20 sashimi and all are very fresh). Very tasty. You can feel that the chef wants to feed every customer with love: the to-go box is filled with Japanese snacks and beverages, reminds me of how my mom prepared bento box for me. Thank you for such a heartwarming memory!

A very delicious spot for sushi. I ordered takeout: sashimi combo, salmon rolls, and nigiri. The fish was fresh and the rolls were meticulously done by the owner himself. Price to quantity/quality ratio is so much more reasonable compared to other sushi places. The owner is also very kind and welcoming — his hospitality reminded me a lot of the hospitality we’d have in Japan. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

Any skepticism I had of ordering sushi from an industrial strip mall was immediately eliminated when I arrived. Hee, the owner, takes great passion into preparing his food, goes above and beyond, and cares about his customers and restaurant. Be patient and kind. Wait times can be up to ~30-40 min depending on day/time - he is operating solo and prioritizes quality > speed. Best to call ahead.

First time visiting this place and I'm not disappointed... I'm disappointed that I did not find it sooner. The owner is so kind and makes you feel welcomed. Currently take out is the only option but hope to visit this place when it opens for indoor dine in because the vibe feels really good. The food was very delicious and fresh. Ordered the spicy tuna roll and yellowtail sushi and it was made with great care and flavor. I will definitely return when I crave sushi to this location!
