Early Lunch with a friend
fFrst time visit at a local family restaurant.. Nice outside seating in addition to inside the restaurant. Nice selection of entrees at a reasonable price
We love coming here. But no reservations except for big parties. Luckily our wait wasn’t too long. Good wine. Great food starting with Caesar salad (the way I judge a good Italian restaurant), veal piccata, pasta etc etc. All highly recommended.
Great team work style service. DELISH pasta, just wow. Five of us out for dinner, five different dishes, all amazing. Big portions. Not one on us can think of a better Italian meal that we have had.
Lorna's Italian kitchen is better then good. The food is always hot, fresh and delicious. The Italian cuisine and friendly atmosphere are perfect for cold nights. Every time I go to lorna's I'm never dissatisfied with the quality of the food or the service and the friends and family that come with me arnt either. My favorite dish has been the simple yet zesty Italian salad for almost 13 years of eating there but I always love the joy's tortellini and the calzone. I continue to be constant customer after 17 years for the wonderful food and amazing service.
BEST CANOLI IN THE CITY, and I'll fight anybody who says different! Seriously, though, everything on the menu is amazing. Go there repeatedly!
Steve's Place. Don't expect "real" italian or even NYC italian... I think of this as "california italian". I have been eating lunch at Lorna's for about thirteen years now. I don't get there as often as I used to when I worked in the UTC area... but this little place is somthing special. The food is always good, The prices are good for the quality and quantity. When my daughter was born and we had to remain in the hospital for several days, my best friend offered to bring us a meal. Yep, Lorna's tagliatelle bolognese (my favorite!). I think i've tried everything on the menu over the years, and many many specials... never walked away hungry and NEVER had a bad dish.
Best affordable Italian food in SD. My favorite dish, Joy's tortolleni with tomato cream sauce. Also great meatballs. Everything is very fresh and full of flavor.
Solid 4 stars. Cute mom and pops place in university city! Food is pretty good reasonably priced! Service is fast.
Lorna's Italian catered our 100 person backyard wedding effortlessly. Ethan and his staff were amazing through the entirety of the process. The food was delicious and we got so many good reviews from our guests! They took care of our appetizers, main course and dessert. Everything we ate was amazing. The price also felt very fair compared to many catering companies we looked at. It seemed like they truly wanted us to have a great experience and not just looking for a sale. I would recommend them to anyone and use them again for any event!
new favorite place!! such a romantic and cute atmosphere with delicious food that's worth the price! we got the lasagna and gnocchi :)
I received the best service of my life here! Attentive staff that genuinely wanted to assist you and was happy that you were there. They even took our food to the back and boxed it up for us when I'd only asked for a box.
The food was great too! Good portions and tasty flavors. The calzone was huge.
Great little spot in a strip mall for dinner. Casual with a nice italian grotto feel. Checkered tablecloths and tight seating with outdoor tables and heaters as well.
Wide array of pasta dishes, pizza, apps, and salads. Their Tortelloni is home made but no other home made fresh pasta. We tried a penne special in a rosa sauce w/ mushrooms, sausage, peas ($18-20). It was tasty and the sausage had excellent consistency but lacked any flavor at all. Just needed some salt basically.
We also tried a Ceasar Salad ($9 or so) that was tasty but swimming in dressing. Kind of felt that everything was swimming in sauce. But the sauces were very good. The Garlic Knots ($7) are huge and very good. Lastly, we tried a giant home made meatball ($8.95)which again had a very nice texture and consistency but lacked any flavor at all.
Service was better than average although one of the bussers who brought our drinks was a bit short snd seemed irritated. Our waiter was very kind and helpful. Total Bill was $60
Overall I think we would return to try some other dishes. Seems like small mistakes that were probably isolated incidents. Thank you for a nice meal.
Wow! Just WOW!
Want a kid friendly restaurant without giving up food quality!?! This is the place!
Everyone is so friendly, the food was incredible. Everything we ordered, spot on! Joy’s Tortellini was amazing. Pasta is best homemade.
Tirimisu and coffee were like stepping into another country. Amazing.
Definitely a 10 out of 10.
A nice American Italian restaurant! I reccomend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys a classic Italian experience! The food was simple but delicious! The only negative about the menu was the limiting vegetarian options, the menu didnt offer many vegetarian options and no vegan options. The complimentary bread was great as well! I highly recommend the garlic knots!
The service was good. The wait time for the food took a normal amount.
The place is pretty packed during dinner hours so keep that in mind if you are visiting with a group of people. I reccomend making reservations if visiting with 3 or more people.
The pictures below: complimentary bread, alfredo pasta, and garlic knots!
It's all about the tagitelle Bolognese here. I've been eating this dish since I was a kid. It's one of the best ones in San Diego. Lorna's is a neighborhood Italian restaurant that's been around for a long time and has always been consistent and delicious. It's located off of strip mall on Governor drive and it's really only known to a locals and their friends. My friend bought me here 20 years ago and I'm still coming back here now. They're Bolognese gets me craving it each time I'm in the area. I'll even come and get it to go even though I don't live in the area anymore. Everything else here is fairly good but the Bolognese is what gets me coming back. Also the service is very nice here you get a strong family vibe whenever you're dining here.
Caesar salad was just ok. The taste of olive oil was too strong and the salad was over dressed. Garlic knots were very good. Meat ball was delicious. Small place but very nice and friendly wait staff
Ordered for the first time here and was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the linguini with clams (turned out to be clam sauce and not clams in the shell, however it was SO GOOD) and eggplant parm. The restaurant was packed with patrons on a Thursday night which was my first sign that I made a great choice. Price is right and portions were great. Will definitely be returning when the Italian crave hits
Ok I was a bit apprehensive about this spot, because when you pull into the parking lot the restaurant comes off as a end cap corner cafe spot. But as we walked up to the establishment it is far from that. The dining area is larger than what it looks like inside then from standing outside. Over all lay out, has outside dining with heater units above the tables, inside is what makes the experience very inviting, warm, and cozy. The floor lay out is tight, tables are fairly close to each other but just enough space between other parties and yourself to enjoy. Music is played softly over head to drown out conversations going on. Although a full house and every table has seat occupied the vibe inside is still relaxing. The waiters are very attentive, calm and reassuring that your experience will be well worth it. The portion amount served per, anti pasta, main courses have a satisfying amount of food maybe even enough to share. The dessert menu has just enough choices to choose from that it makes a bit tough to pick one. The serving sizes are fairly big enough to possibly share as well. I ordered a slice of New York cheese cake with Italian ice cream. Between the two desserts the taste was okay, but nothing over the top. The cheese cake was whippy, and the ice cream was a bit creamy, but non the less still enjoyable. Over all experience was pleasant and I would come back.
Small neighborhood restaurant. Good size menu, Plenty of variety. Notice plenty of people coming for pickup. Eat either outside or enter through the right hand door, enjoy!
Excellent restaurant! Food was delicious! Lots of to-go orders and a full restaurant which tells you how good it is! They cycle through quick though so there’s not a wait to eat! We got the meat lasagna and chicken alfredo with added broccoli as well as the garlic knots and sauce. The chicken alfredo could feed 2 people, I was surprised how much chicken was included! It all tastes very homemade, everything is exceptional. We also got the chocolate cannoli cake which was also delicious. Their pistachio ice cream is made in house, full of pistachios and a must. I’d recommend this place, two thumbs way up!
We had not been to Lorna's in many years since moving to North County. Our decision to return was rewarded with the same outstanding food that we loved so long ago. The atmosphere is simple and casual, but that takes nothing away from the experience.
Lorna's is a solid Italian restaurant. They give you humongous portions and the food is tasty if you like a good marinara based dish. The chicken parmigiana is enough for two people to have a meal given the amount of pasta they give on the side. Same for the calzones. I ordered a custom calzone and really liked the combo of ingredients they allowed you to choose from. No comment on the service, because I've only had takeout here, however, the place is always packed so they must be doing something right!
Don’t let the storefront appearance fool you! We randomly found Lorna’s through Google maps. It is far better than expected!!! The kitchen and dining room are not clearly delineated, and you can walk through the kitchen to the second dining area and the restrooms, so you can see the food being made. Portions are large, and quality is great. We had four adult entrees which we shared with each other (two couples) and our four year old, and still took leftovers home. The specials included shrimp primavera and stuffed eggplant. Both were awesome. Prices were very reasonable as well. Oran, our waiter was very helpful, not intrusive, very professional.
Altogether a very nice experience that was unexpectedly better than anticipated.

Morena is a staple for our family. The food is world class, the setback is great: attentive and thorough with out rushing. The prices are amazing for the quality of the food; that is sine of the best Italian in San Diego.
Absolutely obsessed with their Tagliatelle Bolognese! Doesn't get any better. So glad they're close by - it's a neighborhood staple and favorite for me and all my neighbors. Service is top notch and food is so comforting and delicious.
