Review Blue Point Coastal Cuisine - San Diego

Very high quality seafood restaurant. Service is impeccable. The food is perfectly prepared and delicious. For example, we had the mussels starter, and there was not a single empty shell on the plate -- and I was sorely tempted to consume all the broth that was left. Well worth the pricing!

Classy joint in the heart of downtown. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great menu. I had the New York steak, which was very tasty. My wife was very satisfied with her “Beef n’ Reef, meal. Our friends both had fish, which they reported was very good. The waitress era very efficient but not overly personable - perhaps that’s how they’re trained. Expect to pay at least $40 an entree unless you opt for the chicken. Blue Point is a great refuge from the Gas Lamp craziness - which is why I’d avoid sitting outside. We noticed people trying to enjoy their $150 dinner with sidewalk smokers hanging out 5 feet away. Not my idea of a nice dinner. Great food and great restaurant!

I haven’t been here yet for dinner, but I hope I have time while I’m in town. I did however really enjoy myself during happy hour for some delicious oysters and fresh local beer. The bartender Alexandra was fun and chatty even though she was also busy training a new bartender. The atmosphere is classy and the servers all wear ties, but myself and other guests were all casually dressed.

Upmarket seafood in Gaslamp. Great HHour 5-7 with $1 oysters and other specials like shrimp scampi and mussels. Also good prices on well cocktails and house wine. Fun to hang out at the raw bar - it’s fairly small so can get crowded. Meals at dinner are on the pricey side $40ish but very well done. Faves are halibut and salmon. Professional staff and servers. Manager almost always comes around to greet and check on you. And on Wednesday’s they have wine tasting from Quigley Wines.

The lobster bisque and artisan freshly baked bread were 😋 DELICIOUS. Loved the elegant, upscale yet relaxed vibe and the very warm welcome and customer service. My friends and I stopped in from the very loud and bustling activity just outside the front door in San Diego's Gas Lamp District. The big band and 40 S jazz piped-in background music was a nice, relaxing change before heading back outside.

Phenomenal! Attentive service and amazing food, right in the heart of the Gaslamp. We had the scallops and the lobster risotto and both were outstanding!

The food was quite excellent. The wine was unremarkable - a very common supermarket wine at 3 x the price. Why can't restaurants bring you something a little different? Then you'd feel it was worth paying the premium. The service was fragmented: I think 5 people altogether turned up at my table at various times. And one guy in a suit cleared my plate and said "very delicious". I wasn't sure if it was a statement or a question. Either way, I can only imagine it's the latest thing they've taught them to say in waiter school. Only once did anyone other than I fill either of my 2 glasses. And my main waiter (I think) brought me the happy hour menu instead of the dessert menu; but then he was very happy, if not very focused. But the food was very good and the view from the perspex-protected terrace was quite interesting.

Heartwarming welcome. Excellent service from Amanda. We had a dry martini to accompany our meal and it was really excellent. We were served an appetizer with our Martini. The tuna was really sublime but a little too salty and the fish was too dry. We did not eat it all. A nice place to eat seafood.

Best meal I've ever had!! I've never been a fish lover, but after moving to San Diego from Chicago I made it my goal to give fish and sea food another chance. I came to Blue Point because of their extensive gluten free offerings. My first course was the lobster bisque. This was definitely the best soup I've had in my entire life. I thought about ordering a second bowl - seriously. My main entree was the special for the night which was a halibut served over potato risotto with some vegetables (normally served with a crab crust, but that's not gluten free). Not being a fish lover (or even liker) I was apprehensive, but couldn't have been more impressed. The amount of fish was double what I could eat (and I'm a big eater). The fish didn't taste fishy at all and was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The risotto and vegetables were delicious as well. I finished my meal with a chocolate lava cake (yes, gluten free) and vanilla ice cream. The lava cake was very very sweet, but so good. The prices are high, but not extraordinary - and definitely well worth it. Presentation and service were excellent as well. They also have quite an extensive mixed drink, wine and beer list. I will be back!

Great seafood. Go here. Phil was an excellent server. I had ahi tuna with sesame, it was perfect. Served with a ginger salad, perfect. The fried lemon shrimp was not so flavorful, but that was easy to overlook given the fantastic service. Had lobster bisque to start, 10/10. My wife had surf (half lobster tail and a scallop in lobster sauce served in a scallop shell, delicious) and turf (beef tenderloin ordered medium rare served perfectly). Had a hash brown with horseradish, interesting and complementary to the meal but not our style, it was the only thing we left on either plate. They helped us pair drinks and did a fantastic job of it, thanks Phil! It was our honeymoon, they gave us a free desert, molten lava cake, good Lord delicious. Go here.

Five stars even though this isn't my jam. The good, wait staff are amazing. I ordered the NY strip - cooked exactly how I like it. Food was really good. Why it is not my jam: Not a big fan of their cocktails. They didn't seem to have much of a selection. They are located in the gas lamp district - there are so many options for amazing cocktails and they just didn't have enough of a selection. Also, when you go to a place with steaks and seafood - you would think there would be more options for surf AND turf. They had one menu option that had steak and lobster. How 'bout a handful of options - steak and crab, steak and shrimp, steak and fish . . . . peeps love steaks AND some seafood. Don't want to down on this place too much cus I know a lot of people would love this place - just not my jam.

This was not just a wonderful dinner but a true dining experience! Our waiter, David, was phenomenal and met our every request, which is no small feat with five strong minded ladies. Every course was made to perfection and I can honestly say the lobster risotto, lobster bisque, mushroom ravioli, and halibut were the best I have ever had. Hard to get every dish just right, but they did it.

Fresh seafood, great presentation, good location in the gas lamp.

My circumstances were quite complex but the managers worked with me so that I was able to acquire the food to take to my mom who has dementia. The food was delicious and everyone went beyond what was expected. Great customer service.. Though Saturday night is a usual for most I would rather go on a weekday when parking and foot traffic are much quieter.
