I got to the San Diego Airport early and had 50min to wait so I got a croissant and sausage sandwich at The Counter and a coffee. It was very large and more than I could eat but definitely good. It comes with a garlic sauce which felt a little over the top for breakfast. If I had to order it again, I would just say, easy on the sauce or no sauce.
Also, even though the line was long, it went fast and my sandwich arrived within 5min of ordering. Great job The Counter!

The food and coffee are very good here (ordered a breakfast sandwich with sausage, and ordered a cappuccino), but it is much too expensive. The staff were nice, too. This is a nice place to get a last minute bite before your flight.

The only reason for two stars was due to the service. The cashier was very nice and polite as was the guy handing out the orders. The cooks could care less though and I didn't appreciate their looks when I returned the burger, twice.
I served the country doing things a lot more difficult than cooking burgers but these guys couldn't serve a customer a well done burger if they were in an inferno.
I ordered a burger well done. It came out way too fast to be well done but I'm color blind so I don't see the pink unless it's red/rare but when I bit into the burger, I could tell it wasn't cooked well/properly. I asked the lady beside me if there was pink and she confirmed. The burger was scorched on the outside so it looked like it was cooked, but...
I walked back to the pick up counter and asked for the burger to be redone. He was nice and understanding as he found see it wasn't done right and ordered a burger "extra well" which lets the cooks know..."hey, cook this well and then a little more".
That burger was ready in less than two minutes. Not kidding. In fact it was ready before the order of the lady whose opinion I asked. No way it would be extra well done. I said to the guy at the pick up counter, "I'll just take a bite right here so we can make sure." As it was scorched on the outsideas well.
Since I can't see pink, I showed him the burger and said "can you see?"' In a tone of dismay he says "yeah" and grabs it back. I was actually asking if he could see cause I couldn't but his reaction told me everything.
He asked if I wanted another but I could tell the cook wasn't too happy about the redo and could see his condescending looks my way...I wasn't going to deal with that again so I asked for a chicken salad.
The guy asked me if I wanted my chicken well done? I replied, "it's chicken" are he smiled knowing you got to cook chicken thoroughly. I don't feel he was being sarcastic as he maintained a very nice demeanor thought the three exchanges.
Scorching a burger isn't cooking it thoroughly. This was literally the worst attempt at getting a burger I've ever had in 50 years. The undercooked meat gives me severe stomach issues. Those two horrible bites of undercooked meat caused me so much discomfort during my flight, it was painful
The southwest chicken salad was good but the experience with the burgers were unacceptable.
Learn how to cook well done. Use a thermometer if you can't figure it out.

We are delighted by The Counter’s Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. We ate this after a short flight to California (on our way to Hawaii). We might fly back just for the sandwich.😁 The chipotle sauce was mild and unique and all the other ingredients were top quality. Great for airport food.

Smooth flowing good breakfast in terminal 1. Coffee also not too bad. It's an airport, enjoy your trip!

Breakfast, pastries, coffee and all the goodies you would expect before your flight.
If you were rushing into your flight but needed food this is a great spot to stop they also have a grab and go next-door.
This is a burger place but before lunch it’s a great spot for breakfast.
Prices are not too crazy but they are exactly what you expect at an airport.

burger is STUPIDLY overpriced. not to mention basically bite sized. the meat is WAY overcooked. The pickles are sliced so thin, its basically lettuce and falls out of the burger. lettuce is the cheap shredded kind. they DOUSED the bun in mustard so that becomes the overwhelming taste of the whole burger. The fries are so thin that 4 would equal one regular fry. so really they just take up a lot of space in your kid's meal sized paper bag they are served in. by far the most disappointing thing in this airport. im 5ft 10in weighing 180lbs. I ate everything and feel like I could eat 6 more of these "meals". ridiculous

Absolutely ridiculous. I was standing in line behind someone with a long, complicated order. I’m holding a baby. As I walk up, the clock strikes 1031, literally as he asks if he can help me. Just wanted a breakfast sandwich for my wife. I can still see breakfast items in the back. He says he’s sorry, but I just missed, while I’m standing in line (I was in line before 1030am), HOLDING A BABY. What’s sorry is this business. They could have accommodated. The point of sale machine doesn’t magically cut off. This is just an example of lazy, or not caring. Thanks for nothing “The Counter.”
