An experience of the rarest kind! Somehow, we ended up driving around looking for a place to have breakfast and this quaint little place just happened to catch our eye. Right on the main drag in San Clemente California, Surfin Donuts Coffee shop was the perfect blend of good solid food and a Southern CA experience! Friendly staff and fresh, made daily pastries and coffees started us off. Seeking shade and a place to sit down to enjoy our food, we ended up outside on the back patio. I decided to take a Pic of my donut and coffee when I noticed "Her", the most gorgeous, old growth tree I've ever seen. She has grown into an almost hand shaped haven of cool, green, peaceful leaves and branches. We sat inside her radiant aura and absorbed the beauty for just a few minutes but it reset our burnt out attitudes and our tired smiles. We left feeling satisfied and lighter with smiles and a positive outlook for the day. That feeling of peace and joy has stayed with me all day. What a gift! This place is more about the whole experience and it's definitely worth the visit! And should you go to check out the donuts,, take the time to go out back check out the tree before you leave! Tell her Kimberly sent you! She will remember me.
There’s something about the donut places in Southern California. The hole-in-the wall, unassuming vibe is always a good indicator that you’re in for a solid donut. We went here several days during our week in San Clemente, and I was impressed every time. Affordable donuts that are fresh and GOOD. I’m usually a cake/ old fashioned kind of girl, but their glazed donuts were killer (the cinnamon crumb was incredible). The old fashioned and cake donuts were great too, so the good news is you really can’t go wrong. Only thing I didn’t love was the donut holes, they weren’t as moist and dense as the real thing.
I have traveled through different states looking for my favorite donuts. The pistachio at Danny’s Donuts in Vista is close but my favorite go to donut-the “glazed cinnamon twist” at Surfin Donuts beats them all. Driving between San Diego and Orange County in the morning we can’t help but stop by Surfin Donuts. My wife loves the breakfast croissant and various donuts. A variety of warm tasty serve yourself coffees are always available Simply the best!
7 star donuts place.
I was there at 5:30 am and looking for a coffee shop. This place looked busy for that early and stopped by.
I bought 4 graze donuts and regular coffees.
These were the best donuts I had ever had.
What’s great was we left the donuts inside the car when we were surfing. Then 4 hours later, we ate them. Still fresh and very puffy.
I miss the donuts,
I wish I live close to SanCremente🇺🇸🇺🇸
I surely want to visit here again…
Service is great you don't feel like your being rushed, friendly and inviting also smells amazing obviously lol, going around 03 to 04 in the morning I found be great times to get breakfast sandwiches right out the oven and no long lines in the morning, but even if there is a line it moves quick.
It’s hard to give this place only 4 stars out of 5. It’s hugely popular which says a lot with all the other doughnut choices in town. The doughnuts are SO GOOD. And the breakfast sandwich menu is simple but delicious. It seems to be family owned abs operated which I love, too. Today we tried a dozen old fashioned doughnuts: glazed, maple & chocolate. They were melt in your mouth good. We also had the ham & cheese croissants, one with jalapeño and one without. YUMMY! My only gripe is that parking is tricky. I’m a person on the go and always need to be in and out. The parking lot gets full during peak times and street parking is limited. I had to park in a business center next door and hope I didn’t get in trouble. But otherwise this place is terrific and that little parking issue won’t keep me from coming back. 😊
At 4:00am heading to North San Diego to view past farm operations Surfing Donuts I swear I could smell at 80 mph with my windows rolled down! I had the good music I just needed the good coffee and donut to complete this circle. These are just a few of their offerings as the display case is limited in size. Some good Diedrich and other coffee about a dozen was perfect. I would recommend my old buddies Kean Coffee out of Newport Beach though I believe the two were partners in the beginning. If I could post the smell so heavenly it would get 1000 stars.
OMG! I am sad that I don't live close by to this classic donut shop. After a terrible stay at a nearby "hotel" that advertised a continental breakfast and didn't have anything, not even coffee. 😑
The Surfin Donut House made my day! I ordered a breakfast bagel with bacon, egg and cheese. It was made quickly and very delicious! Excellent fresh bagel and perfectly cooked bacon. If I lived close by I would be here quite often and it seemed that many do. I saw many people come for their donuts and drinks. Very popular place!
Fast and friendly service.
I also got a tasty hazelnut iced coffee and took a Sunday only blueberry fritter for my drive back to Las Vegas. I took a sample bite of the fritter and I nearly devoured it on the spot! Sadly I live many hundreds of miles away, but next time when I visit San Clemente I SURELY will be back for more high quality baked goods from Surfin' Donut House! 5☆☆☆☆☆ 🍩🍪🎂🍪🍩🏄♂️🏄♀️
Swing by after a beach session for a quick snack and a coffee. They have plenty of parking (private) and they have tables out front if you want to eat it there. They have a variety of coffees to choose from, all you have to do is buy a cup and serve yourself.
Wayne brought me some of these donuts. They're fantastic but for some reason the box doesn't have any labels or advertising. Something to think about in the future development
The best donuts. Period. Light, fluffy, sweet and not heavy on the tongue or in the stomach. If I lived in the area I woukd come here often. I live an hour away. Every single time I roll through the city, I make an extra stop off the highway and get the cinnamon roll, a milk and an orange juice. Then I hop back on the highway and indulge in my sweet delights.
Oh you don't know? Fresh squeezed orange juice. I have no idea how they are able to always have sweet oranges.
Here's some cautions for customers. One time I had a donut. A bee stinger was in the donut. It was stuck in the roof of my mouth for ten minutes. Fortunately, I had tweezers in the car and was able to pry it out! I had to take an ibuprofen because the roof of my mouth was tender and swollen. Not even exaggerating! Actually quite annoyed with the flashbacks.
On a recent visit, there were two bees flying in the donut hub. I mentioned this to the employee, I think the owner. Her response, "Shrugged shoulders and that bees were common." I'm confused. Don't people have fatal experiences with bees? Unless you have epinephrine near the donuts, this lackadaisical response concerns me. No signage for bee warning. No closed donut case for bee prevention. Interestingly, peculiar.
And I will likely continue to come here because I'm impressed that they make the simple donut choices great again.
Located East of the El Camino Real exit and a must quick pitstop if you are on the 5 freeway. Easy on, easy off. Don't like donuts? Purchase a healthy smoothie instead.
Best donut I ever had. Also great breakfast sandwich with bacon and egg baked INTO a croissant.
Best ham and chese jalapeno croissants ever made so so so good. Perfect after surf.
Best mom and pop business with fresh homemade baked goods and breakfast sandwiches! Great service, price and quality.
Place had a nice assortment of donuts and pastries. The staff was friendly and the coffee and egg sandwich was good. The only thing it was over $9 for a couple of eggs on a croissant. I know eggs are up in price but not that much.
Every time we’re in San Clemente Surfin Donuts is a must have. Right off the freeway, makes for an easy stop. The donuts are fantastic.
This place was good but it was a bit pricey for doughnuts. I PAID $28 for a box of doughnuts
Donuts were good. Fresh out of the oven ham and cheese croissant was really good too. Lady at counter wasn’t all that friendly.
Great selection and quite the variety. This is always my go-to when I get a Guy Day on my scoot. Love the blueberry donuts and the cronuts (donuts made with croissant dough!)
A note of caution - a coupla donuts and a cup o' joe will run you a little more than what you might expect from the Cambodian Donut Mafia shops might charge. Worth it!
