Review Goodfire Bbq - San Antonio

Huge BBQ fan here so a super critique coming: Side Food: The side portions are huge! A little watery on the Mac N Cheese and Borracho beans. But there A LOT of options. Main Course: This place does not believe in simple salt and pepper. Almost all of the meats are covered in a very well mixed sauce and/or spice. It’s clear that everything is handmade in-house. I HIGHLY recommend the moist brisket and the sausage is the best all time that I’ve ever had (I’ve been to Many of the top ten BBQ places in Texas). The major letdown (relative to everything else) were the ribs as parts of the ribs were dry and tough (indicating uneven cooking which is probably do to mass cooking ribs at once). However the sauce on the ribs was very good! Facility: Fair amount of parking but awkward entry where you might be forced to park on one side and walk to the other to get in as I did. Open seating area, great bar with salsa, condiments, and extras. Many televisions and acceptably clean for a BBQ restaurant. Overall: I love this place and would easily rank it top ten in Texas if the ribs were more tender the next time I come. However, this is a win across the board.

If you have not been here yet, you have to go! I have so much good to say about this place. It's delicious. All of the meats are super tender. I tried the brisket (good), sausage (good), ribs (very good) turkey (best BBQ turkey I've found on San Antonio so far). They have a ton of different BBQ sauces to choose from. I tried the Texas Spicy and the Kansas City. I likes the Kansas City one the best. They have so many sides to choose from. Cream Corn was good and the potato salad were my favorites. Oh and did I mention the bread? So good! The portions are very large! They have beer and margaritas! Service was great! Place was clean. They have also have a drive through. I can't wait to go back.

It was difficult to turn into coming against traffic. If you arent driving WITH the flow of traffic, the cars on the road will block the only entrance when the light is red or traffic is backed up. I feel it's a bad set up. Drive thru wait was long, even though there weren't any cars ahead of us. 2 lanes for convenience though and lots of parking behind the building. The brisket was juicy and delicious. I dunno if it was intentionally shredded like a roast, or if it's supposed to be sliced, but quite frankly it wouldn't matter to me, it was mouthwatering. A little peppery in looks, but not overwhelming. The sausage was underwhelming. I did not like it. My partner didn't like it either and usually he eats all the sausage. Lol The texture was off. The color looks off. It felt like mush in a wet casing. No snap. It was bland, but if anything too sweet with something I can't quite put my finger on, but it just didn't taste "right". It sat untouched after 2 bites. Green beans were seasoned with what seems nothing, but pepper; Needed salt to balance. Mustard Potato salad was okay. Nothing spectacular. Needs a little more chunk to it. It was soft, almost like mashed potatoes. Vinegar slaw. The taste was good and vinegary. It's got a nice little kick, when you bite into what you thought were green peppers, but quickly realized, were jalapenos when the heat hits you. The chopped bbq sandwiches were good. Quite filling as they are large. The bun was thick, but firm and held up well with the amount of meat and sauce. The meat wasnt too greasy or fatty. It's got a nice chunk to it. I would've liked a toasted bun and a little more sauce on the sandwich, maybe some pickles to counter the sauce, but that's just personal preference.

Part One. (Seems like I had more to say than was allowed?) Unexpectedly wonderful customer service, all employees friendly, even bus boys. All came around very regularly to collect completed played and such. Counter service, with knowledgeable cashiers; a , clear and large, denoting the sides and desserts available and already sold out. I was also very glad to find out that they are not one of those places that always undercook and are always out of meats early. Definitely one of the places that do it more as a exception, an in case, rather than expected sell out a few hours after opening. Now for the menu. Expectedly, it includes a few items similar to Chacho's. But they only borrowed the highlights. For example, they have the famous Kong nachos, but this time with upgraded BBQ meat! Featuring the same homemade tortillas, and familiar choices in tacos and burritos. Now for the rest. The traditional way to serve barbecue, with bread, sides; sandwiches, loaded potatoes. Self-serve drinks, self-serve condiments, sauces, including a hot (warm) BBQ sauce, and about 8 other ones, in bottles, waiting to be used! Glad they had spicy, sweet, tangy, and regular ones to satisfy anyone in the family. It might not sound like a lot, but one of the biggest things is that several employees were not only friendly, but excitedly so. They seem like they actually wanted to be there! I actually live within a ten minute's walk here. (I pass by pretty much daily.) They have been semi-open several times, only to (personally) fool me. I felt most offended. How dare they tempt me with a new post-smoked BBQ place and then take it away as if to say unabashedly & boldly, "Hahahaha! Only kidding!" Yes, I could hear the manical laughing. Several months ago, I found out they are owned by the same crew with Chaco's, Chaco's & Chalucchi's! (Very interestingly about the same time Chaco's & Chaluccui's right across the street supposedly burned down.) Well, now I needed to find out whether one of the classic gems for Tex-Mex and Nachos could do as well with barbecue. A few months ago, spied construction workers outside for several days in a row. This was very promising, for I had seen them before 4 maybe at the most today, right before they disappeared, of course. Then I would start seeing graffiti and all the lights disappear; yet another "only kidding" situation. As days passed and no movement otherwise seen, I admittedly became frustrated and pessimistic. Was I going to have to suffer indefinitely? And then, praise the culinary gods, I saw notices of them opening soon. Before I knew it, in my trying not to believe so as to percent much disappointment, I was almost surprised to see it actually open! Real people inside. Real customers! I hesitate to call it a dream, but it might have partially felt like it since I had been waiting it for so long and been craving it so many times. Well. Good Goodfire BBQ live up to the hyped expectations? Actually, yes. Even more than expected as far as ambiance and service go. Specifics. Already noted on the excellent service. the Ambiance primarily includes an array in neon signs, a classic jukebox, and a patio perfect for sunny days. Family-friendly feel, comfortable, a place to become a regular. Food. *Brisket, a la carte, fatty. Not the every best I have had, but among the top. Interestingly it was more dense and messy than most. Pretty sure this is better, even though different. but slices seemed thicker, but the same physical side as other places? It tore apart in bigger, heartier chunks? Either way, this is some of the best brisket (trust me, I have tried over 25 new barbecue places all over Texas in the last two years) I have had in the past couple years. Yes, must be the thicker tasting cuts, but the marbleization and tender, fall-apart moistness did not suffer. I approve! *1/2 Chicken, a la carte. Only 4.99! Though it did suffer from the seemingly inescapable dryness in the breast, the outside portions and leg were moist and full of that flavor, having absorbed it from the post-oak barbecue!

First visit today. As the 3 stars suggest, it's "OK". Nothing spectacular but relatively good value portion-wise. The ribs were tender, the brisket Ok, more Bill Miller's like than anything else. The one major flaw is their attention to the dining area...they don't have trash cans for customers to clear their tables but seem to be under-staffed for cleaning leaving a quite messy dining area very Chacho's like in that sense. If they pay more attention and keep the place better cleaned and attended, this could be a 4 stars overall experience-wise. I'd go again if convenient but it's not one of those places worth a special trip to go visit in my opinion.

The bbq brisket was good. I just felt it could have been better if it was more tender. They have quite a few bbq sauces to choose from and when I asked what they tasted like, which one was sweet, or spicy, etc they couldn't tell me. I didn't want to stand there sampling all of them. Especially since my meal was to go. The sauce was placed on a food bar with many bottles.

This place finally opened and glad it did. Nice large location with outside eating area as well with TV's. Brisket, sausage, Mac/cheese, fries, potato salad and tea. They offer around 5 different sauces. Good was delivered quickly. Brisket - decent Sausage - good Mac/cheese - not do good Mustard potato salad - good Will definitely ho again and try other choices

I was skeptical of this place for months because it was closed for so long but maaaaaaan this is good stuff. It's owned by Chachos and have my same frozen margaritas for one. Still great sizeable food options AND its Baah-buh-quuuuue! I got the turkey &brisket plate with creamy cole slaw, mustard potato salad, and beans and its DID NOT dissapoint. Brisket and turkey was moist and the sides are the best I've had from any BBQ joint around here. they have BBQ sauces for all tastes and they are homemade as well as the bread and tortillas. Definitely a "hidden" gem.
