Our Favorite Mexican Food Place!. We found Taco Tex when we moved to San Antonio 4 years ago and stayed in a near by hotel. It is definitely a hole in the wall, no frills, chicken wall paper type of place. But if you want some of the best Mexican food in the city this is it. We keep coming back because we'll go somewhere else and say, "It's good, but it isn't Taco Tex!" We've loved everything we've tried. The daily specials are very inexpensive. Always generous portions and very fresh and hot. It's our family's favorite!
Great food. Good people. Very good experience all around.
Happy with Tacos. I agree it is hard to find a good Mexican breakfast on a Sunday morning on the northside. I don't know why we waited so long to try this place out. I was craving a potato n egg & my partner wanted a bean, bacon n egg and we shared the lg menudo. I was really happy w my fluffy, well cooked potato n egg taco. It sounds pretty basic but a lot of places somehow screw it up. My partner's taco unfortunately was missing the beans but she said it was still good. The menudo was fresh but light in color and flavor, I added some menudo spice mix and that made it better. Both hot sauces offered were really good with a nice heat level. We're glad to have this option on lazy dazy Sunday mornings.
Trouble finding good breakfast Mexican on the Northside?. So......My next endeavor took me here. The menu reads well and the smells from the kitchen familiar. I settled on the order of migas which was the special and added a side of barbacoa. The service was standard in that it is a "Are you ready to order" type of server. That is the only thing that peaves me. But I'm familiar enough the cuisine to strike out on my own. The coffee was really good and I enjoyed a nice quiet late breakfast before running errands on a day off.
Sizzling fajitas are the best love. All the food best in town.
Terrific Food. We love Taco Tex. Friendly, helpful wait staff, very accommodating to people with special needs and the food is marvelous.
Food was on point!
Ordered the Taco Suicide, Al Carbon Taco and the Breakfast Burrito with bacon and potatoes. Love the Taco Suicide and the Al Carbon taste like a burger.
The service was fast and yet the food was really fresh.
The place have indoor seating and do have numbers of chairs inside.
Aside from the tacos they do have pastries on the counter too.
From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, everything was great. The salsa they serve with the chips..I was obsessed. What we didn't eat with the chips I put on my tacos. It had an amazing flavor and was chunky so you got good bites of onions and peppers and tomatoes. The tacos were filled to bursting and so tasty. But what took our experience over the top was how friendly all of the employees were. All smiles and just all around nice. I have had food from there years ago but this was my first time dining in and its definitely our new weekend taco stop.
This had to be the best Carne Asada and rice I have had anywhere! My kids also loved the bean and cheese tacos! The salsas were amazing and everything tasted fantastic and fresh! Our waitress was so sweet too. Thank you for the amazing food and awesome customer service!
Wandered in looking for a quick, to go lunch and was happy with my meal. Staff was friendly and quick in getting me my carnitas torta. Meat was well seasoned and loaded on the delicious bread. I will need to return to see how the dining in experience is.
Absolutely love stopping here. I love the cheese that they use in the breakfast tacos. I always stop here after doing some laundry every other week, but I can't help it, I just grab some breakfast tacos, usually order ahead so they are ready when I get there.
Greatly price, always hot and ready to go & delicious
On the weekends they service breakfast until closing at 2. Very tasty carne Asada. Service was quick and friendly. Not a very big space but they are pretty packed when full. Clean for a crowded area. Chips and salsa while you wait. Prices were appreciate. I would return.
Great place, good mexican food, not inflated prices! The home salsa is delicious, not spicy - pepper tomato-y. They have a red salsa and green salsa that are on the mild side. Chips are complimentary, which is always enjoyable.
Green chilaquiles are on point - they top it off with cheese, and give you a side of sour cream to do as you please. They service the chilaquiles with eggs, served to your taste, mashed brown beans and bite sized pan/oven cooked potatoes. Also, the guisada was delicious, finger licking good.
They offer homemade corn tortillas and flour tortillas. Each plate came with 2 tortillas.
Will go back.
Great food! One of my top places to eat! Very clean kitchen and great friendly staff and owner! Food was hot and presented nicely. They have in my opinion the best Al-Pastor in San Antonio. You’ll definitely miss out if you don’t already know about this place. Their red & green chilaquiles are delicious. Their pancakes plate are made on point as well. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TO YOU!
Breakfast burrito - 🔥 tacos and homemade corn tortillas - 🔥 carne guisada - 🔥. Awesome family owned restaurant with a great atmosphere and very good to go as well. Legendary San Antonio spot
I've been coming here for over a decade, excellent food. On the weekends. They serve the best menudo. The corn tortillas are some of the best in San Antonio, the tacos, the burritos, all excellent. The horchata is something to write home to Mama about. (If you enjoy good quality, short travel and cooking videos, please visit CuisineQuest on YouTube;)
