Review Thousand Oak Cafe Ii - San Antonio

Harvest Moon
Geez! What can I say... this is my favorite breakfast place! But they also have great lunch as well. Our favorite waitress is Liz! She has the best customer service in all the years we've been visiting this place. My wife loves their coffee... lol Everything they cook is 100% great quality! We were told they freshly grind their coffee daily. ☕️ my favorite breakfast dish is the chilaquiles rancheros! My son loves their shredded chicken puffy tacos 🌮 😋 I recommend this place to anyone who wants great food in a comfy, clean environment.

This is a solid stop for Mexican breakfast. They seem to specialize in breakfast tacos, and carry a huge variety of recipes I've never heard of. I picked 6 random tacos and found all sorts of different variations of meats, potatoes, and eggs in them. All of them were pretty good, and larger than the regular hand-sized tacos you normally find. Had I known, I would have gone for corn tortillas (if they had them) instead of flour.

Always a great meal! In the several years we’ve visited, the service is always welcoming and the food is consistently delicious…homemade tortillas, abundant breakfast tacos. The booths and counter spots are comfy and the ambiente is easy. If this isn’t a family-run place, it definitely feels like it.

Fast service. Great atmosphere. Staff was welcoming and pleasant.

If you are planning to get just a "taquito" for breakfast, don't go, because their tacos are huge, and taste very good. Good service and prices. The atmosphere is just like any other Mexican restaurant. Try it.

I absolutely love the enchiladas here, but although the waitress was nice, she did not come around to often, I had to wait kind of long for my tea to be refilled.

This place is legit! It’s a Mexican food restaurant in a diner type setting. Great breakfast items and plenty of lunch specials to choose from. The price point for breakfast plates is perfect. They have at least four different styles of chilaquiles plates to choose from. I had the Chilaquiles Rancheros for $6.99. It came out of the kitchen piping hot, topped with pico de gallo, ranchera sauce, and cheese. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the tortilla chips were still crispy - not soggy like you find at some places. For $6.99, it included refried beans and potatoes. The taters were good, but the beans could use just a little work - they are just a bit on the runny side. The ham omelet, smothered with cheese, includes 2 pancakes OR beans and potatoes for $7.99. The omelet and the pancakes were both light and fluffy.

Stopped here cause i was in the area. Never heard of the place. Great service. Tacos came out fast and were good. Need to take the wife to try.

Apparently this place has been in existence for quite some time I know it's been several different incarnations. We decided to finally try it. It wasn't the least expensive Mexican food we've had in awhile but it was good.. Was it worth the prices? Hmmm... I had the flautas plate, I thought it was missing the salad and or maybe guacamole and sour cream but let me tell you those flautas were good. Juicy. Crispy. Obviously made to order. Everybody seemed pleased with their food. Except for the prices... Rene, our server was excellent he was pretty busy so it was a little wait for the chili to get back to the table but aside from that a pleasant experiencence. He also made sure to tell me, when I was going to order the the gorditas, that those might take a little bit longer so I thanked him and went with the flautas, good decision... we'll keep it on our places to lunch list but only on a payday or if we win the lottery 😒

Thousand Oaks Cafe is a hidden gem that has become a regular part of my weekly routine. Their Chilaquiles tacos are simply divine, and I find myself ordering them to go 2-3 times every week. The food is consistently delicious, and the portion sizes are generous. What sets Thousand Oaks Cafe apart is not just the amazing food but also their service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to accommodate any special requests. They are also bilingual, something immensely helpful. It's worth noting that Thousand Oaks Cafe has gained a stellar reputation among San Antonio natives, and it's easy to see why. Us locals know that this is the place to go for an authentic and satisfying dining experience. If you haven't tried Thousand Oaks Cafe yet, I highly recommend paying them a visit. Whether you're a Chilaquiles enthusiast like me or simply looking for a fantastic meal, this cafe will exceed your expectations.

Love this place for tacos on the weekend. Food is always good. Order is always accurate. Prices have gone up, but are reasonable. Definitely my go to spot for tacos. Wish they were still open on Sundays.

Best breakfast and incredible enchiladas and lunch. Top notch place in a town with great authentic Mexican food all over. This is truly one of the best in the city..

Great San Antonian Mexican style breakfast. The migas rancheras are my dish. I order the Ranchero sauce on the side. Not spicy, and sometimes could use a touch more oomph, but good flavor. The chilequiles verdes are a favorite with my friends and pack a serious punch. Very inexpensive ($7ish for big breakfast) the wait is never long, and when I call in an order it's ready in 5 minutes even though it's cooked to order.

Great family breakfast cafe. Food is okay. I recommend the Migas regualares plate. Depending on the day, it's my favorite dish for breakfast. Very nice atmosphere for a lazy Saturday/Sunday morning.

This place has the best chilaquiles plate. I have had my share of chilaquiles and these are my favorite. This breakfast place always delivers hot food to the table. Their salsas are good as well. My favorite is the red but I do dabble the green on my potatoes.

RUDE Cashier!! Manager did not seem to care!!!. I like the food but it's not worth the aggravation caused by the rude service.

Great Place. We had breakfast/lunch here on Thursday as we were getting ready to leave town. It was myself, my husband, my parents and our son and his friend. We arrived early and waited for the boys to come from lunch. They are in the Navy and were in uniform. Our waitress was very attentive and patient as we waited for them. We had our lunch and the food was great. When we got ready to go they offered a 50% discount because the boys were in uniform. What a great way to honor our young men and women in the military. I would recommend this place to anyone and would come back.

Breakfast Boost. Last Sunday, after a long morning run on nearby the Salado Creek trail we stopped in to refuel. The place was packed but we quickly found a couple spots at the counter. I ordered coffee and La Mexicana Plate. The service was great and the dish was delivered within a few minutes. It was fantastic--just the ticket. We'll be back.

Heavenly hot breakfast. Now we know where 09ers go for a real-deal breakfast. Not sure about other locations, but this one remains steadily busy, and after driving past it all the time we finally gave it a try. We went in for chicken fried steak and were instead wooed by the enormous breakfast selection. Chilaquiles with chorizo were a hit, and the corn tortillas were freshly made, substantial and piping hot. You know when the San Antonio Fire Department occupies the largest table, it must be good. No frills atmosphere but a real-deal diner with friendly staff and reasonable prices. No hostess seating here; just grab the first seat you can find.

Very fast and very good food. The staff is a joy at the Austin hwy location.

Avoid Jones Maltsberger Location. Food, Service, and MANAGEMENT are TERRIBLE!

We come here at least once every weekend for breakfast. The food is great, service is friendly and quick and they have good coffee.

Great food! Excellent carnitas a la mexicana. Try them with guacamole and lime! Mmmmmmm....

This has become our favorite breakfast on Sunday place. Great food and efficient, friendly wait staff. Sylvia is our favorite. Kudos!

The place you're looking for.... This is it. The neighborhood taco house serving Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and the near northeast side, where the food is fresh, authentic, and great tasting. There was another review that talked about the cashier being non-talkative, and its true, but who cares? The real service comes from the wait staff and the cooks. Try the chilaquiles with chorizo, or the migas rancheras for a true taste of San Antonio. I've been to two of the locations, but hands down the one on Austin Highway is the big winner. Lunch is great too, and I wish they were open for dinner. See y'all there on Sunday mornings!

Major problems with quality and service.

Mexican food in an American diner setting. Of all the Mexican food in Ssn Antonio you have to give this place credit for making it more "American" (ie: bland). Blog post on this page is spot on.

Cute place. The food is excellent. Breakfast tacos! I would eat here for breakfast but not lunch though. The service is sometimes weak and the cashier not very communicative. It's not hard to say "thank you come again!" still the food keeps us coming back.

SOOO soo good, Classic tex-mex food.. I love this place more than I love Blano Cafe #2. Their tortillas are usually 99% of the time perfect, the fillings for the tacos are plenty, hot and so yummy. My favorite thing to order would be the Chilaquiles with chorizo and salsa verde. Hands down best breakfast plate. They use a kiolbasa mexican chorizo that is what makes the difference. There is also the original location on Thousand Oaks and Nacogdoches, I highly recommend either location.

We go there for breakfast just about every Saturday. You rarely have to wait more than two minutes for a table if at all. As soon as you order they bring your food out and it's fresh and hot.

I like it- good lunch specials. really nice & clean atomosphere

Best mexican breakfast in '09!. Delicious! Amazing chilaquiles.

I went to the Thousand Oaks Café on Austin Highway a few times, always wondering why it was called that when it was so far from Thousand Oaks. I was never impressed, but the last time I went, for lunch with my Significant Other, I was so underwhelmed that
