Scuzzi's Italian Restaurant exceeded all expectations! From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the stage for a delightful dining experience. The attentive staff provided impeccable service, enhancing our overall enjoyment. Whether you're a fan of classic pasta dishes or seeking a new culinary adventure, Scuzzi's is a five-star destination for Italian cuisine enthusiasts. Overall, I found the restaurant to be a delightful place to enjoy a meal with an atmosphere that creates a perfect setting for a date night. The food was truly enjoyable, and I would consider it a step above the typical Italian chain restaurants like Olive Garden. The flavors were rich, and the dishes were prepared with care. Each bite tasted authentic and made me appreciate the culinary craftsmanship. One aspect that stood out during my visit was the exceptional service provided by the waitress and staff. They were professional, friendly, and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was pleasant from start to finish. Their knowledge of the menu and ability to make recommendations added to the overall satisfaction of our evening. The ambiance of Scuzzi's was cozy and intimate, with dimmed lights. It was the perfect setting for a date, allowing for conversation without feeling crowded or overwhelmed by noise. I appreciate how the restaurant has curated an environment that complements the dining experience. We would be happy to return again.

Great food! Great menu. Excellent gluten-free options. I couldn’t even tell it was gluten-free. Rudy was very knowledgeable, and his team did a great job ensuring our needs were met. Highly recommend.

Oh my God!!! I am straight up speechless. It was my Birthday Celebration with my family. The staff greeted me with Birthday wishes. They were attentive throughout our time in the restaurant.. The food was heavenly. Garden Salad, Beef Lasagna and a Mimosa. Chicken Piccata, Oysters on the half-shell. Pizza. Eggplant Parmesan. A personal sweet Cannoli for my Birthday. Capuccino, Chocolate Lava Cake. Lemon Curd Cheesecake. Creme Brulée.

You know how they say 'the drinks were good but the food was better'? Here that statement remains true but what was even better was the SERVICE!! My man Rudy was our server and bartender and he didn't miss! Exceptional service all around! He recommended us the shrimp scuzzi's (delicious btw) and made us AMAZING martinis. Now each time we come back we're excited to see him! If you decide to give this place a try, DEFINITLY order the shrimp scuzzi's from Rudy. I promise neither will disappoint!

We had Our Valentine Dinner date this past Saturday, because I work at a flower shop and my hubby runs a hardware store. Schedules don't always work in our favor. Our RSVP was for 6pm and when the beautiful hostess(Valerie) showed us our table it was decorated with rose petals and a clear balloon with LED lights. Romantic setting, Jorge was very attentive, our food came out at the right times, no waiting.... We had a great experience and the food was amazing. We even ordered 2 desserts!!! Most times we never get dessert. I recommend the Eggplant stuffed with scallops and shrimp and calamari(my hubby hasn't stopped talking about it).... We will definitely be back.

Me and my wife went there on Christmas around 2pm, we were immediately greeted by the hostess and even by some servers. My wife really like that. We thought it was going to be hectic because of Christmas but everything was running so smoothly and everyone was so happy. We've been here before and it's always been great! Thank you for being open on Christmas and thank you to the staff for working. 10/10 recommend coming here!

So, the food and service were wonderful. Our waiter was nice, attentive, and gave some awesome recommendations. The food was delicious I had the pesto with chicken. The pesto was very smooth without too much of a salty bite. The minestrone was very hearty. The bread was fantastic and tasted freshly baked. My only complaint was the pasta service could have been a little more for the price. However, I do have a big appetite, so that's just a personal issue. I recommend stopping by and giving it a try.

We visited Scuzzi’s for a late lunch in a largely empty restaurant. Service was outstanding and the food was even better. We loved the spinach artichoke dip! Highly recommended, if a tad expensive.

Daniel & Ricardo were absolutely fantastic. They far exceeded my expectations. Easily a 5-star service experience and I'd recommend everyone to try it out.

Excellent service, quiet ambiance and well prepared food at this establishment. Definitely one of the better Italian restaurants I have been to in San Antonio. At this visit, we had the chicken marsala the chicken gorgonzola and the ahi tuna appetizer. All were exceptional and you could tell all the sauces used were from scratch. Definitely recommend this location.

Absolutely stellar. I met my boyfriend at the bar and the bartender was excellent. The bar was fairly busy and drinks were flowing. We moved to a table and our server’s name was Blue. She was very knowledgeable and did a great job. We had the rainbow trout and chicken piccata. We will definitely back for drinks and/or dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant for a date night.

A great effort that fell a little short. This was our first visit and we were instantly impressed with the attentiveness of the staff. We were seated immediately, and our waiter appeared shortly after. We were informed about the very attractive drink specials, and I ordered a skinny margarita that was served with no sour mix, but was too sweet with agave for my taste. Our waiter offered to replace the drink, but I drank that one and ordered another without the agave, and it was much better. We ordered the shrimp appetizer that was perfectly cooked and served on a hot plate, but the shrimp was only warm, and would have been excellent with hot shrimp. The house salad was good with mixed greens, and a house Italian dressing. My wife ordered tomato basil soup that tasted sour. The manager immediately knew that there was not enough cream in the soup, and offered to make another, that came out much better. We split the prime ribeye with a side of potatoes, and this was our biggest disappointment. The ribeye itself seemed like a good cut, but the flavor of the steak was overpowered by the heavy char flavor of the grill, and the mushroom gravy poured over the steak. We are not sure if the gravy was mentioned on the menu, but it really takes away from a steak. The potatoes were heavy on the rosemary for me, but it could be a matter of taste.
The Wednesday drink specials are a great value, and the service was really extraordinary, the food just was not what it could be.

Best dessert tray I ever had. Recommendation by Russ our server and that was the best part. I have to food was great and service was fantastic but dessert was out of this world.

We went there for Mother's Day. They were VERY busy. they sat us down 15min after our reservation time but I think it's understandable for Mother's Day. The food was absolutely delicious and can't wait to go back. I would recommend making a reservation before going there on busy days

I went here on Valentine's Day and truly felt the love and confidence from the staff. The inside of this restaurant is quite quaint . The complimentary bread and olive oil they give is divine and perfectly flaky. I haven't tried every dish, however, if you are looking for a delicious, old school Italian restaurant, look no further.

February 2017 - In order or severity; 1) Horrendously overpriced. 2) Extremely slow service and what there was was poor. 3) Filthy restrooms in non-working condition. 4) Reasonably tasty food but in tiny portions. The fact that the place was nearly empty should have been our first clue.
John Terry
The food was delicious. We went there couple of night ago and there was an hour wait time but it worth it.
Josiah Hudson
Came here for the first time for lunch today and I was very impressed. The food was great the prices are fair and the service was excellent. Definitely will come back to try another dish.
Jasmine Jones
I love this place. The atmosphere is great, they have a bar are if you just want to sit back and watch a game, and they even have a party room if you want to have a party or meeting. I love their food, its so rich in flavor. Been here many times and its one of my favorites Italian restaurant.

Excellent food, atmosphere and service!!! Definitely my go-to restaurant when I want to enjoy a nice dinner or entertain friends and family. I love Scuzzis!!!!!
Tamara Diaz
A+ food, A+ staff and excellent wine selection! My spinach carciofi was delicious and the knowledgeable bartender paired it with an amazing Italian wine.
If you want incredible Italian food with upscale atmosphere you need to go to Scuzzi's.
Ali
Fantastic service and phenomenal food. Kiddos to the staff they did a fantastic job. Went there on tue for half price wine bottles. They will allow you to order from their capital and still honor half off wine bottle. We ordered silver oak cab that normally is $195 and we only paid $97.50 that was a fantastic deal. Will be back for sure.
Matthew Cortez
We just dined here for an early thanksgiving eve dinner. They do $5 cocktails on Wednesdays and I got to try 3 different ones and they were all good. It's unfortunate that we couldn't stay for their live music. We Will be back and tell friends

If you love Italian you must visit Scuzzi's, they have great food and excellent service. They also have happy hour and a wide variety of wines.

My girlfriend and I took my son for a simple lunch. And let me tell you we had two very different experiences. First off, I'm an Italian American born and raised in Brooklyn New York. So I know my Italian food and take it extremely serious. And this place, does too!
Their food was absolutely delicious. The pasta, the pizza, the fried calamari, the wine, Everything! The night of my birthday we had who I later learned was the owner service us, Mazi. He was very cheerful and warming. His night staff was as well. My family and I felt at home and had a lot of fun celebrating together there.

Delicious Italian eatery in San Antonio. My friend and I came across this place couple of days ago. Top notch service from the waiters and staff. They were great with recommendations.

The food itself was amazing. I ordered the Grilled Tenderloin and it was heaven! Just the right amount to leave you full, but also light enough where you didn't feel like you were in a food coma. Very reasonable prices.

I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in the area!

Lunch: we (3) arrived early (11;00) and seated at a 4 top. Atmosphere is beautiful and tables are spaced pleasantly so no bumping other chairs. Food was good. Italian wedding soup could have more flavor, maybe made with a stock instead of water? Bruschetta topping was so great but crustini underneath was really thin & soggy. Bathrooms need a little maintenance, ie; securing toilet seats, sweeping corners. The Italian Margarita was most excellent. Best part of the whole experience: Alex, our server. Very attentive, courteous & helpful with our selection. Would recommend this place on him alone.

Food was decent, service was horrible! We sat we two small children for almost two hours waiting for drinks and food then finally the bill. The waiter seemed very preoccupied but not concerned with our table at all.

I have only made one visit to Scuzzi's and was very pleased with it. Excellent food, I had veal Marsala with pesto pasta, everything was good, and fair prices. I highly recommend a visit if you have not been, for some excellent Italian food.

The Food is great. We had read the reviews and even went in and tried the food which is outstanding so I met with the manager Mazi to set up dinner for 110 people. Our event is a by invitation only each member is checked in and then checked off of the list at the end of the night when we received the bill we were charged for an extra 12 people. We showed the list that had been verified by three of our staff members with no avail. After about 30 minutes of discussion we decided to pay the bill rather than continue to argue because we did not want to have a debate in front of our guests. The evening up until that point was wonderful the service was outstanding however being overcharged for 12 people did not leave a very good taste in our mouth's. We attempted to rectify the discrepancy however he said that his staff could not have made a mistake. I am writing the review in hopes that agreement can be made. I would hope that the restaurant and it's owners would value the reviews of it's patrons

Disappointed. Really lousy service and arrogant attitudes.
When the manager was called to assist, he was just as rude and unhelpful as the wait staff.
He explained that their poor service is "how they do things".
When I asked for the owner, he said he was the owner.

I overheard another man at the table next to us complaining that they were understaffed...and they were also getting lousy service.

I have been here before to celebrate a birthday. When I looked over my credit card statement, the waiter had added an additional amount to the 20% tip we had already left him.

Good customer service starts at the top with management.
Apparently poor customer service does also.

Very Poor Service. On Thursday Dec 4th I had my wife call in an order for 2 Italian Sausage and Peppers with Roasted Potatoes. It was shortly after 5 pm when I arrived to p/u my food. When I entered the Restuarant there was no one in the reception area and 1 table in the dining room with a customer.
Your waiter Dennis came out, i said i was p/u an order to go for Bob. Dennis said the order was being put together at the time.
I paid for the food, i left a favorable tip, and waited for the food.
While standing in the reception area, a group of 3 ladies came into the bar and Dennis went to service them. From that point on Dennis did not check on my order, 25 minutes went by, and he sat in a corner with his I Phone.
You had a receptionist who had a bad cough. She walked throughout the dining area coughing sneezing and even wiped her nose on her sleeve.
At one point the receptionist took a white towel, sneezed in it, then took the liquid to wipe down the menus and sprayed the contaminated towel with this liquid and proceeded to wipe the menus.
All this time i am waiting in the reception area and no one has even asked me what i was there for. This went on for 20 plus minutes.
Finally another waiter came over to me and asked if he could help me and if i would like a drink of water. I said no thank you i am just waiting for my takeout food which should have already been cooked with only 1 customer in the dining room.
Finally Brian my original waiter came towards me and asked if he could help me, after 25 minutes. I said i just wanted to get my food and leave. This waiter did not even remember me and i was the only person standing alone in the receptionist area for 25 minutes.
This is the first time i have ever written a bad report on any restaurant. The service was piss poor to say the least. The food was good. Which saved the day.
Bob

Outrageously expensive food. There were barely 4 people dining the other night and I know why. No one can afford your outrageous prices. $14 for spaghetti and meat sauce without salad? $2.99 for tea?! Give me a damn break! This place needs to close down. There are many other places in town that don't overly charge like they do. You can go get a whole box of 100 bags of tea at HEB for $3.00. There is no reason in hell they should ever charge such amounts for food and beverage.

I'd rather cook instead. We were excited to try a new Italian restaurant and give my husband a change from the typical eateries around where we live. Let's just say we were thoroughly underwhelmed with the food this restaurant had to offer. The staff are very friendly and shaky/nervous. Our waiter actually stabbed my chest while cleaning the bread crumbs from the table and dropped a spoon on our friends' head. In the future for the hiring manager, servers with steady hands might help. My husband's dish would have been better at olive garden, which neither of us are fans of. The chicken in my dish seemed to be anorexic. I would expect higher quality and/or larger portions for the price of admission. Sadly, this is not the case at Scuzzi's Italian Grill.
B
Good if you like Bertolli. I was hugely disappointed for what tasted like something I could have made at home from prepackaged meals. The portions were reasonable for a single sitting. At most places, you can expect a pasta dish to have enough leftovers for a second meal, but not so here. If there had been more leftovers, I may have felt better about the price. We were all disappointed, so we won't be going back again.

Consistently GREAT!. This restaurant is a rare find in San Antonio. If you're looking for the typical San Antonio dining experience that's so loud you can barely hear yourself think much less carry on a conversation, and where the wait staff is only concerned about their tip, then this isn't the restaurant for you. This is a great place to take family and friends if you want to enjoy a wonderful meal, conversation, and a nice atmosphere. We eat here regularly and have never been disappointed with the food or service. I'm Italian and very particular about my food but this restaurant ranks among the best in San Antonio without the high price of more popular spots where people go just to be seen.

Yesterday we celebrated Mother's Day here with a reservation for 30 at 12:00 noon. We couldn't have been happier with the way we were received and treated even though it was such a busy day. Naturally since it was Mother's Day the restaurant was packed but the majority of our party was able to be seated and attended to even though many of us arrived before our reservation time. Some had to wait a short time for an additional table to open up but it was no big deal. In the meantime the waiters and management were more than accommodating by helping the little kids to be fed as soon as possible. The waiters, expediters, and beverage staff were efficient and attentive despite our large party. We were delighted with the experience but more importantly the 7 mothers in our group (all Italian) were very pleased which was a real accomplishment. Thanks to the management and staff for a great experience!

Scared to go`. I am going to this restaurant tonight because the birthday girl chose it. After reading the Scuzzi spokes person responding in such an arrogant rude manner, I am already regretting that we did not make other plans. I'll end up with a salad because I have some food concerns and am not able to afford add'l $4 to change the pasta to whole wheat or to put chicken on a salad...that will add up quickly to their already high prices. Hopefully my pre-dinner snack will hold me through an anticipated extended and not very friendly wait.

I get that some people have complaints/concerns about a restaurant, but to have the spokes-person attack those people in a public forum is beyond rude.

We have eaten at Scuzzi a number of times over the last few years, and although the food and service have been good, we feel like we're being ripped off. The menu is ala-carte, the drinks are expensive, and the last straw was an added " tax" to our bill that was explained as a new state tax that we are not being charged at other restaurants we have visited this week. It is disappointing.
Helenfmadison
Delicioso!. My husband and I eat here several times a month. We have found all of the dishes we order to be extremely good and well-presented. We especially like the Gamberi (shrimp) with butter-garlic sauce. The taste and quality beat their competitor across the highway and at a more reasonable price! The owners, managers and wait staff are always very friendly and welcoming.

First time here and it was so delicious. Manager came to table and recommended wine and food. Will definitely be back. The Scuzzi chicken and shrimp special was fabulous. The Caesar salad is fresh. No bagged salad here! Go and enjoy!

Good food and great service. Excellent management, these guys always do their best to make sure your experience is the best.

Amore. I love the food here. We return every 4-8 wks. It seems like this is one of the few Italian restaurants that has a good variety of seafood dishes and definitely many dishes made very tastefully without tomatoes - red sauces are good but you can get them everywhere. What aren't as prevalent in this town are wonderful white sauces, especially like they have here.
Brian
Mediocre at best. Prices are high for amount of food. I had eggplant parm which was ok but pretty bland. My wife had Chicken parm and it was too salty. Appetizer which was spinach artichoke dip was really oily. Our friend had some pomodoro dish with shrimp and she said it was bland.

Last but not least where do you get off charging 7 dollars for a 12 ounce bottled beer. 70 dollars after tip for just my wife and I. Tipped well because it is not the servers fault the food is crap. Sounds bad but olive garden puts this place to shame and that is saying something. I would steer clear and save your money.
Francis
Great Experience. My wife and I eat here occasionally and enjoy it every time. The service is always outstanding and the food is great. The wine menu has excellent choices. This is much better value, and a more enjoyable experience than other more expensive Italian restaurants in this area! Please keep it up and thanks for the care you take of your guests, and for the delicious meals.

Great atmosphere and service! Their food is amazing. We were really impressed.

Valentines Day. I took my sweet-thing to Scuzzi's last night for Valentine's Day. It was our first visit. I had made a reservation a few days before so we were seated right away. It was a very good thing I made the reservation because they were loaded with customers. It's a nice sized place but I would recomend reservations if going on any "big" night or weekend. I was very pleasently impressed with the decor. It's a little surprizing when you get inside as the outside is some what plain. But it is very nice inside. Our food was very good (Eggplant Parm)! And our server (Daniel) was fun, knowledgable, and very attentive. We throughly enjoyied our meal and evening! Thank you for a great night Scuzzi's! We will be back!
Rob Cipriano
Food was pretty good. Mussels were OK, but the sauce was definitely off (way too buttery). Ordered take out so no comment on service.

I went with a party of 17 celebrating two birthdays on 1/13/13 and our server was excellent, he was very attentive and made sure we were all taken care of!! The food was excellent and for a large portion of the party it was some of the best food they ever had! We all were very pleased with the entire experience. The wait staff even offered to cut and serve the birthday cake to the party, this is something I have never had any restaurant ask! I strongly recommend this restaurant not only for the food but the great service!
Llonestar929
Bella Scuzzi's. There is an old saying that ends with the phrase " . . . . .you can't please some people anytime no matter how hard you try", or something similar to that. Obviously a whole bunch of them appear to have chosen to "review" Scuzzi's (smile).

Began dining at Scuzzi's shortly after they opened. There is no better Italian restaraunt in the San Antonio area, for sevice, ambiance, menu selections and quality of food. Have had this feeling reinforced by family members and numerous friends and acquaintences who have dined with us or followed our recommendations to try Scuzzi's.
over the years we have eaten at many fine Italian Restaraunts around the country and on the continent so do have some sense of what real authentic quality Italian food shoud be.like. Scuzzi's servings rate right up there with the best of them, as does everything else they provide.
As long as Mazi and his staff remain there we will continue to join them often.
Eloquent Epicurean
No Excuses Here!. Some construction going on with the patio facing 1604. The quasi al-fresco room will seat 60 - 80 when finished according to management. This large semi-enclosed area will also have it's own small bar.

The bread, salad and paesano-style shrimp that we consumed were all well prepared, plated and presented. Only a minor complaint about one of the shrimp being just a tad mushy - hardly noticeable when covered with the rich butter, garlic wine sauce that would make a pair of Crocs appetizing.

Greeted with enthusiasm, served with passionate gentility, and bade farewell with sincerity, it's a class act. Scuzzi needs no excusing when it comes to enjoyable dining.
Karen
BEST Martini in town. We love Scuzzi's! The dirty martini is fabulous, especially if it is made by Dennis...he is a great bartender. Another favorite is the Shrimp appetizer (Gamberetti) with the delicious hot bread. My favorite dishes are the Pollo alla Griglia and Pollo alla Saltimbocca. My husband really enjoys the Linguini alla Vongole with butter garlic sauce and we always share the Caesar or Scuzzi's salad (both are delicious). Prices are very reasonable and the waitstaff very efficient and knowledgeable. Nice wine list too. Highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. We go weekly...see you there!
Ev Sylvester
ScuzziS. My husband and I had lunch yesterday(Sunday). We had a very caring waiter who was very accomodating and the food was excellent and the warm bread and oil to dip is to die for.
Connie Re
Just had dinner there with a dirty vodka martini and specifically said I don't want olives stuffed with blue cheese. So what do they do? They use the juice from the blue cheese olive jar! One would think that they would also use regular olive juice. Food not as good as it used to be. Portions smaller, but still plenty. Server seemed to just not pay attention at times.
Tamales
Just FYI for real Italian food lovers, this is not authentic Italian food! Non mi e' piaciuto!
Danny G.
The food was fair the prices were a bit high and the service was pretty friendly, but the mangers/owner were extremely pretentious douche bags. Our party all had a four course meal but one of our guest asked if he could substitute the green onions it came with for capers and they refused or was going to charge him 2 dollars for a few measly capers
Bri
SMH. So disappointing. Ordered their happy hour flat bread, it was clearly a "freezer-pizza." They should not be able to get away with serving this. Their dinner was good, but TERRIBLY over priced. I won't be back. Idk how this place stays in business...
Cowboy Ken
Good Food, Better than the chains. Took my wife and daughter for dinner. We each enjoyed our meals. No complaints will be eating there again!
Rick
Olive Garden food at Paesanos prices.
David
Will Not Eat There Again. Do not eat at Scuzzi's. It is not an honorable restaurant. They refused to honor a valid Restaurant.com certificate when trying to pay for the meal, even though they were given the certificate prior to ordering the meal. In addition, they brought to our table an un-ordered desert for my wife. It being her birthday, which we had told our server, I thought nothing of it. When I got the check they charged me for it!!
Kim
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE SCUZZI'S!!!. We discovered Scuzzi's when they first opened and decided to celebrate my birthday there that year. It has been my favorite restaurant since that first visit!! We have enjoyed delicious food and awesome service at every visit...sometimes just the two of us and sometimes with as many as 12 of us. Since today is my birthday, it seemed only fitting that I celebrate with family and friends at Scuzzi's again tonight!! I can't wait, I can almost taste the "Gamberetti Alla Scuzzi’s" and the Eggplant Parmesan - the absolute BEST!!!
Marshallrams
Great Food. Scuzzi's has the best chicken canneloni I've ever eaten. Best in town along with great service!!
Amaropis
SCUZZIS RULES. I have eaten at Scuzzi's multiple times and have always enjoyed a nice dinner with good service. However, a few months ago, this restaurant did something that I will always remember, as lame as that sounds. It was me and my boyfriends anniversary, he took me to the symphony downtown and we rushed back to make it in time for our 10:30 reservation. (They close at 11.) Of course the traffic was horrible, and we made it at 10:47. Okay more like 10:50. The staff welcomed us anyway and were exceptionally friendly and made us feel at home, even though we were 20 minutes late and it was 10 minutes before closing time. Our server was fabulous and our food was delicious, and we were the only two customers in the whole place. We tipped the server fat & still talk about the wonderful evening we had :)

Forget all of these bad reviews, Scuzzi's is daaa bomb
Ruggiero
Hilarious Menu and Poor Food. The only saving grace about this place is the hilarious menu. The Italian couldn't be more incorrect if they tried! The absolute best was "Spaghetti Palle di Carne". Translated means "Spaghetti Balls of Meat". I couldn't stop laughing.

Otherwise another mediocre San Antonio Italian restaurant. This town has no good ones! I was so happy to see Valentinos di Olmos go under. You know you are in a really bad one when you see a bust of Caesar plastered to the wall!
Jackie Coronado
Good Service. Had the Pollo saltimaboca. Chicken, cheese, spinach&proccitto. Very delicious dish. I would greatly recommend.
Shannon
Food Great, Poor Customer Service from Management. Manager was extremely rude when there was a mistake made by himself. Instead of being polite and simply apologizing for his mistake he told us that we did not arrive on time for the reservation we made. This was unbelievable as there were 6 of us and we all arrived for a 6:30 reservation by 6:25! Later we found out that it was the owner who was so rude. The waitstaff and the hostess continually apologized for his behavior. It is pretty bad when the people who work for him know he messed up and he won't admit when he is wrong. Simply for the rudeness of this man we will never be back. As long as you don't have to deal with him you might enjoy your meal!
Bilboinsa
First and foremost, the food is good.. Not great, but good. It seems to be 2 restaurants in one. On the patio you will find families with noisy kids having fun. There, the prices seem a bit steep for what you get. But on the inside, it seems to be a meat market bar with lots of pick-up lines being tossed about and Facebook photos being snapped at a dizzying pace. It was more enjoyable eating outside with children than inside with the posers. Food is good. Not great, but good.
GoodEater
Below average. To say the food is average would be an insult to average places. Zero flavor + overcooked pasta + high prices = shameful.
Dinningdiva29
Bread anyone. My husband and I finally tried Scuzzi's and it will be the first and last time that we dine there. We ordered pretty simple italian fair (spaghetti and meatballs/ Beef Ravioli) neither were worth returning for. The pomodro sauce was tomato, salt and garlic. The meatballs reminded us of the meatballs in chef boyardee. The best part was the bread and sadly that is not enough to warrant a return.
Martin Kuykendall
Ho-Hum. The Missus liked it better than I, but she likes Maggiano's better (for chain dining, I prefer Carrabba's over both). Very average Italian in a very average atmosphere. It almost seems as if it wants to be upscale but doesn't know how to get there. After all of that, you could do worse for the money; just don't expect to be blown away. Service was inexperienced but pretty good.
Sara Gonzales
Give it a try. I am pretty surprised at the number of the reviews that are not very positive. I have been to Scuzzi's several times and have never had a bad experience. I have eaten lunch here during the week with my husband and on a busy Saturday night with my family without any issues. One of my favorite menu items is the beef ravioli. There are not too many restaurants where you can find that, most are only cheese filled. I always enjoy the salad and bread before hand and have always received good service. Don't negative reviews discourage you from trying a great place.
Daniel Xavier Gomez Ybarra
Great lunch spot. Excelelnt service. We went at lunch time on a Saturday, and the place had only 5 other tables in use. Where is everybody?
I ordered the salad with grilled chicken breast accompanied by strawberries! Wow! It was delicious. The dressing was combination of vinagraite and olive oil with taste of honey. Also some pine nuts.

A winner. Scuzzi's never fails to delight in every way. We have been there several times for lunch and dinner. The portions are generous, the food tasty and the service is always wonderful. Yesterday at lunch, our server was Homero and he was training Joe. Homero was knowledgeable and attentive - we couldn't have had a better dining experience. We'll be sure to return.

Unhappy. I have been there a couple of times and the food has been good. This time we took the waiters suggestion for the Halibut w/ crab. Don't.... The fish portion was really, really small. For $27.00, I would be embarrassed to send it out of the kitchen. The flavor was fair. One suggestion to the management, if the portions are that small, take it off the menu and don't let the wait staff promote it. You might lose a customer over this one.....

Don't Believe All The Reviews You Read. I almost did not go hear b/c of some of the reviews. But people's opinions vary for numerous reasons so I decided to give it a shot and try it for myself. RESULTS: 100% pleased with the customer service, the food and the price and would highly recommend to others. Some of the best Italian food I've had. Please try the Chicken Napolatino (sp?)

We visited this joint for Mother's Day. It had the shortest wait, 15 min, while others wait time was 2 hours. Bread and olive oil were fantastic! Menu sounded impressive, but food was just ok. Dessert was no different, looked impressive, but did not fulfill. Nice place though!

Disappointed. Made reservation in the morning of our first visit, which they gladly accepted. Waited about 10 minutes to be seated and then was walked to patio, which we did not ask for. When I told greeter we had a reservation for inside I was told only patio was available and should have been told that when I made the reservation. Waited approx. 15 more minutes and were seated inside. Food was fine, but prefer other places. Waiter was unfriendly and snooty, but did serve the food adequately. Don't plan to return. There are much better Italian restaurants in San Antonio.

Great Italian food and I was really impressed with the service. We always had a full drink and plates were picked up as soon as we finished! Great job y'all!

Our first experience at Scuzzi's put a bad taste in our mouth.. We had a group of 10 of us. 6 adults and four kids... 3 and under. Apon arrival the staff seemed irritated that we didn't have a reservation. Who knew we needed to make reservations... you don't at Olive Garden. Once seated our server was awesome. He wanted to make sure we were all comfortable and wanted to try the specials. Once we ordered... kids being kids.. glad to be alive and ready to eat were a little loud but not anything bothersome.
Out of nowhere the manager came up behind my wife and asked her if she could keep the kids a little quieter.
I quickly looked around to see if anyone was complaining about our kids but only saw other tables with kids eating and having a great time.
Our dinner came but we could barely enjoy it because the manager left this thought in our minds that we had to keep a closer tabs on our kids.
The manager even helped clear our table and was seemingly rushing us out.
Just know this is not a kid friendly restraunt even though they offer a kids menu.

Great Food!!!. I ate at this restaurant on 2/14/2011 and it was great!! The food was great and the service was even better. Our waitor was on top of things. We didn't have to wait for anything, he was constantly watching our table and when we needed something, he was there. The bartender even brought over our drinks if he could instead of waiting on our waitor if he was busy. The manager even cleaned dishes from our table. This was a great experience and I can't wait to eat there again. This is not an extremely cheap place so if you have a child that is a picky eater, then you might not want to take them.

Always good. I love their bread with olive oil and garlic. My favorite is the pomodoro and the kids like the fettucine alfredo.

Only previous reviews left a bad taste in our mouths. I read all the reviews below about an hour before we set out for a late Sunday lunch with family--our first time to Scuzzi's. Needless to say we were set for a lousy time and lousy food based on the reviews. Boy were we surprised. My husband made me write this review just because of all the bad things I reiterated to him on the way there. He had Smoked chicken lasagna, I had the Chicken Napolitana and both were to die for--would order again in a heartbeat. My sister-in-law had the shrimp dish that is like Shrimp Paesano and she said it was as good if not better. The service was great and we ate off the lunch menu and still brought food home. If I were going to complain about anything, it would be that one of the waiters was constantly trying to refill our tea glasses--finally had to put our hands over our glasses to keep him from doing so. But, give him a gold star for being conscientious. The Apple Tort dessert was only average, but then I never met a dessert I didn't like. We will return to Scuzzi's again some time in the future when we are willing to make the 35 minute drive from our home. For us, Scuzzi is a doozie!!!

Good Times. I love Scuzzi's! My girlfriend and I always have a great experience when we go. The patio is very nice. especially at dusk. Food is great and the service has always been very good. I look forward to going again soon.

Fool Me Twice - Shame on Me!. This was my second experience dinning at Scuzzi's, I should have quit after the first. Scuzzi's is trying to sell itself as an elegant upscale dinning experience. Other than the furniture and well dressed hostess, it misses by a mile. The waiter was only interested in rushing us through dinner and out the door. The service was poor at best; the waiter did not know any of the specials and could not recommend a wine to compliment our meal (much less spell). We had to ask to see the wine list again, because he removed it immediately after seating us! The service he provided was clumsy and would have been comical if it was on a sit-com, however, it was not. He poured tea on my daughter and covered the table with cheese, instead of the food. I would have addressed these problems with the manager; but my wife did not want to make a scene. Scuzzi's is charging $$$$ prices for basic Italian food which is no better (or worse) than the Olive Garden. Combine all these factors with poor service; I will never return. There are plenty of real 4 & 5 Star restaurants in San Antonio, do not waste your money and time on this average restaurant masquerading as an upscale wanna-be.

Wonderful experience. We made reservations for lunch Sunday, October 24 to celebrate our daughter's birthday and our son-in-law's return from Afghanistan - 4 adults and 1 pre-teen. Since they live in SA and we don't , our daughter chose the restaurant. Our table was ready when we arrived and Elias, our waiter, was very informative and attentive. The drinks from bar were excellent and we were allowed plenty of time to peruse the menu and make our choices. Our granddaughter chose a plain Caesar salad (her favorite), others had chicken marsala, eggplant parmigiana, beef tenderloin and ribeye. Both steaks were cooked to perfection and the Italian dishes were scrumptuous.
We had told them when we made the reservations that there was a birthday being celebrated - the waitstaff sang "Happy Birthday" in Italian and presented a HUGE piece of Italian cream cake without charge.
We enjoyed after dinner drinks and visited - NO rush to clean off our table or get us to leave.
We have owned restaurants in the past and appreciate the attention the waitstaff and kitchen crew gave to us. It went a LONG way to help make this celebration very special.

"Rules are rules . . .". My guest and I went to Scuzzi's with a Restaurant.com coupon for $25 off. What a deal! Restaurant.com makes it clear to the restaurants they do business with that our part of the deal is to present the coupon BEFORE ordering. Their part is that if there is a problem with the order not complying with the restrictions, we will be told up front. So, we ordered off the lunch menu, which was a mistake on our part because it clearly states "Dinner Only". Yes, we made a mistake. We finished dining. By the way, the Shrimp sauteed in Butter/garlic sauce is to die for! The chicken lazagna is dry and tasteless. The salads look like a child's portion and are wilted. Anyway, our waiter cooly and nonchalantly presents our check with a smug look and states that he can not honor the coupon that we presented from the beginning because we ordered off the lunch menu. We expressed that it would have been nice if we had been told we made a mistake BEFORE we consumed our food! He left and came back with a new check reflecting the dinner prices for our meals and with the coupon deduction, and smuggly told us that that is the best he can do, even though he admitted that we got the smaller lunch portion, but were being charged for the dinner plates . . . but he gave us the deduction.

Now, this wasn't about money--$25 off is a great deal, and I know it. This is about principal. We asked to speak with the manager, who we found out is the owner (Maci? or something like that), who had an identical smug grin on his face as he told us, "Rules are rules, and we all have to follow them". He obviously felt that since we were getting such a good deal to begin with, he shouldn't have to budge on the fact that we were charged for the larger portion but got the smaller portion, or the fact that they made a mistake too accepting the coupon from the beginning yet letting us order off the lunch menu without mentioning the faux pa (We sat down at 3:45 p.m.).

Ok, don't get me wrong, Scuzzi'is food is PHENOMINAL!!! The waitstaff is AMAZING!! Management is ATROCIOUS with the exception of the helpful Tino. I mean, i have no problem paying good money for good food, but when you want to charge me a $3 fee so my 6 & 8 year old can SPLIT a $20 plate, it's BULL. I understand up-ing prices for higher food cost, but just for putting 1plate worth of food on 2plates, give me a break. And on another note, I DO NOT appreciate how MAZI comes up to my table every 15 minutes to see if my wife is enjoying her food, but not extending the question to anyone else at the table. The entire staff is an ASSETT to your company, but MAZI makes me want to never return again.

We ate for lunch and had salads very good and filling

Food Okay - Service Okay -- Won't Go Back.. We had dinner there on 4 Sep 10. I had the Pollo alla Saltimbocca for $16.99 and was disappointed with the sauce and overall meal. My husband had the Vitello alla Marsala for $21.99, which was very good. The wine selection was very good. We were mystified over what could have gone wrong with two very simple drinks ordered from the bar. Very, very watered down. The waiter asked if we wanted a to go box before we were done eating and the manager came 2 minutes later and asked the same thing. Asking this while eating just seems to make us feel rushed.

Has it come to THIS???. I've been there several times and loved the food and service. PROBLEM is I will never go there again and tell EVERY one I know I think they were unjust.
2 adults and 2 children ages 2 and 5.
Adults orders two meals and the 5 year old wanted something on the adult menu, so ordering it knowing that the 2 yr old will eat some. The waiter brings out 2 plates had split the meal without asking. What a nice thing to do..
No, when the bill came they added 3 dollars for the split of the meal. When asked about the bill it was explained by a couple of people that is their policy. Now, come on!!!! Not adults here!!! They are 2 and 5!!!!!!!! It was not explained before the plates went out and I have had my 2 yr old eat off my plate. What next!!! Am I going to be charged for that next time. Way to go Scuzzi. For someone who would have enjoyed eating there a lot will find somewhere else to go. There are to many good eating places out there to be so concerned about 2 children sharing an adult plate.....

It's ok. The waiter was friendly & attentive, the manager was rude when asked about a gluten free menu(?).
the food is ok, my money is on paesanos though.

A serious wtf moment. I was born and bred in new york city and i'm very critical about italian food. i have yet to find a place in san antonio that even comes close to anything remotely resembling an average place back home.

that said, a very good friend of mine visited scuzzi's recently and told me i absolutely HAVE to try it. admittedly, i was very excited about this potential find. so, last saturday we made special plans to eat there. we even held back on having lunch and snacking in order to have a strong appetite for dinner. since there was a short wait for a table, we decide to glance at the menu ahead of time to be ready once seated.

on the top of the menu we saw that there was a charge for sharing a plate...$2.99. honestly, that has got to be the most ridiculous and obnoxious thing i have ever seen on a menu. in a restaurant where they charge $14 for a 65 cent bowl of spaghetti, you would think something like that could be absorbed. are they going to charge additional for electricity for air conditioning for parties of 4 or more?
or, how about if you use 2 napkins?

i can afford $3, but this is a complete insult. this is the kind of nickle and diming that will put an establishment out of business. especially if you consider that there are 5000 other restaurants in san antonio including paesano's right across the highway. we got up and left immediately.

i don't care if the food is good, or even great. the ratings here could be perfect...i would NEVER patronize a place that practices such an outrageous thing. additionally, i will go out of my way to tell everyone i know, not to go there. now, how much did they make in plate sharing that they wont ever see as new business...unbelievable.

i'd much rather see all the trees that were sacrificed and torn down to put this place up, returned to their original lives. it was a much more productive use of the land and overall contribution to life.

p.s. we went next door to willie's ice house and had an absolutely wonderful dinner.

Great food and some okay food. Went there tonight 7-27-2010 and enjoyed it. The Scuzzi salad was delicious - our favorite - and the spinach salad was good but a little sweet - nice strawberries and walnuts. Chicken Napolitano was so good we would order it again - beautifully grilled chcken breasts stuffed with spinach, ricotta, sun dried tomato, yello squash in a white wine sauce. I had the chicken saltimboca which was good but the sauce was a little too sweet so would not order again. Bread was stale but did not ask for a replacement as there was more food than we could eat. The waiter was very nice, pleasant and attentive - should have gotten his name. We also had a $25 coupon from restaurant.com that we got for $2 so we saved $23 on the bill. We left a 20% tip on the before-discount total so our bill for a large salad, half salad, two entrees, iced tea and one glass of wine ($6.50) was $46. Will go again.

7 out of 10. Just ate there today and was quite pleased. We were craving salads, for some reason, and decided both to order salads. At $8 a piece we were worried about the expense. Our waiter was extremely polite and helpful. He asked us if we wanted a half portion of the salad, which we did not know you could do. Points to our waiter. I ordered the Insalata Scuzzi which was perfectly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Heart of palm were very tasty along with the sliced olives. The pine nuts could have been toasted and the canned artichokes cut into more bite size pieces. My friend ordered the Insalata Romana which consisted of a very mild Gorgonzola cheese, balsamic vinaigrette, spinach and toasted almonds. It says caramelized onions but they were more fried than slowly cooked onions. Still the salads were very good. Our entrees consisted of Pollo alla Napolitano and Lasagna di Pollo al Forno. The Polla alla Napolitano was decent. The grilled chicken is stuffed with ricotta cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, zucchini, squash and italian herbs topped with a lemon butter mushroom sauce. The mushrooms could have been sauteed longer. They tasted like raw mushrooms that just leached out their water. Lemon butter sauce needed more lemon and seasoned. Chicken was a little dry but it is difficult to grill really thin pieces of chicken breast. I had the Lasagna di Pollo al Forno. Which was layers of pasta stuffed with smoked chicken, spinach and cheese served with sugarosa (tomato cream) sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese. I liked this very much. Good amount of sauce, the chicken was not too overly smokey, spinach was very tender and there was mounds of cheese everywhere. Very big portion and very delicious. Will go back again when I feel up to the drive.

Interesting Impression. I went there not long ago and I had never heard of this particular place and from the outside of the building you would expect it to be more casual than what it is. No problem though as the food was delicious. A small problem with my Cuba Libre though. The rocks glass was a bit to fancy. It looked like one of those martini glasses without the stem. Why? Way too much rum as well. I stuck with water after that, but my overall experience was good and I will be back eventually.

Oh come on!!!. Oh come on people! I thought I was the most critical eater, but I think I have been trumped! This place is great, hands down. Those of you who didn't like it were either drunk, have no taste, or were there on a night a new chef was being trained. This place is spot on 90% of the time. Keep up the good work Scuzzi's!

SCUZZI' s IS SUPERB!!!. We are still mourning the loss of LA SCALA.

We could not have been more pleased with the multitude of choices. Everyone in our party was very pleased with their choices.
Joel was our favorite waiter at LA SCALA. We look forward to seeing him graduate from busser to waiter.

Great. We are so glad we didn't pay any attention to the other reviews. We just got back from lunch and couldn't ask for a more pleasant experience. Andrew was our server and was very attentive. The food was very plentiful and delicious. We are Italian and were very pleasantly surprised. We will be back.

Not bad at all. My wife and I like this place. The food is really good. I don't think we'd say it's "great". but then again we've traveled around a bit, so we've had "great" italian food. The decor is nice. The service is somewhat stuffy and that's kind of ironic considering the inexpensive prices, but we've just come to accept the fact that good, friendly service-not just here but anywhere-is getting harder and harder to come by. Not that the service at Scuzzi's isn't professional, it is that, but it's rather impersonal.
Having said that, we will go back, but most likely for take-out. Give it a try!
JulieP
Not bad at all!. Nice neighborhood place with good food and decent wine list. Kids loved their dishes. Mac-n-cheese made with a white cheese sauce was an absolute hit! Pizza appeared homemade and not of the prepacked variety. Always a plus for this foodie! Salad Romana was great and not overly dressed with balsamic vinigerette even though it was missing the caramelized onions that was listed. Our dishes were lightly seasoned and accompanied with perfectly made pasta. Service was attentive and friendly. Overall, if you are tired of chain restaurants and still want good Italian food, than this is the place to go. Will visit again....maybe without the kids next time.

It Was Good. We enjoyed our first visit. Trout was excellent, best fish in the city. Caesar salad was a disappointment,....bland. Staff was fair and but should be better for a high end restaurant. We will try again, just for the fish.

Scuzzi. Fantastic menu. The food is wonderful. Our waiter was excellent, very pleasant and attentive.

Will certainly return and will treat out of town guests.

First of all everyone has different opinions to what tastes good, so you can't knock it until you try it. My over all experience was plesent. I rate scuzzi's 8 out of 10. Atmosphere 7.5 It wasn't as romantic as told the tables were too close and back to back booths are not IT. Other then that I thought it was looking good. Service 8.5 There was no wait at 9pm on a Sunday. Waiter was kind of creepie but other then that he knew what he was doing and kept the glasses full. Food 9.0 I ordered Gamberetti di scuzzi. It was delicious but the only bad thing was you have to order pasta on the side for it which makes the overall meal over $20. That why I gave the overall menu price a 7. Try in you just might like it!!!!!!!!

It's OK.. Good food. Nice atmosphere. Nothing really special. A good place to eat, though.

Pretty good. I won't say it is my favorite Italian restaurant, but I do think it's better than Olive Garden. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, I had the pollo napolitano which was really good and a ton of food (about 6pm). The side of pasta had the right amount of sauce. My husband had some kind of spaghetti with tomato and garlic and he said he liked it, it was very fresh tasting. I didn't like that they seemed to seat all of the diners in a line along the wall instead of spreading us out in the room (Why does every restaurant insist on doing that? Space is good! Give us space!). Not much else I can say about this restaurant - it was good, not great, but I did like the atmosphere (except for the space thing). The price was ok - I had plenty of leftovers so I didn't feel ripped off. I would go back.

Horrible all around. From the time i was fooled by the cheap design on the outside to almost getting knocked down by the poor quality of the front door it was the absolute worst thing i spent my money on in a long time..... when i arrived in the front door it was like being greeted at a used car dealership.... 3 different clowns approached me to say hello and i could not understand any of them.... when told that my wait would be 10 minutes it ended up being 35 minutes and i dont know where they get being romantic at... all the tables are right on top of one another and you have no privacy because the managers are always walking around bothering you and then the servers are all hovering over top of you... i was looking for something more private seating.... then the waiter finally got to the table and he was sweating and talking too fast and did not know anything about the wines or food on the menu... i finally just ordered something he said was his favorite... the something alla scuzzi..... when it came out it was drowned in butter and garlic, i guess this was the sauce.... and then a ton of aritchokes and mushrooms... i could not even taste the food.... then also they call it a homeade italian dressing on their salad, it was almost like water and vinegar in a stainless steel cup.... i dont know why anyone would waste their time and money on this place... i was sick after eating there also.... go somewhere else and save yourself from disappointment....
LeKi09
Don't bother. I've tried this place twice and both were a waste of time. After the first visit, I figured that maybe I just didn't care for my particular dish so I gave it another try and again, it was disappointing. The overpriced dish was flavorless and dry. Don't waste your money.

Not like "those chains"-THANK GOODNESS!!!. For those San Antonians who vote the Olive Garden into the San Antonio Express News' no. 1 spot every year for Italian, this is NOT the place for you. But if you want well-prepared, fresh food served in an exquisite environment, Scuzzi's is the place to be. Fresh bread is served with garlic & basil-infused olive oil upon arrival. The wait staff is attentive but not intrusive (you won't hear any of that ridiculous happy birthday let's-all-clap-and-sing baloney), food is served at the perfect temperature and is neither over- or under-cooked. I dined with two friends at lunch, and each meal was carefully prepared and made-to-order. We were all pleasantly surprised despite some of the negative reviews we read here. If you would like to find out what good food is supposed to taste like, visit Scuzzi's. Paesano's, which is located across 1604, is going to get a run for its money when word gets out about this place!

A bit pricey but I enjoyed my meal! Went there for my birthday girls night out dinner and we all had a great time! Waiter left a little to be desired but none of this would stop me from going again!

Poor Scuzzi for a Restaurant. Good location and nice decor. Service is mediocre, waiter was not friendlly or even apologetic when we told him that the meat was not cooked as ordered . Just grabbed the plates and took them off the table. On the pricey side and a hefty charge for splitting a dish. Asked manager why all male waiters, he responded: tried women, didn't work out, irresponsible, have problems with children, husband., men are more responsible, women better at the bar..." . Unbelievable...SEXIST as well. You're better off at Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill.

Disappointment. How disappointing!!!!! My daughter and I visited your restaurant one day at lunch. Had a wonderful meal and a great waitress. She was friendly and attentive. We decided to bring the whole family back the next evening!! Now the disappointment. The waiter was rude, seemed very bothered that we weren't on HIS time schedule. We kept having to ask for refills, etc. The food was another issue. Portions were smaller than at lunch, presentation of the food was a joke. My husband's spaghetti side came dry (he had asked for a marinara sauce and when we finally got the waiter's attention, he took it back and put maybe! a teaspoonfull of sauce on the spaghetti. The chicken was dry that several of us had. Then when the waiter finally got around to checking on us, he just brought the check, and did not ask how everything was, would we like dessert, nothing. Needless to say we will not waste our time or money by returning to your establishment! Which is very disappointing.

EXQUISITE. INVITING, ROMANTIC ATMOSPHERE AND TRULY AUTHENTIC ITALIAN GOURMET. BRAVO!!!
RunninRob
Looks are deceiving.... Great location; nice atmosphere but that's as far as it goes. The food is mediocre and way over-priced for what you get. Note to owners: Italian is NOT EXPENSIVE (at least, it's not supposed to be). And to add insult to injury, they charge you extra for splitting an entree while telling you that you get more food. NOT! For the money - go to Zio's or Olive Garden.
