Ray's Drive-in

We were looking to get our San Antonio puffy taco fix satisfied and figured we’d try the original. Excellent choice! Had a beef and a carne guisada and both were delicious - fully loaded and wonderful crispiness to the shells. But more than that the entire vibe of the place was awesome - full of old thyme random knickknacks. Loved it!

This place was really fun to try puffy tacos. The service was so friendly. We got a bunch of different puffy tacos to try and that was a lot of fun. I personally probably wouldn’t get the lettuce and tomatoes again, because I think the meats almost by themselves would be better. The tortillas were flaky and greasy and full of flavor and texture. We also got the crispy hotdogs which were fun to try. We were able to sit outside by ordering to go. beware, the salsa is extremely spicy.

Great place, very friendly service, and super yummy food. First time having puffy tacos! They're unique! More crispy than crunchy hard shell tacos. The parking in front can get packed, so if you don't like maneuvering in tight spaces, they have ample parking across the street. I didn't see it until I circled the block, so hope this helps someone with that option from the get-go.

Had a great experience at Ray's Drive Inn! I ordered an arnold palmer, guisada puffy taco, and an apple tart with Ice cream of course😃 Service was on point. The puffy taco was crisp around the edges which I enjoyed but that apple tart😍 Drool 🤤 It was served warm and with a cherry on top 🍒 This place has been open for generations for a reason. Keep being great😎 #westside

my wife and I saw Ray's drive inn on the Daytripper and we had been wanting to taste the puffy tacos we live in Houston and made it out there and it was the best decision we made . The place is small but comfy and very friendly staff get there early if you want to dine in but they also have take out let's get into these puffy tacos we both got fajita but I had added avocado to mine some thing so simple but taste so fire nice and crispy shell and tender juicy fajita it was woth the wait this will be a must stop when we come to San Antonio check them out if you haven't already you won't be disappointed 😋

After hearing about Ray’s from the Texas day tripper, Chet, I reasoned that I am no puffy taco connoisseur and wanted to remedy that. Ray’s has the demeanor of a Rudy’s BBQ at first glance. Inside you’ll find a clean and orderly restaurant with friendly, eager to help staff. The ambience is focused on their “puff pride.” Naturally I ordered the original and it was finger licking good. There’s a certain quality here that’s universal. I can now say I’ve had the best puffy tacos in Texas, which probably counts as the universe anyway.

My first today! Ordered the Crispy dogs and reminded me of my childhood, had me teary-eyed. Ordered puffy chicken and beef with tomatoes, lettuce and cheese...man the BEST I've ever had. Shells were Crispy and hot when served. Our waitress was Sandra very super sweet and came to check on us often 10 out of 10!!! I'll be back to try more items on the menu.

This is my go-to place for puffy tacos. I went as soon as they opened and everything was fresh. Sweet tea was sweet and still a bit warm from being freshly brewed but nothing a little more ice couldn't solve. I ordered a bean and cheese, chicken, and avocado puffy taco(s). All with lettuce tomato and cheese. Shells were nice and warm and the food was very tasty and fresh. My server was nice, polite, and came back the right amount of times to make sure I didn't need anything else. I will admit I have been here and the shells not be so fresh but today was a different story, I will keep coming back.

We came here for the puffy tacos. We liked the beef puffy tacos and the fried oyster plate was good too. We liked that they have variety of food besides latin food and also liked the confy atmosphere. The complementary chips and salsa were a little too spicy for us. The service was friendly and attentive. We should've come here sooner and this place would be our go-to if we were locals.
