Wonderful little cafe with friendly staff, quirky decor, and delicious food.
There are a nice mix of daily specials and menu standards.
The tortilla soup is simple and comforting and the salad portions are generous.

This place stays busy and appears to be understaffed, but it was still a good experience. There's booth and table options for seating. I believe I saw an outside table or two. Plenty of parking around the restaurant. I tried the Twin Sister breakfast, which was delicious. We got a big basket of bread to share as part as our meals and it was delicious. I would definitely return for breakfast again.

Bustling restaurant with avid diners. The variety of choices in the menu. I enjoyed my breakfast taco, highly recommended.

Get the Migas!!! Amazing chills little cafe that is a fun place to go. Good seating and great waiters. The decor is interesting but it is a fun place to visit. I will definitely go back when I am in town. Loved the coffee and the water tastes good. I like the waiters and good parking too.

Twin Sisters is one of my fave cozy cafes! Delicious food, and I love the art on the walls. Pro Tip: go for weekend brunch and get a mimosa carafe.

Nice cozy restaurant. Service can get overwhelmed at times, but staff is very polite. The food is pricey, but given the environment, I really didn't mind. You can tell the cooks are college students because presentation means nothing here, lol. But the food is pretty good. Great mix of hippies, Hispanics, and retired folk of both demographics.

My ex-coworker and I make it a point to meet there every month for breakfast to catch up on what's happening in our lives. We absolutely love it there. Jesus is our usual server and he is excellent. He makes sure we are happy with our meal and always prompt.

The staff here is amazing. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was well priced and delicious

Amazed that we found a place with vegan/vegetarian options and were happy to see fresh fruit. Portion sizes were large and the service was friendly. I was expecting more bakery items to be avail though so was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more selection.

Cute little place, was seated right away and our waiter was so nice! Food was good & was quickly bought to us. Would definitely recommend!

Stopped in for a quick bite on the way out of town the coffee, hot chocolate (picture), vacuero omelette, and blueberry muffin were amazing. The muffin was chock full of blueberries and wasn't ridiculously sweet like most muffins it was more of a subtly sweet fruit bread.
I would definitely recommend this place for a quick casual Southwest bite

The entire staff were very friendly and worked as a team to ensure every table was taken care of.

Delicious and healthy food with great workers and loyal customers. I’ve been coming here since I can remember with the same fantastic and thoughtful wait staff and variety of tasty and healthy options. Today my husband, dog and I all went for brunch and sat outside. We got prompt service and they even kept my water full when we were the only ones outside (no small feat as I drink A LOT of water). We had a great breakfast bowl served with a generous side of fruit which was perfect to split with some whole wheat French toast. I ordered sugar free syrup and the waiter was thoughtful enough to leave off the powdered sugar but bring it to the table if I did want it. Our pupper made lots of new staff and customer friends and took full advantage of the ice water dog bowl the had outside for thirsty furry friends. There’s a reason this place has been here for decades!

Had the Twin Sisters breakfast: 2 eggs, yummy bacon, and 'silver dollar pancake.'
All was very satisfying! I did ask, "how big is the silver dollar pancake?" That bad-boy was 6-inches across! 👀
The coffee was hot and very good.
All staff were approachable & pleasant. It was 2018 since I last visited but the ecclectic ambiance greeted you at every turn.
I wonder what's on their lunch menu...? 🤔
Caroline Decherd
I have loved Twin Sisters for the past 30 years! They make the best cookies in town:). Also, I love their local art that rotates monthly. Whenever I go there, it feels like I am at a friend’s house for lunch. Simply the best!

Thought it was a nice spot for a breakfast plate and coffee. Calm atmosphere and some local art on the walls. Kinda of has a diner vibe, but more homey. The food was fantastic and staff were attentive. Looked like they had a bunch of regulars there, which is a good sign. It's also in a safe part of town and there is ample parking. I'm a fan.

Your search for the perfect chicken tortilla soup is over. You've arrived at your destination.

The cinnamon roll pancakes are to die for. Apparently they’re only available on Saturday and Sunday.

Today was the second time trying this place. I thought I found my new lunch spot. The flavor of food is great and the price is good HOWEVER the staff is odd. All their female staff members apparently do not like to speak or wait on tables so as they toss menus and silverware at the people seating down, a sweet gentleman comes around and takes everyone's order. Like I said odd but I'll go with the flow of it since the food is great right??? Wrong, close to end of eating my BAT sandwich something weird was caught up in my food. When I went to retrieve the item out of my mouth it was a light blonde or white hair. I'm a dark brunette. I was gross out but told myself chill, things like this happen all the time in family homes however I wanted the staff to know so I went straight up to the register to try to tell the young lady (multi color hair & shaved sides) about what happened and they need to make sure thier employees in the back are wearing nets. She seemed annoyed because I "didn't wait at my table to tell my waiter " like she felt I should of. Now I felt she was ignoring me, no concern or apology came from her as she punched the keys on the register screen. I repeated myself and she replied I comped your bill then grabbed the hair with a napkin. I felt like she thought I was making this up. Like a person in a movie trying to get a free meal. I told her I have no problem paying, I just wanted yall to know about the problem. Again she replied "I said I comped your bill" but this time it was ruder. To the point I felt like open up my bank account on my phone to show her how much money I had in there. I have never had someone so unprofessional wait on me. No concern or apology came from her at all just I comped the bill. Maybe she doesn't get it or maybe she's a spoiled brat that probably works for family. Whatever the reason is they need to stick her in the back & get her off the floor!!! Guarantee she's killing them in sells.....

We beat the rush, had good service, but wasn't very happy with the food. I ordered the Migas plate. The black beans were excellent, but the Migas lacked flavor. My husband ordered a side of roasted potatoes with his meal, however, they were room temperature. Our waitress was very polite as we sent it back without wanting a replacement. Every restaurant has an 'off' day. I hope that's the case. I was not excited enough about the menu to return.

We are here visiting from Houston and happened upon Twin Sisters and can't wait to come back next time we visit from Houston. The place, the food, and the staff all amazing.

I have loved this place for years. Their food is so fresh and so yummy. I recommend it to everyone. I could eat there every day!
Patty Green Lapsley
Enjoyed tonight having a glass of wine and listening to the music (oldies and a little cajun). The food was great ... chips and salsa, enchiladas for one of us and quiche for another. Carol one of the owners and Margaret (waitress) were attentive to our needs and very friendly. Oh, and a mini cupcake for all patrons for Twin Sister's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We will definitely be back!!
John Palmer
This place has to be one of the top 3 places to eat brunch on the weekends in San Antonio. I love love love this place!

The Avocado, Cream Cheese and Cheese or Vegetarian sandwich is the best thing ever.

I'm completely speechless at how amazing the food was. I ordered my lunch online and drove 5 mins to pick up. I had the Chicken Tortilla Soup with 1/2 sandwich Turkey and cheese on Parmesan bread. OMG!!! It was so amazing. Let me just say that I can't stand romaine lettuce but this sandwich was made so perfectly and homemade that I ate the whole thing including the romaine lettuce. Keep it up you guys. Staff was very friendly. Oh yea I also had the chocolate chip oatmeal cookie and regular chocolate chip WOW!!! So good. The freshly squeezed lemonade was also very delightful. Not even a crumb from my entire meal tasted like it had ever been frozen or microwaved. It all tasted so authentic and homemade. Thank you guys so much. I think I found my new favorite restaurant. I can't wait to try breakfast and dinner. I love the atmosphere as well it's very like indie style I guess you could say. It's AMAZING!

Good coffee. Good food. Nice people. Very busy so there is some waiting. Sandpapery toilet tissue costing them a star.

The food was great! Really enjoyed the Pot Roast! Carol and Staff were so fabulous for Art Show Reception! The food and drink were terrific! THANK YOU! What a contribution to the art community!

Always excellent food. It is difficult to find healthy options in San Antonio. This is where you need to go. Period.
Lauren Bellieu
I love the food!! I had tortilla soap with their delicious cornbread.
I also had 1 double chocolate chip cookie. My husband and I like the Friday night music too!! The staff and the owner are very friendly and nice too!! ❤️

CALL IT SATISFACTORY
Our first visit since the 1980s, I think, or possibly the early 90s. The menu is brief but the specials board is interesting. I chose the Salisbury steak, which comes with two sides; my wife the veggie-burger. First out was my cup of split-pea soup: good, but not nearly as good as I make at home and certainly not as good as Schilo's, the sine qua non of split-pea soup. I chose the cornbread to accompany it, & received a small muffin with good flavour and aroma, but slightly dry texture -- probably baked early in the day & we're there for dinner. Call it satisfactory.
Next come the entrées. My Salisbury steak is nicely done but the gravy is a a bit congealed, as though it had been sitting for a while. Odd, because it seemed to come fairly promptly. The flavour is good, as is the texture. It's accompanied by a broccoli-rice casserole which also seems to have been sitting, cooling, somewhere. Good flavour and nicely seasoned, but less than perfect mouthfeel. Again, satisfactory, nothing more.
My wife's veggie burger is surprisingly good. it looks, feels and tastes like meat, and the bun was great. If it weren't for the addition of avocado I would have eaten the whole thing, but she was smart enough to put the avocado on before offering me a taste. It's served with roasted potatoes that seemed to me to be underdone. And they, too, seem to have cooled more than they should have.

The place itself has the vibe of a teenaged girl's bedroom décor, circa 1970: pictures from an old Beatles album cover are the main decorative touch, which to me indicates someone who, like me, came of age in the '70s but harked back to the '60s as a Better Time. (And we were right about that, not that it matters now.) The service is very 21st Century, quite good, and the prices are not excessive: call it satisfactory.
THE CURMUDGEON’S RATINGS (explained, more or less, on the Curmudgeon-About-Town blog):

FOOD: 3 chili peppers (out of 5)
SERVICE: 4 chili peppers
AMBIENCE: 3 chili peppers
VALUE: 3 chili peppers

Its a charming cafe in in a great location and the food was awesome. I enjoyed a large western omlet, potatoes, bacon, and coffee. Portion sizes are perfect. The place was clean, service was friendly and overall it was a great dining experience.
Khusbu Singh
This place has amazing bacon!! I had the BAT bacon, avocado, tomatoe sandwich on parmesan bread and loved it. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. The tortilla soup was also very good, it has more of a tomato base vs chicken broth. I can't wait to take my husband. The only thing is that they dont have straws, so if you dont like drinking from a cup take a straw or ask for a To go cup.
Roxy Beaudet
Stopped by Twin Sisters to check out a jazz performance. The duo was great, very lively. The food however, was disappointingly bland. The few pastries we had lacked any real flavor and almost tasted stale, we didn't even finish them.
Davis Guglielmo
My favorite quick meal. Large tortilla soup with cornbread, and a full grilled cheese on parm bread. Best grilled cheese in Alamo heights. The soup is classic. Cheese, chicken, broth, and tortilla chips.
Omar David Land
I love this place. If they would add waffles to the breakfast menu, I'd rate them 4.5/5. The Carne Guisada is as close to perfection as you'll find anywhere.
Derrickflores
This is a very pleasant place to eat and meet friends. The service is good and the food is fresh and healthy. Will come back and try the breakfast menu.

Good food. Customer service is good too. Some times there can be a very short wait but it Is worth it. Delish. I will come back when I'm in the area.

Yummy Yummy In my Tummy☺️ I.... Yummy Yummy In my Tummy☺️
I ordered pancakes when I went to Twin Sisters Bakery and Cafe and they were doughy and delicious. I would definitely go here again.

Great tasting chicken quesadillas! They were the some of the best I've ever tasted! Corn bread was very good too. Portions were a little smaller than I'm used to, but everyone in my table (8 adults who eat out a lot) loved their food. Missing from the menu is beef - owners going for healthy choice options.
Megan Amitrano
Twin Sisters has become a ritual cafe for enjoying local ingredients and old fashion taste on one plate. The whole wheat pancakes are heavenly, the omelettes are fluffy, and the muffins are rich. The cafe has both a diverse breakfast and lunch/dinner menu. The vegetarian options are flavorful, and won't disappoint. After many visits, this cafe never disappoints. Tip: come hungry and prepare to spend a few extra minuets sipping coffee!

Twin Sisters Bakery and Cafe. Twin Sisters was on our radar for breakfast on a very early Saturday morning before grocery shopping. This is a fun little cafe which has been recommended by friends for us to try out. I now know why. The food is great! Good service and atmosphere.

My partner ordered the Migas, which consisted of three scrambled eggs with onions, green & red bell peppers, tortilla chips and cheddar cheese. I ordered the Cowboy Omelette, which was chipped up yellow onions, green & red bell peppers, country ham cubes, and cheddar cheese. Both meals were very good. The coffee was fresh and hot, as well. We also ordered pancakes to share.
KnerdsJ
Good but could be better. The service has been good both times I have been at Twin Sisters. I don't like their low-fat everything but I do love their moist, and flavorful cornbread that comes with the tortilla soup. The tortilla soup could have more substenance something more to it than broth, chicken, tiny bit of tortilla strips, Maybe have a small side of avocado or cheese. Overall, it was tasty.
Miah
Been there 3 times and NEVER had decent food. My husband said it was trash and I totally agree with him. 3 yo can coom better food.

Banana Pancakes. I ended up here after I forgot that the McNay Art Institute is closed on Mondays. This place is about a block North on New Braunfels. I had some whole wheat banana pancakes and they were so good I didn't put any syrup on them other than a schmeer of butter. It went well with the spiced tea.
Service was slow but was friendly. It was quite a nice meal.
Zoe Hanna
If you are a fan of quiche, theirs was the best!!! However, for a bakery, their dessert selection was limited. The pop comes in a can, but they give you a cup of ice. Their wheat rolls were hard and dry. Would eat there again, though!
James
Never trust a skinny chef. This place proves the adage. We have this spot 3 chances due to its convenient location and were disappointed every time. The food is not terrible but its not good either. The best I have eaten here would at best be deemed okay. The service is slow and semi-cordial at best. Don't even bother with breakfast here 25 minute wait to sit and 45 minutes to eat-wouldn't have been worth it if we sat and ate upon arrival.
M.Rossetti
Fresh!. The Best Blueberry Pancakes in Town!
What more does one need?

Descent. This place I have only been to for breakfast, but when I crave breakfast this is one of the places I think of. Love the single banana pancake with a side of potatoes. :-) Great for the day when you just want some fresh breakfast.
Ceatzd
Great service and atmosphere!! Will be coming back to try more of their menu!
Lewis
Worst breakfast ever! Their potatoes are absolutely the worst ever! Yet so easy to make! Add some love, a little heat and some salt and pepper bam! Probably not surviving on breakfast at this establishment!
Richard Salvucci
The cool kids' table in high school. Glacial service. High prices for so-so food. Not a regular? Forget it
The Prima Donna
An old favorite!. We've eaten here for years and still love it! If you dine on a night where the pot roast special is available, try it: lots of fork-tender roast with potatoes and carrots; yum! I also love the quiche and usually order the Caesar salad to go with it; the Caesar dressing is garlicky without the garlic being overhwelming. I also love the sauteed vegetables -- usually carrots, zucchini and much more --served on a mound of brown rice. And the cornbread that accompanies each meal is wonderful! (Ok -- you can choose a roll instead, but why would you?)

Look out for Chuck Norris.. 11:30 on a Saturday Morning. "What can I get you?" asks a little girl with lots of earing's and tattoo's. "Can I get some coffee and miga's?" One of my favorites here. She cocks one eye apologetically at me and goes, "Sorry, we shut breakfast down at 11." Without provocation, she then twists her mouth a little and says, "Ah, hell with it, I'll get 'em to make it for ya. Be right back with that." Typical of the service I've gotten here the few dozen times I've been. Almost always breakfast on the weekend, but I have done lunch here a couple times and once for a weeknight dinner. Consistently fresh, and consistently good. This is one of those menus that I love to study and eat off of. Its like a Hippy commune got bought out by Mel's Diner who hired some guy from a local Taqueria to cook it all and put an out-of-work punk band out front to run it. I love it! Funky & eclectic just doesn't reach into all the corners, but man, it sure gets close.
So, I got my newspaper scattered all over the booth when she brings my plate. "Hey, I bet you'd like a Jalapeño Lemonade with this." You can see the mischievous twinkle in her eye that's saying "Go ahead - I dare you." "Sure, kiddo, I'll try it!", trying to act braver than I was actually feeling. I'm 3 bites into my miga's when she brings it back. Tall wet glass of cool lemonade with a big slice of jalapeño floating on top. I pull the straw out and take a big gulp without hesitation. Pow. Right in the kisser. "Did Chuck Norris just run in here and smack me in the mouth?" She laughs and runs to get some other peoples food. But ya know what - it was perfect with those miga's.
Dine09r
Been a regular here for 10 years. Service usually good depending on who you get and how long they've been there. I love the sisters but I will say the food is on the expensive side for what you get and usually lacks adequate seasoning for my taste buds but it's probably better for my hypertension. It is one of THE places to eat in 09 to see your friends.
Happymama
Why oh Why do we keep going back??. It could be the choice of vegan dishes, but every time we go we are all sorely disappointed with the service. The wait staff and co-owner are very RUDE!! No smile!! No courtesy!! We always feel like we are bothering our waiter when we have to ASK for more coffee or tea. This place is cute, but whatever happened to friendly wait staff and courteous service!! We will not return and ALWAYS choose Madhatters where the food is awesome and their owner and staff are friendly!!! Shame on you Twin Sisters...your location and "funky" appeal can only get you so far!!! You've lost 3 of us and we WILL be telling all of our friends!!!

Still a favorite. Where to start... Twin Sisters has always been something to look forward to when eating out with the family. Those who work in the restaurant are more than hospitable and will allow you to relax and sit a while at the table without any hover or rush to leave. For years I simply ordered the chicken tortilla soup, a small ceaser salad and cornbread, however, lately I have tried other things on the menu.

One of their specials, a stir fry with tofu and spinach, is absolutely delicious! The pot roast, turkey burger, breakfast tacos and quesadilla's have become some of the favorite menu options as well.

Recommendation: Try the raspberry iced tea! Yumm

The Owner. Ah, where to begin. Over the years we have sworn this place off our list due to the service/sorry attitude. We eventually return due to convenient location. The past year was actually pretty good (service and food) and one of the owners has been nice, etc. However, that all changed when the "other" twinsister was working the register at lunchtime. The heavier one who NEVER smiles. Without belaboring the incident, suffice it to say she was incredibly rude/angry appearing. I mean so rude one should never give this place any business whatsoever. Two other people witnessed this. I cannot understand how they are in business with this character as a co-owner.
KS
Great local eatery. I always get fast and friendly service from pat and joe @ twin sisters. the portions are generous and yes, it is a health conscious place, so the salads are abundant! great for a hot summer day. i adore the fact that they embrace employees who are alternative and unique. i also think is it cool that they have fun specials..for example: fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches for elvis's birthday? jalapeno lemonade? north african tagine stew? that sort of creativity and bravery is something to be treasured in san antonio because it is, sadly, scarce here in town. maybe too many people are running to heb for a safe option rather than getting out there, supporting local restaurants and being adventurous. have some fun!

Definitely... for Horrible Serive and Poor Tasting Food. I recently visited Twin Sister's at Alamo Heights and must say I was extremely disappointed. I have no idea how individuals rave about the food when it is some of the worse I've tasted. People who gave this place high scores either lack taste buds or have no concept of good food.

Rather than having spent $25 for two, I should have driven to HEB and bought groceries to make the sandwich I ordered. Word of advice for the restaurant owner: You may re-consider the option of adding extra meat to your sandwiches and when someone orders mustard, it should have some. Also, if you advertise as a Bakery, you may want to consider using better bread on your sandwiches. Bread that has taste and texture are essential for a good sandwich.

Let me begin by saying their coffee mugs were dirty. I ordered a cup of coffee and the coffee mug had lipstick on it. The rationale thing was to send it back. I thought for sure they would bring me a clean one. I was WRONG so I sent the coffee back and said forget it. Keep your coffee, I"ll drink tea. I'm sure the mug was dirty, but they were smart to bring me the raspberry tea in a red glass. You best believe I would have sent it back had it been dirty. I'm no germa phobe, but a dirty glass does not help the restaurant experience.

Then the waitress. We had been sitting fifteen minutes when the waitress decided to take our order. I was very disappointed with the sandwich. I ordered a turkey sandwich and BLAND was the first word that immediately came to mind. It had no taste and two small pieces of turkey. Definitely not worth the money. The cream of jalapeno, I would advise to not order. It lacked in taste and the jalapeno tasted pickled, not fresh. Did I mention the corn bread? This was awful. You would think a bakery would know how to add flavor to something as simple as cornbread. Not this place.

The service is poor and the waitress made us feel like she intentionally ignored us. No one should have to sit and wait fifteen minutes before the waitiress finally decides to appear. I understand the restaurant business can be busy, but customers come frist.

My word of advice, is STAY AWAY. Instead save your money and go to HEB and purchase deli meat like Boars' Head and make your own sandwich. Save your time, money, and taste buds.
George Wommack
Healthy doesn't have to be bland. Twin Sisters is a very popular restaurant among the Alamo Heights women looking for a health lunch spot. Unfortunately, being the husband of one of these women, I sometimes get dragged along. Overall the food is bland which I believe to be a direct result of the restaurant sparing some vital ingredients which make food more enjoyable in an effort to make it more healthy. If you're not into health food get the tortilla soup with a chicken salad sandwich. The soup is actually really good, and the chicken salad sandwich has at least a little flavor.
Dangic
Good if you live in the area. Visited the place and it is really a good spot to relax for a while if you have the time, (took off for the week). Went for breakfast, decent food, great staff.
Not good enough to make me go out of my way for breakfast like Magnolia Pancake house does (45 minute drive...worth every mile). But would recommend if you happen to be in the area.

From Twitter: Dinner was a delicious large salad and half a grilled cheese on whole wheat. Lots of whole grain options!
