Started of with a variety of appetizers to sample the cuisine as well as some sushi and tempura. All was great value for the price and the Tempura shrimp blew us away for how light and good it was. We will be back as a regular place to go to, even if it is over 15 miles from us.

Best Sushi in Town! My wife and I stumbled upon this hidden gem right in our own back yard. Ok service but very good food especially the Dragon rolls and grilled shrimp.
First time here, I really like this place. I started off with the mushroom soup, to die for! I'm ordering one for the road. Oh, my, my, this is a game changer for me. I can't remember the last time sushi smelled so Delicious, Fresh, Outstanding. Why have I never been here? It's a quiet Friday night a little surprised it's not as busy as other near by restaurants. I can't wait t come back. 5**** tonight.
The waiters at Sushishima were extremely polite and helpful. They were accustomed to orders from celiacs and had many choices of gluten-free meals. Also, they were happy to alter my family's and mine's dishes. I had the Grilled Salmon which was seasoned exactly the way I like. It came with a perfectly portioned rice cake and some vegetables. It was a plus that they had gluten-free soy sauce available. My only complaint was the decor, which was not very authentic for a Japanese restaurant. And, the booth I was sitting at had a rip in it's fabric.
This place is by far the ABSOLUTE BEST IN TOWN. The sushi is way above average and we've tried them all. If you ask any of the chefs to make you thier choice, be ready to be blown away..........but, if you just order the Koni salad and the baked salmon off the appetizer menu then you have yourself a meal that I would put against any 5 star resturaunt anywhere. Also, the chicken, beef or shrimp teriyaki is amazing! The noodles are full of flavor and aren't like any you've ever tried. Hope this helps someone have a awesome meal! Oh, try the rock n roll!
YES YES YES ! This was out first visit and we were thoroughly satisfied!! The Sushishima roll was amazing, in fact every roll we had was truly delicious with great textures and flavors, each one completely unique. Our waitress Klarissa was very personable and funny. Excellent meal: Fatty Tuna flown in from Japan. Melt in your mouth. Expensive for San Antonio but it's the real deal. Amazing tempura: we tried shrimp, scallops and vegetables. Tempura broccoli! Mom approved! Plus a Paradise Roll, which is subjective but GOOD. Solid wine list. Friendly waitstaff. Chef / Owner has direct connection to Japan. Try it!
We love it!. Love, love, love this restaurant! Great presentation, amazing food. My husband (who's usually sushi averse) actually requests to go here. It's a great family place, the owner is always there and makes you feel welcome.
The only downside is that it's tucked away, and many might miss it. Great lunch menu, and from 3-6, everything is half off menu prices.
The happy hour special makes it really affordable. I thought the sushi was tasty and the server was really polite and helpful. The sushi bar got a little backed up because happy hour was busy, but the server kept checking on us and giving us updates, which I appreciated. The sushi was fresh and worth the wait. I'll be back.
Their sushi is fresh and made very well. I got the crazy couple roll and their seaweed salad. Both were just delicious. My husband got the beef hibachi dinner and he was in heaven! We went during happy hour and everything was half off!! Even their sushi, which is really fresh! Idk how long that deal will last, but that is an AWESOME deal!! We love this plc.
I had a great time here with my wife, HAPPY HOUR IS THE BEST! loved our waitress, she was amazing, food quality 10/10. Will definitely comeback more often
Janie was the best, very attentive and sweet. The food was incredible! The menu is extensive, and everything we ordered was just phenomenal. We had a large party, and the drinks were so good, the appetizers were bomb, and the service was impeccable... 10 billion stars! All of the stars!

Can be the upper end sushi...much more attention to prep and presentation than most...kings platter is " top " end but disappointed getting surf clam and prepackaged squid.. would definitly return
This was an amazing experience. We made reservations and visited this restaurant on a spur of the moment decision and it was incredible. They are doing the most to make sure everyone stays socially distanced and safe, we had zero wait time with our reservations. Everyone on the staff was super friendly and so nice. The servers were extremely helpful and informative when asked for opinions or preferences of their menu items. We loved everything we were served here, from the appetizers to the mackeral & tuna to the boat full of sushi. It was a very nice, calm, and peaceful environment to enjoy a phenomenal meal. We will definitely make this a new regular place for date nights!
So this was my second time coming to the 1604 location and i invited my family to come out and try it. It was really good. I did not catch the guy that was helping us and he recommended some good stuff such as the Hibachi roll and the Valentine roll along with The Hibachi vegetable dish which my cousin had and she said it was really good. We also tried the mushroom soup which is really good. Love the broth. I had the hibachi roll and the Valentine roll which had raw sushi on them both.( tuna, salmon& escolar fish) and he came out with this sauce which had soy sauce, ponzu, lemon juice and very thin slices of jalapenos. It was very good and not to spicy. We will be back and plus its 20% off between 3pm & 6pm. Good service and the food is fresh and comes out looking amazing. I forgot to take the picture of the soup.
My first experience is quite delightful , the customer service was amazing; very friendly and very helpful staff. The food was delicious and we will be coming again! 10/10 Recommended.
Oh my god. This is my new go to for sushi. They got happy hour 3-6 for rolls an some other items. When we went it was buy 2 rolls get the third free. Fast service even though the were busy an the service was awesome. Still kinda new to the whole sushi thing but the way our server Steve explained everything I kinda pigged out as you can see and I tried some items I wouldn't have before. Everything was delicious. Flavor wasn't all, the textures were wonderful. Been to a couple of other sushi places in SA, not going to slam them, Sushishima is top notch on flavor, presentation, and price. I live less than 10 miles away and the deliver. WOOT!!!!!!!
Wow! This place is such an amazing spot for dinner. So yummy! From the sake to the sushi. The service is amazing, ask for Trey, he’s one of the best - and we’ve been here many many times.
