Review Nakamura Sushi And Korean - San Angelo

Cassandra Blessing
Hands down, the best sushi spot in San Angelo. The outward appearance of the restaurant doesn't make you thing think "excellent sushi" but don't let that throw you. The miso soup is my favorite starter and I cannot say enough good things about the staff. I ordered a plate so I could try a few different rolls this time. At first, I was disappointed to see the Veggie roll but THAT was amazing too! Anytime friends and family come to town, I bring them here. It's a great place to have a conversation and make good memories.

Authentic Korean food. ALWAYS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Great portion sizes, friendly staff, and good prices. It's becoming my go-to comfort food.

*Update: new menu, the price is a lot higher than before. I'm saddd. We have Japchae box, Bulgogi box this time and Sunset roll this time. Actually my bulgogi is not good like usually, but i still like it. I do appreciate more if the waiters and waitresses would remember what we order. This is the third time they miss my order. Anyway, this is still my favorite restaurant 💓

I just moved here and am a sushi fanatic and this place didn’t disappoint. Don’t let the old “sushi” sign stop you from coming in! The staff was phenomenal, the sushi was fresh and delicious, and their Korean food is to DIE FOR! Run, don’t walk. I’m serious.

I went here around 6pm with my girlfriend and once we walked in nobody greeted us for about 5 minutes despite there being wait staff available doing nothing. After sitting down for 10 minutes we were finally asked what we wanted to drink and we decided to order right there because it would have been a while before we got the chance again to order. A woman at a table in front of us was there with 3 children and was trying to get a waiters attention for her check for 30 minutes. During those 30 minutes we were waiting on our miso soup which never came because the waiter simply forgot. Our food came after 45 minutes (understandable for a sushi restaurant) and was absolutely amazing. It is a disservice to the chef for the restaurant to have such horrible waiters. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

The food was the best. Friendly waitress. Have eaten at several Korean restaurants with in 150 miles from our home, by far the best. Even when paying out the waitress noticed my US ARMY wallet and asked me if I was a veteran. She didn't have to ask but she did. 10% off. Once again great place great food. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT.....

Don’t miss this little place! Ate here for supper 10/16/20. It was busy. Lots of take out orders being picked up by eager diners. Small dining room. Friendly staff and quick service. Everything was delicious. Conveniently located at the end of a busy strip mall. Close to shopping and hotels. Highly recommend.

Nice place. Good prices on everything. Dinner “box” is a real value. Lots of choices in both Japanese and Korean cuisine. See pic for beef bulgogi box. Friendly staff as well.

I strongly believe this is one of the best places to get sushi in west Texas! I come here at least once a week. For this small little town it is a hidden gem. Also, their Korean food is on point. I have missed Korean food ever since I moved back from Korea, and this place hits the spot every time. Mr. Kim( the owner ) is super charismatic and always makes me feel welcomed when I come in. The experience from the moment you walk through the door is amazing with their decorations and kpop playing. It is really one of a kind in this town. The staff is also very friendly ( Especially the waitress Genie!) and professional, they never fail to provide prompt and good service. If you have any questions about the food and sushi they are experts at it. I recommend any of the Bulgolgi bowls and if you like extra spicy just ask them to add chili peppers! As for the sushi there so many too choose from, and there all delicious just take your pick! The food always comes out promptly, and I have never had a problem with the food except for one mistake on my order, which they fixed very quickly and were very professional about it. Which is understandable, they are small restaurant with a high volume of people coming in everyday! The price for the food is very reasonable and the quality of the food is top notch. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. Absolutely one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in San Angelo!

I think Kozy Kitchen is better. The bulgogi bento at Kozy Kitchen is more expensive but I think it's worth it - better quality sauce with great flavor, better cuts of beef. Bulgogi at Nakamura's was bland - some pieces of meat not edible, not a good coating of sauce on the beef and it tastes bland. I initially ordered the chicken teriyaki bento but the chicken was not good (cooked with some kind of cabbage mixture? Not enough teriyaki sauce, very bland). Salad in the bento is not good just some iceburg lettuce. You can't substitute California roll for anything (I don't eat California roll, would rather get tuna or salmon roll, or inari). Just seems very rigid, no substitutions, no concern that the customer didn't like the chicken, etc.

Best Sushi I've ever had. Top notch place. Mr Kim and Emanuel know what their doing behind the sushi bar. The food from the kitchen is great as well.

Giving one star because the food is good. Service is beyond awful. No refills, incorrect food then the owner came out and glared at us for more than 5 minutes like it was our fault.
Monica Chapa
Had sushi and everything was delicious. We eat sushi, a lot and this was really some of the best we've had in a while.
Angela Middlebrooks
Love love this place! Been going there regularly for four years. Couldn't recommend it more!
Robyn Banks Runge
The food was excellent....when we were FINALLY served. The waiters were horrible! They never refilled our tea without us asking them to do so. I will never go back! People go to restaurants during their lunch hour...not their lunch two hours! Ridiculous!

Never had a Poke Bowl before, it was very, very good! Will be back!

Everything is good there! I'm in sushi heaven!!! My brother in law & sister drive in from Odessa just to eat here!

I keep coming back, today they went all and beyond to offer me an option due to a food allergy risk, they were so diligent and considerate about it. Kudos to them. As a Chef I know how important this subject is. I will be back! ☆☆☆☆☆

Service is horrible. Will not be back any time soon.

We love the food and the people there! Kids under 3 also eat free and they offer military discount so we go there at least once a month. :)

My place for Korean food and Mr. Kim is awesome!!!

They have delicious bulgogoi. The sushi is really good too.

Had Nakamura for the first time tonight. Food was really good but the hostess/togocashier/waitress could have been better. Placed a to go order tonight, after I paid they said it would be a 35 minute wait. I was ok with that, but they did not give me a receipt or ask for my name. When I asked about how I was suppose to pick up my order without giving my name, the hostess proceeded to tell me that "This was the wrong time to ask that question, they were to busy." She said no two orders were alike so they could figure it out. Guess what....When I was able to pick up my order, she gave me one that wasn't mine. Two of the items that were ordered were correct but the third wasn't. Thankfully my order had not been picked up yet, so it was just a matter of finding mine.
Lynne Mason Yarbrough
They only have beer (excluding Corona-the only gluten free beer), wine, and sake for their bar selections. They don’t have sweet tea either, which is an insult to the South. We didn’t get to the food portion because we left after struggling to order a beverage.

My boss ordered sushi for us a few weeks ago. Every single order was wrong. I spent 45 minutes on the phone because the girl who answered the phone thought it would be cute to laugh at me. They ended up giving me a credit for future orders.

Tonight, I ordered a spider roll with no avocado and extra eel sauce. I get home, open the box, and see that I have a spider roll with no avocado and no eel sauce.

I call the store again and Mr. Kim tells me he'll make the order himself. I check it before I leave, and there is so much avocado on this roll, it's unreal. Then, on my way to the car, Mr. Kim decides to come outside and try to confront me. I don't have time for that BS. Either make the food the way it was ordered or close up shop. I didn't order it without avocado because I don't like it, I ordered it without avocado because I'm allergic to avocado and didn't have an epipen on me.

Reading is not that hard. If you can't read the order that was placed, then you have no business making things that people put into their body.

Don't waste your time. I was super excited to get some good sushi until I got there. The food was okay and the waitress was rude. Tip to the wise, you should never make the customer feel stupid. Also, they closed down while we were still eating. Not professional. There are way better places

Food good, service not so much.. Had Nakamura's for the first time tonight. It was pretty busy, so my friend and I ordered take out. We ordered and paid then were told it would be a 35 minute wait for our food. I was ok with this, because they were so busy. The first problem came when the person that took our order did not get our name nor did he give us a receipt. He just moved onto the next person. I decided to ask the hostess/waitress how we were suppose to get our food when it was ready if we were not asked for our name. She proceeded to tell me that "This was the wrong time to ask that question, they were to busy." She then told me that they never had the same order so it would not be hard to for me to get mine. I decided to just go with it because she was so not helpful. Since it is such a small restaurant I decided to wait outside the 35 minutes. When the 35 minutes were up we went back in, there was someone new at the register. When we said we had a to go order, guess what the first thing she asked was.....Whose name was it under? When we told her that we were not asked our name she got a frustrated look on her face. The hostess that did not have time for my questions found our "order" for us and we went outside. My friend decided to check our order just to be on the safe side.....2 out of the 3 items were correct! So we did not have our order! We took it immediately back inside and told them. The lady at the register apologized and found our order. So like the title says the food was good, the service not so much. My suggestion....If you eat there call your order in ahead of time and make sure you give your name!

Real Asian Food - Not From A Chain Or Buffet. Nakamura's is hands down the best Asian restaurant in San Angelo. Sushi made to order along with excellent Korean food that always reminds me of my time in Korea years ago. The bulgogi is really good and many of the sides are great compliments to some of the main courses. If you want stir-fried stuff sitting in a pan all day, go to one of the buffets in town, but if you want great food cooked to order, Nakamura is the place!

I will never go back!!!. I had eaten at Nakamurs's many times before this incident. I came in at lunch time, and sat at the bar. I ordered my meal and appetizer as soon as the waiter came to ask me what I wanted. I waited for almost 30 mins and there were not very many people still there. I asked the waiter how much longer it would be for my sushi she replied let me find out. I watched as the women who makes sushi say to the water I'm off ask him in reference to the man who makes sushi. He was sitting at another table talking to some friends that were eating there, and told the waiters to tell me it would be ready in 5 mins, 10 mins later I told the waiter to give me my check that i was no longer waiting, while the man who was suppose to make my sushi was still sitting at the table with his friends talking. I was very upset, i have never had bad service in Nakamurs till this day, and what was sad is it was the owner who was disrespectful to me. I payed for my food and told the waiter i was very upset that I was treated like this. I am pretty upset about this cause they do have great food, but you should never treat a customer like this...

Diamond in the rough. This place has great sushi. Not much from the outside and not much as far as decor on the inside but I can over look that for the sushi. Definitely try the hungry man roll!

Haven't had decent sushi since I moved to Texas until I found this place. Great rolls and sashimi. I come here every time I'm in San Angelo

Korean Food. I like Sushi but I have to order Korean food every time I go. If I were to compare it to other Korean restaurants in other towns, it falls short. Since this is the only place to get Korean food in San Angelo I think it's great. I feel fortunate to be able to get it here. The KimChi is hit or miss. I have yet to take my husband there because I know that he will not get enough to eat. I love eating it for lunch because I can get my Korean fix. The pork bulgogi is really good. The bibimbop is also very good. It's a quaint and small place that is a great ethnic option in a town full of Mexican restaurants.

Best Sushi in Town. I can't help but love this place. The atmosphere is small and cozy. I love this, especially to be located in a place like San Angelo. I also love the selection of rolls and cuisine. I have yet to order something I didn't like. There is sometimes a wait for a table, but I recommend sticking around. Wonderfully seasoned, wonderfully priced!

San Angelo Sushi?!?. Yes, Nakamura has the best sushi in San Angelo. It's actually really good. Surprisingly fresh and well put together even though this is West Texas. The Korean food is way above average. I feel this is due to the fresh ingredients. I lived in Korea for 3 years, and the Dol Sot Bibimbap here rivaled the best I had in Korea. MIND BLOWING. Also, the Man doo kuk is amazing. If you like or even have a rogue interest in sushi or Korean food, you can't go wrong with Nakamura!
Leigh
Pretty Good!. Excellent sushi and service. Crazy desserts and the rice dishes look amazing thought i have not had one

Addicted. I've eaten at Nakamura's three times, and I can't wait for #4. The beef bolgogi and chicken teriyaki are phenomenal. I didn't think I liked sushi, but whatever comes with a box meal (California roll?) is great. I'd recommend this to anyone that has a hankering for Asian food. I'll be eating the chicken teriyaki box for my birthday this year.

Best in town!. When this place first opened, I stopped going to my regular sushi spot of China Garden, they deliver such a fantastic product, sooooo many options of sushi rolls, friendly staff, and their addition of Korean bbq is amazing!!! A must go for all sushi lovers and place to take your out of town guests for an authentic experience. and you must include a side salad, that dressing...mmm!

Good sushi for sa!. Great food, price a little steep. the waiter gave us very individualized attention, but the restaurant was almost completely empty.

Amazing People with Amazing Food to match. The Korean food here is amazing and is of course the best in San Angelo, TX by far. The sushi is amazing as well, you pretty much can get whatever you want the way you want it as well. I recommend the Pork Bulgogi and Kiss of Fire Roll if you like spicy eats. The owner Mr. Kim is great, he will always greet you with a smile and make sure everything is to your satisfaction. And the other Sushi Chef Russel is amazing at making sushi into Art Pieces. My advice- GO TRY THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU LOVE FOOD.**
(REF: has tried food all around the world)

Terrible and possibly dangerous!. Went to Nakamura today as an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. As I write this, my girlfriend is in the bathroom for the fourth time in the past half hour.
She had a rainbow roll and a Philadelphia roll, and I had an unpronounceable Korean pork dish. My girlfriend said the first roll was terrible and the second was mediocre. Mine was flavorless and the pork was mainly fat. Also, the lettuce in the salad mine came with was that kind of half wilted shredded lettuce you'd find on a burger at a bad fast food place.
The honey fried banana we got for dessert was ok but the meal all together wasn't something I'd feed to even my dog. And at 40 dollars, I feel indescribably ripped off.
I officially hate this place with every ounce of my being and now I have to go tend to my girlfriend. She's screaming from the toilet.

Great Sashimi!!!. Only place in town I will eat Sushi, Fresh(for west texas)!!!

Great Job Mr. Kim!!!

Great Bulgogi. Recently went there while visiting San Angelo, wish I had found it earlier in the trip. I can only speak for the Korean food, bulgogi in particular and the service. I had the chicken bulgogi box and my co-worker had the beef. We both liked it a lot. The tempura veggies, spring rolls and salad we also very good. The service was quick and friendly, Mr. Kim was nice and thanked everyone personally as they left. Very reasonable prices and enough to satisfy a good appetite.

Very good sushi but kimbop was over priced. Needs to be larger to accommodate more customers, still best sushi in town and bolgogi is great.
HungryPanda
Not bad at all! I'm vegan and Mr. Kim was very considerate and made accommodations for me.

Went here for birthday really looking for a nice evening out with good sushi. We were extremely disappointed in the quality of the food and the service was bad. Group of 6 and the food was served to each of us at different time over about 20 minutes.
Ren
Great place! The chicken bulgogi is my favorite. Food quality is great. The portions are just right and don't leave me feeling guilty. My husband loves their sushi (im not really a sushi eater) Mr Kim is always so nice and courteous, he greets and thanks each customer
Cortnie
...went for dinner with friends...the food was GREAT...service, eh, not so much...
Scott
Great hole in the wall!. Well worth a visit.

Overall good- some rip offs. I think Nakamura has the best sushi in town. But I was disappointed that they are not entirely allergy friendly. I'm allergic to avocado, and while they will hold it if I order a roll they won't if I order a box meal that comes with a California roll. They also charge you for refills without letting you know first. They're the only sit down restaurant I've been to in town that does that. Also, don't buy a bottle of Fuki plum wine from them. They sell if for $30 a bottle, but you can literally go across the street to HEB and buy it for $10. Way too much markup.

Rip off for some.. I went there with two other friends. A friend and I ordered the Bi Bim Bop, which we had before. Really good if just a bit pricey. However, my friend ordered Sweet & Sour Shrimp for 6.99. It was a really bad deal. He did not expect the simple dish that came. If pictures were on the menu, maybe he would have known that it was only 4 pieces of regular-sized breaded shrimp accompanied by a small ramekin of sweet and sour sauce and a pile of seasoned steamed rice. I have to say it really was a rip-off, and I was seriously disappointed for my friend. It was discouraging enough that I will not come back to eat Bi Bim Bop for long time.

Best Place In Town!. I was fortunate enough to find this place early during my time in San Angelo. I went multiple times a week it was so good. The Bulgogi is delicious and the sushi is top notch. Mr. Kim runs a good place. Would def recommend.
Phillip D
Loved Korean food!. I tried the Bullgobi made with chicken. I got the "box" with rice, tempura veggies and a salad. It was spicy and good. I had to try the kimchi. It satisfied my adventurous palate!
Jeff
Good sushi and excellent bulgogi. Kimpob is a little over priced though
Strphen
The sushi was good quality but very small portions I would have to spend 40-60 dollars to be satisfied fried rice was good vegetables a bit undercover they also use tap water. I prefer shogun for sushi. Oh also was there for 30 minutes didn't get a single refill.
The Roving Van Gelders
We went for sushi, ordered rolls and sushi. The rolls were all very good but not the sushi. Great service
Soupy
So / so. The rolls were delicious. We tried 4 different ones and each was better than the next. I would go back for the rolls anytime. BUT, I feel what really makes a sushi restaurant is the fish. I tried each kind of sashimi and none were good. They were chewy and had lots of water from when they were frozen. Bummer on the fish by itself but YUMMY rolls.

Favorite restaurant in town, best sushi and atmosphere, hands down. I haven't had anything on the menu that I didn't like :p

Korean Cuisine. Went here tonight after I had a hankering for some Korean food.

The restaurant is the size of your typical sushi-bar that one would find in a strip-mall, complete with a small bar (8 seats or so) as well as a few tables for small groups.

The menu contains a good number of varying sushi rolls, to include items that are veggie-friendly. Sorry, I went straight to the Korean!

The Korean menu was limited, but included some of the staples that one could expect after having been in Korea. Bulgogi, Bi Bim Bap, Jap Jae, Kal-bi, and a Mandoo dish caught my eye. I was a little distraught not to see any Cha-Jang Myun but to be honest, I have yet to see that on any menu in the states.

Anyway, I ordered the DolSot BiBimBap (sorry if I butchered the name), which is Bi Bim Bap in the stone bowl (so it continuously cooks while you eat it). It was delicious, and the price I paid ($9) was just right with the portion. I did not leave hungry; in fact I felt guilty eating the entire thing because I was stuffed - I think I left two bites until the waitress playfully scolded me for not finishing :)

The staff was friendly (obviously), the prices were very reasonable, and the food was delicious.

Complimentary kim-chi would be nice, and it's something that I miss from a typical Korean restaurant, but I also realize that Nakamura's is more of a sushi place. I forgive them :)

If you are in San Angelo and want some Korean food, I would definitely recommend this place.
Steve Cale
Best Sushi in Town!. Great food, especially the Korean menu. Sushi is some of the best I've had (and I've lived in both Japan and Korea). Wait staff and service are great. Try the nigiri sushi and the bibimpap. I'm getting hungry writing this.
NICK A.
Eggrolls excellent
Vicki
Lunch boxes!. Have enjoyed both sushi and korean food here. decent prices and friendly waitstaff.
Shantae
Go Nakamura!. They have really good Sushi rolls, and GREAT specials! HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS are AWESOME!!! Korean food is awesome, but what I like even more is they have home made Kimchi.
Timothy Pham
The sushi here is decent but what I enjoy more here is the authentic Korean food. For a small town like San Angelo they make it pretty well.

Nice, clean, friendly environment with excellent classics as well as original sushi rolls. Even Got a free sample of some pretty tasty rice saki...one of my faves...
