Review Hong Kong Tea House & Restaurant - Salt Lake City

It was really delicious food! A lot of reviews talk about the surrounding area, I would be cautious of walking but there is nothing sketchy about the inside. Staff are super lovely and hospitable and I had a fantastic time. If I ever return to Utah, I would come here again.

Discovered this local Hong Kong styled dim sum restaurant today and decided to give it a try. The food came out really quick, and the taste was great. If you’re wanting some authentic dim sum, this is the place, not to mention their prices are affordable!

Easily some of the best dim sum I've had, and some of the best Chinese food in Utah! We visited for lunch on a Saturday in the early afternoon. This restaurant is in a really sketchy spot, with a huge homeless presence around. Be mindful of where you park and don't cross the street until the block the restaurant is on. The restaurant is simply appointed and cozy. We were seated immediately and the restaurant was about half full. The dim sum menu is served until 3PM. They have a wide variety of options across several price ranges. You mark off the dim sum dishes you want on a paper which they bring back to the kitchen. Service was quick but it took a while for food to come out. Once it started to come out, it was consistently served. We also ordered a red bean moon cake which a server brought around the restaurant to sell. I wish I had known it was $10 in advance but it was incredible. The tea was good as well. The prices are fair. Servers are authentic so don't expect gushing kindness. I'll let the photos do the talking for the dim sum. Everything was very authentic and amazing. The beef noodle roll was probably my favorite.

Great food. The dim sum is excellent with a lot of great options. Tons of good tea options as well. Good luck finding somewhere to park. They don't have a parking lot and there are just a couple spots on the street.

This is a pretty good establishment for dim sum! We were in the area and decided to try this out. We ordered Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, pork dumplings, and some crispy noodles. They were all pretty good and I would definitely come back for the food as well as the service! The food is pretty authentic as far as dim sum goes!

Excellent service! Delicious food. My friends loved their house green tea, and I got the boba, which was like a strawberry smoothie. The only issue is trying to find parking.

What can I say, besides that I love this place, and always have! I've been coming here for the better part of 2 decades, and they are still the best dim sum in the valley. The regular menu items are consistently good, and the ever changing specials are always fantastic! Not to mention, the family/ staff who own and run this gem are so kind and friendly. Despite all of the growth around this part of the city, Hong Kong Tea House still stands and remains a jewel in our cities food scene.

Food was great. There was no soft music or anything so you can hear a pin drop while eating. The service was odd.. We were seated and ordered a good 10-15 minutes before 2 other tables (one of which seemed to be regulars), and both of them got their food before we did (and we noticed the table of regulars ordered much of the same food..). So while the service wasn't bad by any means it did feel a little awkward. Would still recommend the dim sum menu.

This is my latest the most favorite restaurant!! Already went there 3 times in last 7 days :P Absolutely love their dim sums! Served every day till 3 pm (closed on Monday). I was little overwhelmed by the dim sum menu on the first day as they have s-o many options to pick from, but that is what I’m really enjoying now...trying out different dim sums every time! We also tried few dishes from their regular menu, everything was fresh and very tasty! However, I would suggest not to order the Mongolian beef here as it’s mostly onion...very few beef slices. The restaurant is clean, great service & staff are friendly (most of the time ;p ). If you are in the mood for decently priced authentic Chinese food...check out this place.

Got a fried and a steamed dim sum platter and a Tsing Tao before seeing Guns N Roses. The platters were awesome, and I will come back for dim sum when I'm back in town for sure. The texture of the steamed shrimp and scallop dumplings is perfect.* Also got the dessert buns with sweet egg yolk, delicious...

My first time in this place was a good experience. I met a friend here and talked some business. The staff was very patient with the time that we were in the restaurant. We were there around 4:00 so we just ordered a couple of appetizers and some tea. They recommended their special house tea. I think that was a good suggestion the tea was nice. I had hope to try the dim sum but we were too late. I did not know that dim sum is available only until 3:00. So my wife and I went on Saturday and specifically for the intent to eat dim sum. I had spent some time in the past in Hong Kong, the dim sum here is just like I remember from Hong Kong. I would highly recommend going before 3:00 and getting dim sum from this place. They are not open on Monday so know that up front. I would also recommend getting the house special tea to go with your dim sum. When I was there with my friend he had the chow mein and he really liked it I tasted it as well and it was good. I ordered salted fish and chicken fried rice it was nice as well. If you don't know what salted fish is, you might want to stay away or have someone explain to you what this is. It is an unusual taste. But I like it and I would recommend it to those who have a familiarity with salted fish. My wife and I are already talking about going back and trying more of the dim sum menu. Overall a great experience. The rest rooms were clean as was the restaurant itself.

We had a very pleasant experience here for lunch. The server was very helpful and provided recommendations as it was our first time in. We really enjoyed trying a variety of dishes! Highly recommend this place.

Hong Kong Tea House was very interesting. The food was good. I went with my Sister and Brother in law. I believe it is helpful that I was with them since my Brother in law is from Hong Kong and I believe this helped in the ordering process. I can't say I heard any English spoken from the restaurant staff, although I would think they must speak some. We had various dim sum served during Yam Cha on Saturday. The food was tasty and prepared fresh. The parking is minimal, so much so, that there is a sign in the window saying you can get parking information inside. I will try it again in the future and give you an update when I do. Until then give it a try and see what you think.

First time going and all I gotta say is GO! The food was amazing each dish had flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was my favorite. The staff was nice and the food didn’t take long to arrive at our table. Definitely a place I recommend excited to come back.

Great place. I am from Hong Kong and I approve this place. Parking kinda sucks but the food is great! Good place to try dim sum for those who has never had them before! I brought my American co-workers there and they liked everything, both dim sum and their different lunch options.

I'm worried about this place! 1st time we've been here since we moved away 10 years ago. Still the best Chinese food in Utah. The dishes, preparation, flavors, aromas, makes my wife and I feel like we'll walk outside and the fog will be pouring down Grant Street. Family from San Francisco owns it. Opened 16 years ago in anticipation of the 2002 Olympics. Used to be crowded every evening, now, because of the neighborhood, their business has fallen off. Utahns, get over there and eat! Support this place! You won't find Chinese food this good between here and San Francisco. Now, I must warn you, it is not expensive. But, don't let that Utah attitude of expensive = good food influence your decision. This is not the Mandarin, just like the Golden Gate is not the Antelope Island Causeway. Oh, and don't worry, nobody offered to serve us tea.

We opened our office next door and were told this place has great food and is really a hidden gem. The first week we were in our new office we ate at all sorts of other restaurants in the area. Yesterday I didn't have much time so went next door to the Hong Kong Tea House and ordered take out. 20 minutes later the food was done. My wife/business partner and I sat at our conference table and ate the food. I had General Tso's and it was so tender it was crazy! It had larger pieces than I have ever had which is nice because it means more meat and less breading. The breading was just right. The sauce was on point too. Sara had Sesame Chicken and it was a little different. It was not breaded like it typically is served, and it is cut into wide but thin strips. The sauce was great (I swiped a piece of hers "for science"). The chicken wasn't as tender as the General Tso's, but was still great.

At first I was a little timid of the location, but midway through the meal I realized the location and local rabble-rousers were merely distractions to keep people away from this truly hidden gem. Fantastic. Just great. House fried rice was the best I've ever had

We just tried this place based on the good reviews on Yelp. I honestly think it qualifies as the best Chinese food restaurant in the SLC area. We started out with the dim sum appetizer, which was super good, then shared Kung Pao chicken, beef with tofu and an order of pork fried rice. It was the perfect amount of food with a little bit of left overs. The veggies in the Kung Pao were crispy instead of over cooked and soggy and it wasn't too saucy. The BBQ pork in the pork fried rice was big meaty bites instead of the typical small cubes of ham. I'm not a tofu fan, but even it was good and the beef was tender. We'll be back :)

Hong Kong Tea House has an inviting intimate feel. The aroma of fresh authentic food draws you into a nicely furnished dining room. The Peking Duck was perfectly prepared and presented promptly at our table.

Excellent authentic Dim Sum and Chinese cuisine. Service is second to none. Dim sum and the seasonal Moon cakes are better than Chinatown in San Francisco.

Nothing like fresh, made to order dim sum. I would definitely recommend.
