Review Market Street Grill & Oyster Bar - Salt Lake City

We enjoyed a nice dinner date here. See photos for our food and dessert. I just love crème brûlée so we had to get that. We had great service! Our waiter was attentive filled our water and took our finished plates in a timely manner. We enjoyed having Liam as our waiter!

Came here with a party of 10. Although we were a large party they were able to seat us right away. It was a Tuesday night so not much happening anyway. One doesn't know what to expect when getting oysters in a mountain town but surprisingly they had your traditional Blue Points but, to my surprise, also offered Kumamoto which are my personal favorite. Points for that. We ordered everything family style with a lb of shrimp, some calamari and onion rings and the clam chowder. We also got some steaks but they were a bit over cooked. Crab legs were delicious. One thing that particularly wasn't good was the key lime pie. Service however was very slow for a very empty restaurant and some of the drink orders got messed up. All in all, not a bad place.

Had the best best time here with our server Christina and her trainee Kathleen(I believe) our server was so so friendly and personable!!! They both were amazing!! We’re from out of town and she recommended so much for us to do for our short stay. The food…. Phenomenal!! I had the seafood omelette, and it was amazing! My husband had the steak and eggs, and as a man of few words, he didn’t need to say anything, he cleaned his plate! Definitely will be coming back!

Staycation night out in Salt Lake. This was a great choice. Entrees are large and come with a huge salad or huge soup. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the filet was one of the best I have had. The atmosphere feels like you have stepped into a restaurant at pikes market in Seattle. The restaurant was empty on a Friday night, which was a bit surprising but nice when all other restaurants had a 1.5 hour + wait. Great for a date night. I wouldn’t recommend for a family with young kids. Overall a great night out.

9 out of 10 times the food will be great but like this time some of the potatoes were cold while some were the right temp. This time I had ordered the Ahi Tuna and oysters (of course)..the fish was on point, perfectly cooked

I’ve been here twice. There are actually two sides and entrances. The first time I went I ordered crab legs and it was everything I hoped it would be. The second time I ordered the seared ahi tuna. It was barely seared so I sent it back. Then it was over cooked. The staff was so kind and accommodating with my requests! My husband’s halibut was incredible. We were told by some local regulars sitting near us that they have a secret weekend special, so ask about that! We plan to come back and try it out!

Update: We’ve been to The Oyster Bar many, many times and it’s been great most times. This time it definitely disappointed. Service was okay, not great, not as expected. We had to pour our own wine the entire time except when he opened the bottle, I know, picky, but it’s just bad service. He only checked on us once and he certainly didn’t make sure our food looked good before he brought it out. The oysters were great. My $27 salad was very disappointing. The tomatoes were tasteless and I would compare them to mushy wax. The avocado looked old not fresh and appetizing. The lemons had definitely been sitting out for about a week. Crusty and dry. I think the salad had been previously made then stored in the fridge. Really awful. If the oysters weren’t so good I would never return. 2022: Once again, The Oyster Bar didn’t disappoint. We could definitely feel the lack of employee’s, slower service overall but, our server was wonderful, good humor, knowledgeable and very friendly but not overwhelming. He did the most phenomenal job under difficult circumstances. The food was delicious, the only problem were the oysters, the shuckers didn’t cut the oysters from the shell completely and they got mushy as we tried to do it ourselves. Our salmon was beautiful and very tasty and everything else was as expected which is excellent! Parking can be difficult and be sure to make reservations, even for the bar.

I’ve been coming here since 1989. I love the crab stuffed shrimp and just wish they retained it as an entree. However, they let me build my own. It’s buttery, savory and unique. The best service as they have hired and trained the best for 33 years.

Great classic seafood joint with amazing clam chowder. I got the prime rib actually and it was delicious. Will definitely be coming back for a nice meal.

I just have to say, I was disappointed in the overall quality of food when we ate lunch there today. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, but I was expecting higher quality, especially given the hype the Market Street Grille *has* been known for in the past. Our server, Siana, was FABULOUS; thank you so much Siana, you did your job perfectly and made it enjoyable! The atmosphere is great too, and I love how you can see right into the kitchen from the grille side of the building, but the food was, at best, mediocre. Sorry, Market Street, but for nearly $40/person, you really should be better. There were seven in our party, two of which ordered steak, and both of their steaks were overdone. One colleague's blackened halibut was more toasted than blackened and another colleague's burger was dry. In fact, you could see the tan lines on the bun in the area where the bacon was shading it the top bun; it must've sat too long under a heat lamp! I should be raving about my visit, telling all of my friends to go eat there but, frankly, it may be quite a while before I visit again. Too many other places to visit first.

We went to market Street grill and did not have reservations so they graciously escorted us to the oyster bar. We had great wine, crab, fish and creme brulee. The service was excellent. Can't say enough about the great experience

The server was attentive. The coffee was good and the cup kept full. The eggs in the Huevos Ranchero were fluffy and they were smothered in a flavorful sauce of tomatoes, onions and green olives. The dish was topped with two bacon slices and avocado. I was glad to visit one of my breakfast favorites.

Way too expensive. I first ate at Market Street Grill about 8 years ago. Back then I was very impressed and loved everything about this place. I came back to visit Salt Lake City during the NCAA's and thought I'd go back to see how this place had advanced. We ate in the Oyster Bar downtown. I read the reviews about the prices being too high here, but I had remembered such a good experience in the past that I was willing to give it another try. The atmosphere had not changed much. I ordered crab cakes, which were very good. The Clam Chowder was very average. But my entree left me almost speechless. I ordered the soy glazed tuna. I was picturing a nice, thick slab of tuna, lightly seared, sliced and presented well. After all, this was a $31 plate of fish. What came out was completely disappointing. It was a simple piece of tuna, about 1/2 inch thick. Barely pink in the center. The sides were simple steamed broccoli and simple white rice. This was no more than a $16 dish at best. I have no problem paying money for a quality preparation and presentation of my food, but for $31 this was a rip off! There was zero creativity on this one! For dessert we had a creme brulee, which was very good, but it didn't wipe out the taste in my mouth that I just got robbed on dinner!

Not even close to fine dining. Been coming here off and on for years. Always though it was mediocre and overpriced. Now I feel even more strongly. Had dinner there tonight: Meager portions, nothing special flavor-wise (except the Creme Brulee) and very high prices. I honestly think if you did a blind taste test with Red Lobster you couldn't tell the difference.

Ate at the bar. Had the full lobster clam bake. It was very good; plenty of food and reasonably priced for what it was. Service was a bit slow coming out of the kitchen but Bartender Becca was there for me; getting after the cooks to get the food out. A good experience overall.

Coasting on reputation?. When Market Street opened it was a definite advance in the SL food scene. It (and its siblings) later seemed not so remarkable but were consistent and a good value. More recently we stopped going after several undistinguished meals. Meal this week was of decent quality but feels like hotel banquet food and, with exception of early-bird and similar specials, is like much hotel food in being overpriced for what it is. Former Bostonian disdains the clam chowder .<br/> Atmosphere of Oyster Bar is urbane and lively without being (early on a weeknight at least) deafening. All in all, acceptable but Salt Lake City now has more compelling options.

So sad. Use to be such a great place. Now it is just bad. And with the prices it's also insulting. Order two king crab les at 69.99 wtf. They better be good right? Nope got one skinny crab leg and bits of another. Asked the server what was up with that so she brought me out a few more skinny bits. Plus they where fishy to boot. Then she never asked how the food was. (I think she new the answer) Had two glasses of wine with dinner so the bill was over 100.00. I left hungry and pissed.

Very good. Great ambience and service. Loved the chowder, raw oysters, and salad. Pricey, but worth it.

Tasteless, unimaginative food- Mussels over cooked and without taste as all the other dishes i tried. I am dissapointed. Overpriced

Great, affordable seafood. Great food and service. Must-haves: clam chowder, lobster bisque (worth every penny), sabayon. Monday nights they have 1/2 price oysters, 1/2 price appetizers from 4-6, and an early bird special where you can get a great prime rib + more for only $19.99. You definitely get your money's worth on Mondays.

Good Seafood, but Overpriced. Being from the Pacific Northwest, I've been to many, many restaurants similar to the Market Street Oyster Bar. At first glance, their selection of shellfish and fresh fish was impressive, especially for a landlocked state. Refrigerated shipping must not be cheap these days, though, as their prices were considerably more than comparable restaurants in the PNW. While it was refreshing to find good seafood in Utah, I will buy good fresh seafood at Aquarius Seafood and cook it at home, at a fifth of the price.

Enjoyed a meal at the bar while traveling. Food was good but not as good as the high price demands. Disappointed at the price point for the quality
