I find excuses to go downtown so I can eat at HSL. Their roasted cauliflower is my favorite and even my husband (veggie naysayer) said he’d eat veggies every day if it tasted like that cauliflower. Lately I have also been loving the flatbread with chorizo and burrata...party in your mouth! HSL is a great place to eat or drink and then Lyft to a show at Eccles.

What I enjoyed most about this restaurant - that I had been planning to go to on my birthday for over a month now - was that when we ordered 3 small plates, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts, they brought each small plate out individually, essentially making our experience a 5 course meal. This was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had at a restaurant, and made for an amazing birthday present. All of this for just under $100 for 2 people (before tip). Would highly recommend this place.

One of the best dining experiences I've had in the six years I've lived in Salt Lake. Everything from the service to the wine to the food...and the desserts (!!!) was perfection. The atmosphere and the music were so on point. Thank you guys for a fantastic evening.

Our experience at HSL was fantastic! We dined courtesy of the Verizon Up rewards program and enjoyed a 4 course tasting menu along with a complimentary drink. Everything about our meals was phenomenal. Our most favorite dish was the General Tso’s cauliflower, it was so surprisingly delicious!!We will definitely dine at HSL again in the near future, thank you for an amazing experience!

This meat and potato girl was out of place at this restaurant, or so I thought. The food was out of my comfort zone but I loved every bite. The staff was amazing and our large party felt well attended to.

Love ever thing about it! The food and drinks were amazing. I wanted to order everything on the menu. Watching what other tables ordered and what I ordered, can't go wrong. The drinks were perfect! The service, bartender and manager made my fist night in Salt Lake City perfect! Thanks!

New favorite restaurant in salt lake! The special lobster ceviche was delicious, the biscuit is a must, and the cauliflower was awesome as well. On top of this, the cocktails were great. I’d recommend this place 100% and will be coming back!

Awesome food in a beautiful space. The famous cauliflower does not disappoint! Must try. The main terms of the main course, the pork shank was amazing. I like the lamb and carrot, but the cauliflower and pork were the standout dish. Very impressed. Oh and the service was excellent

It is really hard to say what is better, the service or the food. The service is so on-point here and the food is almost ethereal. I had a religious experience with every course - it was almost dumb how good the food is. It is EXACTLY how you want it to be when you read it on the menu. When you think “oh fried chicken and buttermilk biscuit. Man I hope it’s like—-“ AND IT IS! I was Anderson Cooper giggling through my fork with every bite you will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED HERE!

We had such an incredible night at HSL. Gorgeous atmosphere, wonderful staff, and outstanding food! We had a reservation for 6 pm on Saturday and we’re immediately seated upon arrival. We had the cauliflower and biscuit appetizers - both were phenomenal. For our main dishes we had the burger and fried chicken - both were incredible! For dessert we had an ice cream that ended up being a Normal ice cream pop which was a little disappointing but still tasty nonetheless. Overall dining experience was around 2 hours and we never felt rushed! Already so excited for head back! Highly recommend for a date night or to celebrate something special.

Upscale cocktails and New American fare. The drinks, food and desserts were delicious, and service at the bar was super friendly. If you're down to spend some money (and get what you pay for) this is a great choice.

Stunning doesn't even begin to describe this experience. The drinks were exquisite. The pork belly was outstanding. Both the pork shank and the duck were some of the best I've had anywhere. Add in a warm atmosphere and exceptional service and you've got an unmatched dining experience. I travel on my stomach and I will be sure to make reservations here any time I'm in down. 8 out of 5 stars start to finish. If you respect your taste buds make HSL a priority and get yourself a reservation!

Exceptional flavors in a lovely space with adroit service that is warm and appropriately friendly without hovering. That chef knows how to cook. We enjoyed apps, cocktails and entrees and loved every bite. We would go back in a heartbeat. We walked in so we were expecting a long wait, but got to jump on one end of a wonderfully long community table and found the setting to be perfect for our party of three. Open kitchen creates some heat as the evening wears on so the AC is noticeable early in the night, so bring a jacket.

Highly recommend! Delicious!! Love the atmosphere. Love the food. The combination of flavors is impeccable. Love the presentation. Love the Lounge sofa. Love the details. Ordered a couple of mocktails, the cauliflower, a salad, ricotta sourdough, steak, salmon, & desserts. All home runs. Truly amazing experience. Thank you, HSL! Will be delighted to visit you again!

I love the feel of this place and the staff were very nice! The whiskey caramel pudding is a must try! It was gone before I could snag a picture. The I like that the menu is small but diverse and everything is a great choice! The waiters explained everything about the meat and cheese board, and made sure to ask about allergies. I would come here again for a splurge night out!

Came here for a work outing. It was very easy to accommodate for our large group. The place has a very comfortable and modern vibe. Food was incredible and the service was amazing. Everyone in the party loved their food. The cauliflower was highly recommended and did not disappoint. I had a burger and asked for it to be medium rare and actually got a burger that was cooked just right. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful. Very enjoyable experience all around. I'm excited to come back and try more food.

This place is our new favorite in Salt Lake City! We came here for our anniversary and the food was outstanding. We started with the brussel sprouts and sourdough toast, both great. My wife got a burger, which she loved. I got the pork shank, which sounded odd with the whipped ranch and franks red hot but was amazing! I could eat it every night of the week. We finished with French press coffee and a chocolate torte, which was phenomenal. The drinks were great as well. Our server Anna was energetic and had great recommendations. We will be back soon!

HSL is one of Salt Lake's top culinary experiences. Nestled in a historic neighborhood, it's a perfect modern blend of class and flare, with the zen comfort of an up-town eatery. The staff was incredibly friendly! Zoe seated us, and Kris greeted our party and made some excellent recommendations. Jordan recommended a 2Bar bourbon that was like sipping on summer, and the menu was fresh and engaging, but very select. What they do here, they do with pride! I notice the staff maintaining the outdoor dining area, which was in full bloom during our visit. Gorgeous ambience. We enjoyed the oysters as an aperitif, and I ordered the New York, which came with onion ponzu and the most perfectly cooked, slightly al dente maitake mushrooms in a hollandaise sauce I've ever tasted. We also tried some carmelized carrots, on advice of our server, and were AMAZED by the blend of rich flavors: ramps, za'atar, pickled mustard seeds slathered in the most divine kumquat marmalade- a palate pageantry I've NEVER experienced before. The dessert was the final touch to this masterpiece of a meal. It was a decadent banana tres leches cake that transported me to childhood in Mexico, with house-made ice cream, mascarpone, with singed merengue. It was so light and composed, the flavors didn't cloy or wash out. I loved meeting the chef behind this genius, and he was gracious and friendly. The manager Kris was an absolute stud, extremely professional and outgoing. I look forward to returning to try the spring menu soon, and CANNOT recommend this establishment enough for those who value top-tier dining in a rustic-chic neighborhood bistro.

Food: got cauliflower based on reviews and would probably get it again with a meal. I got pork shank. It was pleasant. Cheesy grits were meh. Brusslesprouts had some horseradish glaze which I actually enjoyed. Most of the food is spicy enough that the conservative tongues in our group were mildly impacted. Service: It’s definitely a come and hang kind of place. All tables were occupied by same people for 2+ hours. Partially because on a random Wednesday at 7pm it took 60 minutes for food after we had ordered. After waiting 15 minutes for appetizers and then not ordering for another 20 minutes after appetizers were served. We were there for 3 hours total. Overall the service was very good and quiet. Atmosphere - it’s a fun little spot.

Amazing! From the service to the food. I ate a little too much but I couldn’t help myself, each dish was so tasty. I recommend the New York…by far one of the best dishes I’ve had in long time. Cauliflower is delicious as well as the buttermilk biscuit. 10/10 I will be back soon!

The food was worth the price! If you’re looking for a restaurant with good vibes and great food, go to HSL! We ordered the cauliflower for our appetizer which was amazing. We ordered the strawberry Thai basil pok pok soda for drinks, and it had a unique and flavorful taste. For entrees, I ordered the pork shank—everything on the plate worked perfectly—and my boyfriend ordered the burger. For dessert we got the chocolate torte which was rich and flavorful. The rich chocolate of the cake was balanced with the scoop of vanilla icecream served with it.

Exceptional restaurant. The service is sometimes slow but I still give it 5 stars. I am big on restaurants that change their menu and introduce new dishes and HSL does exactly that!! They have creative dishes on their menu that are delicious and incorporate different flavors. Also considers what’s seasonal and I love that it fits that mood as well. I’ve come here twice now and both times have impressed me. Their dishes aren’t exactly cheap but it’s worth it. Also I will say now, the desserts are something you can pass on. Specific dishes: 1. HSL burger: solid, not outstanding but good and juicy. 2. Filet mignon: cooked well, nice side dishes to complement it. 3. Cauliflower appetizer: absolutely delicious, it’s a must try. It’s a bit spicy but not unbearable. 4. Chickpea salad: delicate and delicious. Very nice pairing of flavors and ingredients. This salad is very refreshing, perfect in the summer time. 5. Sourdough toast: good bread, although it was a big soggy because of the toppings. The blueberry ricotta topping was good but Between that and the berry compote, I would have liked it to be a tinge sweeter. 6. Flatbread: great bread and combo of flavors. I highly recommend HSL! Also make a reservation in advance to avoid a wait. Great ambiance too.

Love it. I would highly recommend just ordering a few of the appetizers and sharing with friends. We started with the buttermilk biscuit, cauliflower, and then a HSL burger and raditori for the main course. It was all amazing but the appetizers were ultra amazing! We will be back again!

Great vibe, excellent service and even better food! Appetizer: General Tso's cauliflower/Sriracha vinaigrette/pickled Fresno (yummy but fried) Salad: Chicory salad (I think this is the name - this was very good. Fresh and I wish I had more by the time I was done) Entree: Pork shank/Frank's red hot glaze/whipped ranch/apple butter (big entree but came right off the bone - very good) Indoor and outdoor seating - parking in back is limited so we parked down the street and walked down. Came during the week and it was busy so reservation is probably recommended on weekends!

Second time at HSL. On our first visit we shared maybe 10 dishes with friends. They were all excellent. Standouts were the cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Chicories and broccolini was also superb. Cocktails were outstanding, wine selection certainly ample. The desserts were also delicious, particularly the chocolate torte. Service was engaged and friendly. They obviously had training in managing and clearing a table. It was notably unobtrusive. The decor is comfortable, rustic and hip at the same time. Park in the back if you’re able, otherwise on the street. The only miss for us was the burger, which was still good, just not at the level of Back 40, Owl Bar or Black Sheep. The fries were tasty, although quite oily. As a general note, be prepared for salty food. Not an issue for us, but something our entire party noted. Will definitely be back. The food, service and atmosphere are welcoming and clearly a lot of work went into all three.
