Review Eggs In The City - Salt Lake City

The food was fantastic! The pulled pork Eggs Benedict was awesome! My wife had the chicken and waffles and that was great as well. To be honest nothing on the menu looked bad, we are excited to come back and try more of the menu. The servers that helped us were great, very kind and talkative. The atmosphere was very laid back, we loved the nice patio seating and enjoyed watching the cars go by.

The restaurant was packed when we got there and I was impressed how clean they maintained the place. We were quoted 20 min wait but it came faster then that. We sat outside and had a beautiful Mountain View as well! Our total experience was great! Fast service, friendly staff, flavorful fresh food! The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because as we took our first bite of food our check was dropped. That was weird to deliver before we even finished eating let alone we barely started. Though even though we were given our check our drinks were refilled without asking.

Such a cute place! Quite cramped but they make the size work for them. Definitely a decent wait on a weekend but they'll text you when they're ready to seat you. Food was delish and serve was so friendly!

Finding quality breakfast in Utah has always been a challenge for me. I was born and raised in Tennessee so good breakfast out here is hard to come by in my opinion. Eggs in the city is by far the best breakfast I've had in Utah. Chicken and biscuits were absolutely divine and my mom really enjoyed her veggie omelette as well. 5/5 stars for the food, service, and atmosphere! Can't wait to come back honestly!

A consistent incredible spot for breakfast. Came here with family, friends, and anything in between. And every person has loved it. Staff is amazingly friendly and attentive. Coffee is a banger every-time, food is always fresh and tastes great. Always order something different because each dish is amazing and feel the need to keep seeing what they make well. Overall would recommend the hell out of this place because it’s super every time.

Super good! Man! Came in what I thought was early, but they were already pretty busy! I had the chicken omelette with egg whites and their pancake. Both were excellent! I always appreciate a tomato slice option as well for a side. Coffee was good! Staff was super friendly and attentive! Woild recommend for sure!!

Super fun ambiance - modern & comfy but still has that diner vibe. Best chicken & waffles ever… the hot honey was delicious and the chicken was so perfectly crispy and tender. Also got the blintzes which were light and not too sweet. Pretty large serving sizes! Gets busy during peak hours even during weekdays, but worth the (short-ish) wait and service is super quick.

Holy cow, best breakfast we’ve had (maybe ever?)! Huge portions, quick and super friendly service. I had the biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs, which comes with home fries. The gravy was INSANE, as were the potatoes. Husband had the Rueben Benedict, which was equally awesome. We almost cleared our plates despite the servings being ginormous. Came at 9am on a Tuesday and it was packed, for good reason! Wish we lived in the area so we could come back!
Andy Kachelmeier
What an awesome place! We almost didn’t stop in because the parking lot made it look a lot busier than it was and we were so happy we made the effort. It was around 11:30 am on a weekday, so I am sure it can get pretty busy. The food was amazing and there is so much to choose from on the menu. I wished we lived closer to come back again, but it was pretty amazing!

Eggs In The City is one of my favorite spots on earth! Everything on the menu is a win. Constantly filled coffee, huge water/ beverage glasses, fast and friendly service. We've been coming here for over a decade and we won't stop!

The 5 choices of meats were excellent. The salmon was prepared to perfection. The variety of salads and cold plate offerings were very appetizing. Great to have large cold shrimp and tasty cocktail sauce. The awesome view, varied piano music selections and friendly staff were an additional enhancement of the evening. The only suggestion would be to have warm plates at the carving station. We arrived at 5PM at opening on a Monday to enjoy the best presentation and freshness of the prepared dishes.

Egg Burger for the win!

Arrived after lunch on Saturday and couldn’t eat at a place called Eggs in the City and not have a breakfasty type lunch...(I mean come on!). Chose the Egg Burger and it did not disappoint! It was fabulous and hit the spot. Nice part of town and a great setting. We chose to sit outside and it was very nice. Staff was courteous and the place was busy - even just before closing time of 2pm. Will visit again.

What a great place to have breakfast! I had the Greek Skillet without the eggs (I hate eggs). The skillet was wonderful and the price was very friendly. I would strongly recommend this restaurant.
Rachel
Horrible wait times. Coffee sucks and so do the condiments- I think if they spent a little more there, along with setting up their seating to be more efficient then this place could hit it's top potential. As it is now though I don't really like visiting- the Mexican skillet is good but the waits are horrific- at least an hour long and then another long wait for food, even on a Tuesday. It's a "hip" place apparently. I try to be really honest and not emotionally driven so I hope this helps. They have good cooks.

10/10 accidentally took a wrong route and stumbled upon this place and it happened for a reason! We ordered the blintz & mama burrito and were not disappointed! No matter what you order get the blintz on the side for sure! Seriously the best I've ever had! I will definitely be back.
Jeremy Eveland
Good option. Pretty much as delicious as you would expect. It's on a fun street with a lot of other dining options and some out door seating. Haven't tried any of the savory options but the waffles are delicious.

Love this place. Always have great food and I love the vibe! Best to go early or you might have to wait.
My favorite is the juevos rancheros or tuna melt.
Courtney Stegerwald
Fast & friendly service, great food, tricky front door! Waiter had great sideburns. Cute patio. Cute coffee cups. Probably my new favorite breakfast place!

Love Eggs. I love this place, it is seriously one of the best neighborhood restaurants in the city. Cant wait to go back. Keep up the good work!!

If you are looking for a comfortable diner style breakfast or brunch then head to Eggs In The City . Eggs In The City has a relaxed vibe with tasty food. We love the neighborhood too! Menu favorites include Huevos Rancheros, French Toast (loaded with fruit), Biscuits and Gravy, Meat Lovers Skillet and the Eggs Benedict. The service was great and friendly. The recommendations by the waitress of the Huevos Rancheros and the Tuna Melt were right on.

Rude Staff. I am very displeased with today’s experience at Eggs in the City. My group was quoted 35 minutes for a table. After an hour and a half of waiting and noticing that well over a dozen groups had been seated before us, but had arrived after us, I decided to confront the manager. I told her what I noticed that these tables are being seated even though they came after us and she responded that we had many opportunities to sit outside, we weren’t too happy about eating our brunch outside in the cold, so we declined. After being asked for a third time, my group was finally pushed into sitting outside, and after we were notified that it would take another 15-30 minutes of waiting, unacceptable. Then the manager continue to argue with me with a very unkind tone. As a manager I would expect her to know how to work with angry customers and know how to deal with these situations, but this wasn’t the case. She told me that I didn’t have to eat there, and that I could leave. She seemed to be happy to be losing business, as an employee do you not want good reviews, do you not want to be busy and know that your customers are happy? To her I guess not. I was not about to sit and eat at a place where I had been disrespected by the manager. She did not know how to handle customers correctly and should never argue with them, I am very displeased and angry. I believe her actions were unacceptable, if she does not know how to handle irate customers that she does not have a qualifications to be a manager. She should have never argued with me. In the end I will never go back to Eggs in the City, as long as that manager continues to represent them.

Great Breakfast. I like the food and the feel of this place, and it’s not terrible priced for the quality they deliver. Fast Nice Service.

It used to be one if my favorite restaurants until now, I really hated it, the service was the worse I've ever had in my life, there was no wait and no many customers at the place and the waitress came to say hi and never showed up again, we saw her taking orders from people who came after we arrived to the site, she spent about 15 minutes talking with her friends and never care about us, I manage a restaurant and I know how it works, I don't allow service like this at my place, very disappointed, we are never coming back and I will share my experience with all my friends.

Waited in line for 20 minutes only to be rushed out once our food was served. Servers took out dish before we were even finished to rush us along. I will never go back again. Very rude staff!!!!
JFoodie
Excellent Breakfast. Service was hurried because the restaurant was busy. Food was delicious.

Today I decided to give it a try. I got there biscuits and gravy with eggs. No wait. Food came surprisingly fast (sometimes a good or bad sign). Looked at the potatoes and tried them. They were ok... A lot of seasoning. Then we got to the biscuits and they were pan made, thin, and topped with sharp cheddar. Disappointed! Then the post about gravy! You've got to be kidding.. The gravy taste like what you would get from a packet..terrible. Gravy is so simple to make...so please make it right. As a plus they forgot the eggs.. The cool part was the manager apologized and covered the bill. He made it right, cool location. Honestly the food was subpar...I don't think I'll be back.
Kristi
Stood in line for about 20 minutes and watched 3 couples get seated before us after arriving way after us. Two of the couples knew someone working in the restaurant and was able to be seated quickly. Poor customer service. No matter who you know you should be waiting like the rest of us. Doesn't matter how good the food is. This is a first impression. We had never been to the restaurant before and was looking forward to it. As now won't be back until they work things out.

Love the food - hate the wait. I can't make my mind up on places such as this. I absolutely love the food, but I can't stand waiting around a tiny restaurant feeling like I'm in everyone's way when I'm waiting for a table. I've never not had a wait to sit here - which is obvious considering how everything on their menu is amazing. I'll just have to go earlier in the day next time.

One Thumb Up?. I am not going to like or dislike Eggs in the City. I have been a few times. They have a good selection: Huevos rancheros, eggs benedict, crepes, pancakes, more egg options, etc. The items I have tried have just been average. Eggs in the City is crowded on the weekends and has a strong following. Give it a try and see what you think. I will always go if someone suggests it first. If I were to choose a breakfast place, I would probably mention a few other breakfast places before this one.
Auretha Callison
Love the food but not the smoke.. "Love this place. Unfortunately this visit was ruined by grill smoke. Had us practically choking. They need a ventilation system. I will return when they have the doors open in the spring."

Blintzes. Eggs in the city is one of the few local spots with blintzes. They are decent but the burrito ordered this morning as a variation was uninspired. Noisy even on a Monday when less than half full. Our occasional visits get further and further apart.

It Was Just OK. After hearing all the good things about Eggs in the City, we gave it a try yesterday. The breakfast food was definitely better than, say, IHOP, but was easily subpar compared to Blue Plate Diner. They both cost about the same, BP gives you a larger portion of food, and it tastes WAY better. The only notable thing was the (dessert) crepes given to us at the end because they messed up on our order twice.
DuckFanAlex
Best Biscuits & Gravy in town. If you're ready to relax and enjoy some good food this is the place. If you're pretentious go somewhere else.

What a great place to eat, food was awesome, coffee was great and the staff was very friendly I would recommend this place to everyone its a must to go there.

I have eaten her several times and every time is excellent, I really like the atmosphere of this place. 2 thumbs up

I don't get the hype. Met a friend for lunch on a Friday. Super crowded and it was so hot inside I could barely stand it. The wait staff was very nice but the food was so mediocre I was surprised. I had been told Eggs was a "great place" for breakfast so I ordered off that menu. Nothing was awful but nothing was great either..won't go back.
Food Junkie
Great place for brunch since im not a morning person lol great atmosphere great food and service was impeccable
Dave
Great little spot. We had breakfast there this morning. Got there about 8:00 and it was about 1/4 to 1/2 full. By the time we left, there were people waiting at the door for a table. I had the biscuits and gravy. It was delicious. The service was great too. We had several people, that weren't even our server come over and ask if we wanted more coffee, how things were...etc. Because it is a small place, it is a little noisy, but a very nice neighborhood eatery.

Atmosphere is great. Food though is pretty average. Not bad but not as amazing as a lot of people have said. Kind of out of the way. Probably won't be back. If you live in the Sugarhouse area and are a hipster, you probably would love this place.
Seeker Of Yummy Food
Pretty good food, mediocre service. I have sporadically gone to Eggs in the City since it opened awhile ago, and I think that it has definitely gotten better lately. My omelette was delicious, potatoes were crisped perfectly, and yet how hard is it to serve basic, good breakfast food? I guess I just wish it was a bit more distinctive with its menu, a la Blue Plate, Finns, etc., but maybe I need to give it another go. I guess the entire experience was just satisfactory and didn't really give me lots of memorable reason to come back. The service was also a bit inconsistent and it was packed to the brim with people waiting for tables, so be prepared to wait on the weekends...
Aunt Petunia
Yum. Love their omlettes!
Oh Captain My Captain
Abusive. Although Eggs in the City does have decent food, it is their customer service (or lack of it) that keeps me away. I have been a victim of their surly arrogance more than once and my experience has been confirmed by other independent sources. It's too bad because I live about ten blocks from there and I'd love a nearby place to go have breakfast and coffee.

The Gravy is amazing.. If you are the kind of person that loves your breakfast with a little gravy on it, this is the place. They have the best Eggs Benedict and the best Biscuits & Gravy in town. It's like a little bit of heaven.
Al Peterson
Hmmm. Cool place, and a cool waiter with a cool moustache. And sadly, not a good breakfast. Kinda puzzled. I would give these guys another shot. but I keep hearing the same kind of thing.

Eggs in the city can't cook eggs. The owner decided it was my fault for the under cooked water eggs I was served. On the second try, the yokes were hard. When I sent it back again, I didn't get an apology from the owner. Instead, she asked me not order it again. I told her she really should figure out how to make a decent eggs Benedict and that I wouldn't be coming back. I can't believe this place is still in business. Save your money and avoid this place.

We got there after 7am on Sunday so it had only few people in there. We love the place. It felt like somewhere in artsy neiborghood in California we used to live. We got just the right amount of attention from our servers as far as coffee refills and stuff. We felt relaxed there. Loved it!!!

This place reminds me of my home. Love the food the staff is kind, and very friendly. Had the eggs Benedict with side of hash. Killer hollandaise sauce. Highly recommend! And on top of that the owner is very nice to look at.

Cute spot, Great food. Today was my third time visiting Eggs in the City and I must say nothing short of STELLAR all three times. We walked in to a full restaurant with a wait but were greeted quickly but the cute hostess who seemed to be the owner as well, as soon as we were on the list a young man offered us coffee, which we gladly accepted knowing we had a 30 minute wait in front of us, the place gives off a subtle hipster vibe but with customers ranging from families of 5 with little kids to college students recovering from their saturday night.

When we were seated we were immediately served oversized glasses of water (considering the 98 degree weather seems like a necessity) and our drink order was taken and delivered quickly despite the packed joint.

Have to give the menu a double take every time I go there considering the wide variety from traditional breakfast of omelets and steak and eggs to the Huevos Rancheros (Which was my plate of choice for today). It was served piping hot with some tasty homemade salsa and the Rancheros sauce was fresh and delicious. My friend got the Greek Skillet and outspokenly enjoyed it, cannot give my personal opinion on it considering he wouldn't part with more than a bite during the meal but given that the huevos i ordered filled the plate completely i did not leave hungry.

The service was great, our server whom was a younger man was very outgoing and made our dining experience very enjoyable.

This place has made its way to the top of my favorite brunch spots and will stay there as long as the food and service stay consistent.

Underdone potatoes. Eggs in the City gets good reviews. We have tried it twice and don't agree with our friends. We find that the food is nothing special. For example, today we had rancheros and the greek plate. The potatoes were not cooked through and the presentation of the food was sloppy. In a city that has Finns and Blue Plate, you really got to be on your game. Eggs in the City is not.
Suomynona
Awful experience. The food is good and you certainly get a lot for the price, BUT dealing with the service leaves you questioning why you went. We have always known this and rarely go but decided we wanted to this weekend. We called ahead and found out they close at 2, but seat their last table at 1:50. We arrived at 1:45. The host was very friendly but the rest of the staff made sure we knew we were not even remotely welcome there. When walking to our table, the waitress loudly stated, "Well I thought we were closed but APPARENTLY we aren't." Three different employees went to check the "Open" sign to make sure they turned it off. The waitress went to the tables that had not yet ordered and informed them they had one minute if they planned to eat today. They also gave us a bowl of poured ketchup instead of a jar, apparently to dirty less items but given the reception having the waitress that hates the customer pour out a condiment-led us questioning what was underneath. Given the level of hate directed to the customers, I wouldn't have put it past them to have spit in the bottom of the bowl before putting the ketchup in. We ate and left by 2:12.

I was tempted to leave at the start, but knew that is exactly what they wanted and that defeated the purpose. I understand people do not want to remain at work long after closing, but if you state you seat your last table at 1:50, you shouldn't rip the customers that arrive prior to that time. Should you hate working so much, maybe its time to quit your job and employ people who want to work. Should it be a company decision to hate customers, they really should just close on Sundays or state they take their last table at 1:30.

After this experience you would think that they paid us to go through that and go to their place of business. Apparently the economy is not bothering them as they are happy to push away customers and leave them 100% aware they are not wanted in their establishment-even during hours of business.

In all of our less than stellar service experiences before I hadn't posted a complaint as the cheap food seemed to make it seem that you may also get cheap service, but this visit was exceptionally awful and people should be aware of what type of company they are supporting and decide if there may be a different establishment that actually enjoys having customers pay for their food.

Check the temp. The breakfast was good but I would have preferred the veggies and meats cut into larger chunks. It would have also been much better if it had been at a decent temperature. Will not be back.

When you see a place this packed for lunch that has to be a good sign. I love the art work inside the dinning area. My girlfriend and I had the option to sit outside on the patio on this nice day enjoying the food and the weather. The food was very good I ordered the Mr. Bigg. The potato's were amazing, I can say those are some of the best potato's I've tasted. Will be coming back soon.
Rhys
Not bad. But honestly how can you call yourself a breakfast specialist with drip coffee the only choice? My kingdom for a good espresso!
Stacey
Yummy and Good Service!. The food is great, the coffee is always piping hot and the service always friendly and accomodating. Their pancakes are great, as well as their breakfast potatoes and omelettes.
Notorious
Overrated. The space is cool. As is the neighborhood. Hipsters galore. The food - and I mean breakfast - just never lives up to my expectations. Although the eggs are typically cooked well, the potatoes, toast, and bacon (usually) fail to impress. The potatoes always seem to be under-done, the toast always seems to be dry as a bone, and the bacon always seems to be over-done (think brittle). Or a combination of the three. The service can be spotty as well. In fact, one day after ordering our meal and waiting for 30 plus minutes, we were informed that the food was gonna take a bit longer as the cook had walked-off the job, literally, as we were putting in our order. I'll stick to Finns in the morning.
Jon
TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! I have always been pretty tolerant of waiters and waitresses but the hostess here was ridiculous. We left before we could eat.
Rich Latimer
I would have voted "indifferent" but had to err on not liking it. The food was mediocre and had obviously been sitting for awhile before being served. Wait staff was pleasant.

Awesome Corned Beef Hash. I can't believe I said that! My mother fixed that crap out of a can when I was growing up and I vowed never to eat it again. I read through the menu and read and re-read the ingredients. I don't know what came over me, I ordered the Corned Beef Hash. It was fantastic and I will return for me. I actually ordered it to go one morning and it was as tasty as the first time. I also thought the coffee was great to. I don't like weak coffee and the coffee sure delivered. Strong and I might say just below Ellie Mae Clampett Coffee. WONDERFUL!
Tiffany Loves Her Cheat Days
Yummy eggs. Ate an egg white omlette with crab, spinach, mushrooms and onion. Was cooked perfectly and had some Chile verde on top (also great-from someone that has eaten many chile verde). Other friends had biscuits and grazy with french toast. All hit it straight outta the ball park. Serivice was speedy and was out in less then a half hour. I noticed many people reserve seats so don't show up last minute without calling if your on a tight schedule!!!

Decent food large portions great atmosphere prompt service once seated. I'll be returning.

Heather is awesome!. The food can vary from fair to good, but one thing that is great is Heather the owner. She makes the place worth going back to!

Order the build your own burrito. Soooooo damn good! Worth the wait!!!

Try the Miguelito. Eggs is their name, and Eggs is what they do (very well, I might add).

Chili Verde, eggs, tortillas, and a hamburger patty??? Trust me--I thought the same thing you're thinking. But try it and thank me later.

The restaurant is in an old gas station, and they've done a good job of renovating, but maintaining the old character. I'm definitely a fan of Eggs in the City.
Matthew K
Hip space; average food. This converted garage on what was probably formerly a gas station is hip, comfortable, and full of light. The wait staff was friendly.

The food is average. Most items were fine but not exceptional. Eggs ordered hard arrived slightly runny. The drip coffee was not worth a top off; Finn's and the Oasis Cafe have much better coffee. This is a stupid shortcoming since providing decent coffee has little impact on the bottom line and requires no more effort than providing mediocre coffee.

If you live in the neighborhood, drop in; otherwise, check back to see if they raise the food a notch.

Mar 2011 note: coffee issue has been addressed and food seems a bit better.
J Stokes
Consistently great. I highly recomend.

It could have a more creative menu, but it's a good place to stop on the way to work.

Another great breakfast spot..... I recently went here for breakfast with a friend and besides the long wait for a table, I found it to be both quaint and charming. They have transformed an old garage into a wonderful little restaurant that serves both breakfast and lunch. I had the eggs florentine, poached eggs, spinach and tomato on an english muffin, served with breakfast potatoes. A very satisfying morning meal. They have great coffee, too. Like all the great breakfast places in the Valley, you'll have to wait for a bit for a table on Saturday mornings, but it is worth the wait. I'll definately be returning here.
The Dixie Dish
...incredibly inviting and buoyant, offering a unique interior and engaging service that was evident as soon as I stepped inside. Before I even glanced at the menu, the fantastic aroma coming from their open kitchen and the fresh produce I noticed resting on the counter was evidence this was going to be a great start to my day.

The Verdict? I'm a huge fan of the vibe and the food at Eggs in the City. It isn't gourmet breakfast, but the prices are fair and there are a few items on the menu that will always keep me coming back. The fact that it works well with kids is a big plus for us too!

when I first saw the name of this restaurant “Eggs in the City” I immediately thought of the Billy Idol classic “Hot in the City”. As a matter of fact you should probably listen to this while you read this review.

Word of mouth led me a group of classmates to Eggs in the City one morning for breakfast, and I'm here to tell you all about it :) One of my all-time favorite splurge breakfast dishes is Huevos Rancheros -- eggs on tortillas with tasty sauce, beans and salsa. YUM! Obviously the portion sizes here at Eggs in the City are enormous, so it has that going for it, and my dish was reasonable in flavor. I've definitely had better, and I've also definitely had wors

I liked Eggs. I'll certainly be back the next time I need to get my Irish, but not Mexican, on.

I’ve been visiting Eggs in the City ever since I moved to Utah about 7 years ago. Its a reliable and comfortable neighborhood cafe for quality diner style breakfast. I have a girl friend that I meet up with once a month at Eggs in the City. Our consistent breakfast date here has challenged me to try a lot on their menu, though I must say I have a few favorites. The French Toast at Eggs in the City is classic. I almost always order it fully loaded with berries, bananas and candied pecans on top. The added toppings make it a little pricey but every bite is delicious with the caramelized and toasted nuts and the juicy fruit adding a punch to the toast and maple syrup. My other favorites on their menu include their Huevos Rancheros, which I usually get with egg whites (I’m not a huge egg person in general), and no che
