This is a diner blast from the past. We went at noon on a Thursday and waited 10 min for a table. I bet a weekend would be packed! We had a turkey reuben/fries and a 1/2 club/potato soup. First off, the sandwiches are HUGE. The bread looks like 6-7 in wide and both sandwiches had two layers of meat. They also tasted delicious. Good quality items. 👌 The amount of soup and fries were also more than enough. All.in all, we were in and out on a busy lunch day in an hour and had two full meals and drinks for $31!! The service was spot on and the value can't be beat for the quality and amount of food. Highly recommend and I look forward to going back and trying the milkshakes and pizza.

What a great experience! All around awesome place to eat, and spend time. I hadn't been here in about 20 years, and it was even better than I remembered!! My Carnegie pastrami sandwich was pretty good, served hot, flavorful and loaded with meat! My 10 year old son crushed an adult sized BLT, milkshakes were delicious, and the Central Park pizza was savory and mouthwatering. The artichokes, kalamata olives, and cheese on the pizza were salty and went very well with the white wine they served. Customer service was excellent!! This place was packed on a Friday night!! Thank you Cafe Manhattan, what an authentic 50's diner experience.

It's a wonderful 50's style diner with classic food and beverages. I had a BLT with their home made chips. I really enjoyed a cherry phosphate.
The service was amazing. So friendly and very attentive. The decor is bright 50's memorabilia. The burgers are good size and the kids loved them.

My uptown burger and fries were amazing as always.

Nice little walk if you’re staying at Le Meridian. Food was better than expected and better than the average diner! Get a cherry coke, they make them themselves soda fountain style!

This is a cozy little diner and it was perfect for a Saturday afternoon lunch. Their white chicken chili is so good and has a great kick to it. Our waiter was great. It's hard to find places like this today.. just a good classic American diner.

Patty melt was awesome. Also had a great orange float.

Being from NY finally good pizza. Nice atmosphere and food was great. Vegi lasagna was out standing.

If you are under 80 and wanted to get an idea what a diner was like in the 50a I think this is the place. Has a lot of kitschy stuff on the walls and looks authentic. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us suggestions of his favorites. Food was good too! I'll be back to try different entrees.

I love this little retro cafe / sandwich shop with all its vintage signs and bric-a-brac. It's small, but that's part of the allure, and the menu features some really distinctive sandwiches. And for Clayton, prices are pretty good. There's a small parking lot that fills quickly, so you might find yourself parking on-street and walking a block.

It took 10 minutes before we even got our drinks.
We ordered two rare burgers and watched as tables that were served 5-10 minutes after us got their burgers delivered first. Then our burgers were both massively overcooked. We asked to pay for what he'd already had instead of waiting and heard the chefs in back complaining about it instead of accepting any fault.

Great place for a quick and easy lunch or dinner. We liked the atmosphere a lot. The setting is an exact 50s diner with delicious food from then to now. I tried Grilled Kosher Dog with chili and cheese on it. I was impressed, it had so much flavor to it. My friend had a burger with pepperjack cheese and hand cut fries (without buns) and I could really tell that she was satisfied with her food. The service was fast and accurate, however, our waitress seemed a little rude. I am going to cut her some slack and say maybe she was having a bad day because she didn't seem like the person who would intentionally be rude ...
(I know I know there is no excuse for bad customer service....)
Another guy from the staff stopped by to refill our drinks and ask how everything was. We enjoyed it and I want to take my son with me the next time.

Cute little diner in Clayton. Shakes, chicken fingers, thin crust pizza... all served on a checkered floor with classic red stools. Parking can be rough, but it's a great place to go when you can't quite figure out what you're in the mood for...

They Changed the chicken strips that were the best.. They changed the chicken strips that used to be one of the reasons we went there. Also asked several times about sauce in the side of my meatball sandwich and was reassured it was in the order. When I got home : no sauce. When I called they said sorry and made up some bs excise in stead of having better communication between front and kitchen. Never go back. I will try the Manhattan Express on Wydown next time , they are better.

Great food, great service. We came in with a group of 11 for dinner tonight. We'd called ahead to see if they could take us, so we expected they would have room. When they got there, the table was set up and already had water on it for our group. Our server was excellent--efficient and professional but still very friendly and fun. Our food arrived quickly, and the portions were extremely generous. Everyone raved about the quality of their dinner. The prices were very reasonable too. I would definitely eat here again the next time we're in St. Louis.

Awesome whole wheat crust pizza.

Lousy Lunch. I have only been a few times in the past year but today was by far the worst. The food and service is usually border line ok. Today I ordered a burger medium well. It came out in a reasonable time but crispy on the outside and running blood from a raw middle. When I pointed this out to the waitress she argued that it was done medium well. She took it back to be cooked more and it came back done but on the same blood soaked bun with wilted condiments. Burger and a Coke $12 and change! They were busy but still had empty tables so no excuses. I would recommend staying away which is what I will be doing.

One of the BEST. Love the food, love the atmosphere, love the wait staff, love the location. Truly one of my favorite places to eat in St. Louis. I've never had a bad meal or bad service in the many dozens of times I've eaten there over the years.

What do I think?. I think the customer service is HORRIBLE. I got yelled at on the phone for placing in order. Had I known I was such an inconvenience I would've taken my business somewhere else. Not to mention the quality of the food has decreased.

Not good. Waiter was borderline rude, wife's pizza was burnt, my burger was scalding hot and yet still partially raw inside. The bottom bun was fridge cold. My sons meal came out to him 10 minutes before my wife got her meal, then I waited another 5 to get mine. I then had to remind him about our drinks. All this and it costs $30 for 3 people. They were not busy either so no good reason. One employee just stood there and stared at us. We were disappointed across the board and cannot recommend this place at all. Avoid.

My wife and I are regulars here love it. They know us now and treat us very nice. Great food great atmosphere all good!

Good band 4 'da buck. Modeled after a 50's diner with Coca Cola red vinyl booth seating & the soda fountian station, Elvis & kitch from the time period make 4 a light fun atmosphere.

Re the food, had the Seasoned Beef sandwitch, sliced roast beef on a sub bun seasoned with garlic butter. Beef was juicy without the side of beef juice, good flavor & hardy bun. Got side of coleslaw (tasteless but free). Order a side of fries & put on sandwitch for a tasty addition.

I long for the 'old' location. Food is very good. The atmoshere is ok at current location, but it just can't compete with the cozy atmosphere of the prior location. Although, I do understand that that loca. was tiny & that they can now accommodate more diners.

Terrible. We ordered take out - Reuben, cheeseburger and salad, Pretty simple right? wrong - reuben wasn't even grilled - cold pastrami with swiss cheese and saurkraut on marble rye - what's up with that??? Burger - medium rare - came dark as night on the inside and how can you mess up a good italian house salad? they figured it out - lettuce was limp and cheese was one big clump! Too bad our neighborhood restaurant won't be any more!!

Have to go Back. Had the white chili. Very good. Have to go back to try the rueben and a chocolate shake among other items on the menu.

One of the best pizza places in STL. Great sandwiches, salads and of course their toasted ravioli is the BEST in STL. Nice soda fountain decor, staff always welcoming and friendly.

Best STL Style Pizza. Forget Imo's. These guys make the best STL style pizza in the city. Great atmosphere, awesome food, good prices. CHAMPION.

Wonderful smoke-free diner. So many great things about Cafe Manhattan: an eclectic menu, fun interior, reasonable prices, and it is smoke-free.I've tried several items but I often go with the vegetarian lasagna. A favorite when I'm in Clayton at meal time.

Eat there all the time. You have to try the Seasoned Beef Sandwich! It is definitely a favorite. It comes with a side of aus ju, but the sandwich is so tasty and moist it is unnecessary. I recommend subbing fries for the potato chips. And if you have room for a malt, they are excellent as well.

Our Last Meal. ...was here, before we moved from StL to Seattle back in the summer of 2000. We have fond memories of Cafe Manhattan. Many great dates, wandering downtown Clayton. Good shakes, tasty french dip, and I think I remember the BLT being worth the visit.

You won't find too many surprises at Cafe Manhattan, and that's a good thing. Classic diners should have comfort food, because that's the essence of how one should feel at a diner. The atmosphere, food, and service all exuded friendliness and an air of familiarity. Cafe Manhattan is open 7 days a week, from 11 am to 10 pm, and should definitely be on your go-to diner list. It's a great place for kids and families, and as such I'll definitely be back.
