Review Vine Mediterranean Cafe And Market - Saint Louis

Delicious food! The lentil soup is comfort in a bowl. We also ordered chicken tenders and fries for an app and the fries were just as good as I’d heard. Absolutely worth the hype. My boyfriend got chicken shawarma sandwich and loved it. He has been here many times but this was my first and it was delightful. The best part was 100% the service. The two men working when I came in to pick up were polite, attentive, and friendly. We will be back!

We dined there and I ordered the mixed Shawarma, chicken and beef, hummus and the Mango Mania smoothie. Great flavor and the chicken was very tender. The beef was chewy so I recommend sticking with just chicken. The hummus was served in a plastic container and my reaction was this wasn’t made on premise. My daughter’s take was the restaurant was geared for mostly take out. The pita served with the hummus was not warmed. This made it a bit chewy. The smoothie was Delicious. I would order it again. This is a very casual restaurant and it’s family friendly. No parking lot so you’ll park on the street. You go to the counter to order then they’ll call your name when your food is ready.

First time trying Mediterranean food. It was different but very good. I'll definitely come back and try something different.

was having a tough day and coming here was exactly what I needed. everyone is so warm and inviting. food was DELICIOUS and reasonably cheap for how much you get. Met my brother here. He was running late and the kitchen closed by the time he got here, but they game him a FREE MEAL! 🙂

This is the only good shawarma I've found since moving back to the US after living in the middle east for 3 years. This place is the best. Their lemon and mint is perfect too!

Dine inside or outside. Grab your lunch for the next day while you're there. Great value, amazing flavor. Every dish is a taste sensation.

I have eaten at and gotten takeout from here dozens of times and every time the food has been exceptional. The preparation is very consistent and always delicious. Staff is so friendly and kind. My favorites are the mango chickpea curry and the falafel. Lucky to have the Vine in STL!

The beef in the vine kabob was juicy. The chicken shawarma was on the drier side. However, the tzatziki sauce redeemed the shawarma. The lentil soup was also salty. The restaurant is dine-in, but everything comes in takeout containers. They look understaffed, but the waitress was helpful.

We are from out of town and I was worried about finding vegan food to eat not only did they have loads of options everything was delicious and the portions were extremely large. A side of fries will easily work for people. I just wish they were not out of grape leaves. Lentil soup is *chef's kiss*

Lebanese inspired restaurant and market. Market portion is pretty small, but I assume has tough items to find at other grocers. Ton of hookahs for sale... I can't remember the name of what I got, but it was a a tradition Lebanese kebab over a ton of rice. I really enjoyed it. We also got the hummus and chowed it down fast, it was a very generous portion with just enough pita. Venue is spacious but a little gritty. Very diverse environment. Service was friendly, but not prompt. We would go back again. Parking is all off-street.

The food was good. Portions were huge. The chick pea soup was outstanding. Confusion on access to the rest rooms for paying customers was my only issue.

One of my new favorite restaurants! Grrrreat food and service!! Had lunch there today with some friends. The nachos were so cool and delicious...what a great idea, chips with hummus, mixed veggies, meat and lebnah. Also had a chicken kufta sandwich...tender, great sauce. Great flavors!! We thought it couldn't get any better and then we had some pistachio baklava...wow....best one I have ever had!! Can't wait to go back!!

My friend and I randomly stumbled upon this gem of a Mediterranean restaurant! We came for lunch before heading back home from our vacation in St Louis. They have the best lentil soup I’ve ever had. I’m not a big lentil soup fan but this lentil soup was hot, creamy, well seasoned, and had amazing texture. The beef shawarma had plenty of food for the price especially as a lunch special. The beef kabob is delicious too but I recommend the beef shawarma more. Both meats were very flavorful and tender. You really can’t go wrong with the food here! The lunch portions are enough for two or three meals depending on the person. I highly recommend and wish this is closer to where I live!

I've been coming here since they were just a little hummus stand and a market, and it's been incredible to see this location become a full-fledged restaurant. The stand-out option (for me) is always a falafel sandwich. Lots of seating available, and it's great to sit outside in warmer weather. Wonderful place to catch up with friends or go on a casual date. Try the Mediterranean fries- they're worth it! Service can sometimes be uneven, but try to visit at a slower time.

Strongly recommend you give this one a try if you enjoy Greek, food. From appetizers to main dishes it was delicious. Lamb chops were perfect. I personally enjoyed the baba ghanoush, Kibbeh. Honest folks too. One of our group, left their wallet and the employee rushed out to return the wallet. Thanks to the staff at The Vine, we will be sure to pass on the good word on your behalf. Thanks to the lady bus driver from the MO Botanical Garden for recommending this place.

Great as always, we had the shawarma mixed sandwich, wait a minute, are they bigger?!😊 I think if they had different light bulbs, it would be such a cozy place, nevertheless this spot is one our favorite.

The vine has the best hummus and pita bread that I have ever had and their lentil soup is one of the best I've ever tried I recommend this place for meat eaters or vegan people it caters to both it's great and I will be back again and again

Tonight I ordered food from The Vine for carry-out and got home and realized there was no bread. Not only did they send someone to my house bring us bread, but they included an extra hummus and baklava as well. (And refused to let us tip them) Excellent service, and the best Arabic food in St. Louis. Highly recommend.

I went here for the first time yesterday with a friend. You won't be disappointed with anything you order. This is the best food I've ever ate. I'm obsessed. I will definitely be coming here al the time. Everyone was so helpful picking out food for my first time. I'm definitely going to recommend this place to everyone!! 😋😋

I'm from Detroit and we have excellent Lebanese food. But this is THE best I've ever eaten outside of my aunts kitchen. I was in Saint Louis for 4 days, I ate here 3 times. Wonderful!!!
Justin Kralemann
I have come here many times. The food is wonderful, but the service and staff are absolutely horrendous. I brought my friend here tonight for the first time. I was literally embarrassed at the entire experience. 1. We did not get a waiter for 10 min. We finally had to stop someone and ASK if we could order. 2. They didn't give us utensils after they brought our food out and walked away. We had to ask. 3. We ordered sandwiches and they charged us for full entrees. 4. No one came and got our check for another 10 mins. Again, the food is wonderful. However, a dining experience is based on more than the food and not sure if I will ever return.

The Vine Cafe is one of my favorite things about living in the City. I usually get mine to go but it's a lovely place to have a meal with friends.
Monica Russo
Love this restaurant! Great prices and friendly staff. Nice patio for when it's warm outside. The mint lemonade is delicious!

This is one big reason I miss St. Louis, since I moved back to Georgia. This was probably my main go-to restaurant. Food and staff are the best.
Rebecca Sabin
Great service even though they were very busy. Bread was amazing, and all of our food had great presentation and tasted amazing. Sat outside and enjoyed our evening there. Highly recommend.
Kimberly Shea
Loved it: service, food, atmosphere. (And best hummus ever.)
Logan Draga
They have great food. I really like the hummus with pita and falafel.
Nancy Moore
Very tasty and economical! A good lunch or quick dinner place.

Good food, but service was frustrating. I left there feeling like they were trying to screw me. Won't be going back. Food isn't worth the frustration.

We waited patiently, after finishing our meals, for the server to bring us a check. Finally, after quite some time, I went up to the front to ask for the checks. Here, I was informed that they could only do four checks per table. We came in with a group of ten, we had all just met, and did not know each other well enough to split a check (nor were we prepared, with cash, to do so). Would have been nice if they mentioned that when seating us. Apparently it says so in the menu in "fine print" (b/c everyone reads the whole menu!). I went back and looked at the menu and found this section, and it actually says they can do six checks per table. The server told me that he could "make an exception" and do six checks. Ha, that isn't an exception, it is your basic policy. I ate their food and then wanted to pay for it...how complicated is that???

One of our go to places. Dependable and consistent. Delicious food. A real bargain; high quality at a fair price.
One of our go-to places. Fries the best in our side of town. You’ll be surprised at the chicken tenders. hummus, baba ganoush, fatoush. Summer time for makdoos. Try the falafel-hummus-tabouli sandwich.
Steve Baker
Coming from a Lebanese family, the food at The Vine was about as close as you could get to my mother's or grandmother's. I have tried everything on the menu and still can't make up my mind when I get ready to order. So I ask to see the owner (who by the way is the chef) and ask him what I should have and let him cook for me. Unfortunately, you can only do this when it's quiet and not busy (so in other words, not very often). Go there and get adventurous. Sahtein and enjoy!

Yummy!! Had me overeat yet again!

I am not quite a salad person but the ones i tasted here had an everlasting taste..
Fresh baked melt in mouth bread.. no wonder it was out of stock so soon.. everyone kept asking for more.. classy falafel.. grilled chicken steak was also good. The rice served as side dish has a rich flavor n aroma.

plenty of good options even for vegetarians 👌

We wanted to come here, because my wife and I lived in West Africa and we loved the Lebanese food they had there. The food was pretty good. It wasn't as good as West Africa, but the hummus was amazing! The reason I rated it so low was because the restaurant smelled like cheapo cleaning supplies. It comes in that purple bottle, Kablaam. The stench was overpowering. I'm afraid if we go back here, it will be for takeout.

Went here on a date last night, it was great. Atmosphere is a little grocery storeish, but that seemed to add to its authenticity. Lee started with the hummus and pita appetizer, the bread was great as was the hummus, but they were a little too generous w the olive oil. Also had the lentil soup, which went well beyond my expectations. Had the baked eggplant entre, which was excellent. Would recommend.
Riaz
Very disappointed after reading such positive reviews. First of the the so called fluffy pita was cold dry and cardboard like. Hummus was okay. The mint lemonade was sub par. The rice is good but you don't go to a Mediterranean restaurant for rice. But the lamb chops were good though. I would have been more lenient in my rating if the others had just given it an average rating. For a city like St. Louis definitely disappointing.

I've been bringing people to The Vine on a pretty regular basis since I moved to STL 4 years ago and it has never disappointed. They have a great variety of Mediterranean dishes and it always tastes so fresh. The portion sizes for entrees are pretty large, I usually split it with someone. Their fries are addicting, the seasoning is amazing! Do yourself a favor and order a piece of baklava after dinner, you won't regret it!
Ashley H.
Without a doubt one of the best restaurants on south grand. Food is amazing, must try! I have never been disappointed. They just renovated and it looks even better than before!
Chelsea Anna
The food is fantastic, and the prices are quite a steal for what you get. I ordered a falafel wrap that was around $4, so I was expecting something small and therefore got a side of fries (my friend and I also split lebanese nachos for an appetizer). The wrap was not only huge, but incredibly delicious. I was delightfully full and could not finish anything I ordered.

The service is a little slow, but as long as you're in good company it's not too bad. I'll definitely be back and recommending it to all of my friends.

Great food! excellent service. Head a great time family setting best food and service on grand
Stldude4fun
Great Food, wonderful service and atmosphere!. This place is great! The food has good spice, the atmosphere is wonderful, the pita breads are freshly baked and the waiters have always been welcoming. I like spicy so my personal favorite is the Sjuk. Only draw back was the cardamon tea used ground cardamon spice instead of real green cardamon seeds to flavor.

Working hours mentioned in website are NOT correct. We (me and my husband) read so many great reviews here about this restaurant and planned a late night dinner on a Saturday night but were disappointed. When we got there at 10:15 pm, the server told us that they had closed at 10:00 pm . We had checked the official website of this restaurant and it said working hours were till midnight and kitchen was open till 11:00 pm (Thursday through Saturday). Also Urbanspoon and other websites mentions this as a late-night restaurant open till 12:00 am. Anyway, I had been craving about mediterranean food for some weeks and those plans for the night were spoilt. We called the restaurant after double checking the website, and the receptionist told us that the website has not been updated and the hours mentioned are for the summer. C'mon, its mid Jan, how long are you gonna wait before updating?! ! wouldn't go there without calling and confirming the next time!

Good Every Time!. Being the food snob that I am, I wished that I could find something bad to say about the food, prices and service but I can't. Oh and the consistency of all of the above. This is my third time at The Vine and it was just as good as the first time I ate here. Even friends that I've brought along have enjoyed it. Can't go wrong with The Vine!

stlfoodsnob

Portions too large & service too friendly!. O.k., I'll admit to being a snob about Eastern Mediterranean food. So what if the prices are low, the food delicious, and the menu authentic? Where's the rudeness, where's the snobbery? How dare they be friendly and welcoming. For god's sake people, stay away or the service may even be faster!
Anyway, the Vine is now on my "must take friends" list.
Alex Elzein
The service and food was excellent! Megan our server, was the best!!!!
Kab
Good. The service is incredibly slow but the food is definitely worth the wait.

It was good but it's changed and the cashier playing with the price

Great food and sides. I always enjoy The Vine! I particularly love their lentil soup and baba ganoush - both are creamier than some versions and just so flavorful. Shrimp dishes and meat entrees also great. I suggest looking elsewhere for falafel though- I've ordered it twice and found it a bit dry and bland both times. Fries are deliciously seasoned, more potato-y than crispy

They're sometimes understaffed during peek hours, but I've had extremely friendly service recently.
Taylor N. Martin
Appetizer grape leaves. It wasn't stuffed with much rice or vegetables but the hummus and falafel we ordered was phenomenal!! Will definitely go back!
Katy Mike
Don't expect attentive waitstaff. Do expect good falafel.
Pamela Jean
Small place but cozy. The beef shawarma was fantastic, baba ganough was very good also. Everything came out hot and fresh. No alcohol served so if you're looking for wine, this isn't your place.

Don't believe the hype.. I have no idea how this place is getting good reviews. It is cramped and dirty (actually saw an employee pick up dough scraps off the kitchen floor then go back to preparing food), the service was sub-par, and the food (even the stuff labeled spicy) was bland. It was $11 for a dish that was basically a chopped potato on top of a cup of rice. Also, the coffee (at $4 for about 4 ounces) was the absolute worst coffee I've ever had in my life. All of the coffee drinkers at our table agreed.

Great place, wonderful food!

The food was excellent, the service needs to be improved. It seemed that a party of 8 with kids was not welcome.

Great food. I have been to The Vine three times. The first time was about a year ago on a Sunday after a church service. It was wonderful, the restaurant wasn't busy the pitas were fresh, the hummus is fresh, the food and service were fantastic.
Second time; about two weeks ago. the food was great, service was okay. we sat around for a while with our cups empty. It was nice not having someone come to the table every three minutes though.
Third time; this past Monday, The manager was our server. I know he was busy but three other tables who came in before us got their food before us. Our appetizers came out promptly and were delicious. We finally got our main course and ate. After eating we werent approached for about 15 minutes, after another server coming to our table to help us. I asked about a hookah. They said no because of the rain three hours earlier. The patio was dry. So after getting a no to the hookah we asked her for our check. It took literally 20 minutes to get our check, waited 15 minutes for someone to grab our checks and another 10 to get our cards back. We were there for an HOUR AFTER EATING,WAITING. Granted it was really busy, but the service was ludicrous.

Overall still a great place to eat, but I might just call in my order next time and eat at home.
Victor Najduch
Best shawarma sandwich in the city, hands down.
Matt Leigh
Great Place. Took my daughter there for dinner. We both enjoyed our dishes. The place is very busy, which is a good sign. Not the fanciest place, but the prices are very affordable. I will definitely be back.
Christi Wilson Rhodes
Delicious!!!!!. I have never had a bad experience here!!! The food is awesome!! My favorite is the Babaganoush and Pita bread appetizer and the Chicken Kafta with basmati rice. The servings are huge for the price. My husband and I always eat here everytime we are in St Louis.
Jen-x
My boyfriend took me here today and it was remarkable. I thought I hated falafel but it turns out I've never had good falafel until this place. There salad was very unique and I love the fried pita chips. I got the kafta kabob and I live whatever they seasoned the rice with! Didn't know they had smoothies so know I will def have to go back and check those out
Maryam
Is the best

Very good. Was traveling through St. Louis and read the other reviews. This was the best middle eastern food that I have eaten. (I eat at a lot of middle eastern restaurants) The portions are very filling, and the taste was excellent. Great service and atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Best Restaurant I've Been too!. Last Friday I was at the vine with my Wife and Mother in law. The food was superb, the service was amazing considering it was Jam packed and people were in line out the door. We ordered traditional lebanese appetizers before we dived in the delicious chicken shawarma, Mediterranean Kabob, and Sujok (traditional spicy lebanese sausage). This place was deffinetly a success.
Kayleigh Koester
Delicious food! Only mildly familiar with Mediterranean cuisine, our waitress was wonderful and offered recommendations and suggestions. Only warning- we ordered 2 appetizers & 1 entree between the two of us and had TONS of food. The bill was very reasonably priced but we certainly brought home leftovers!
SH
Great food- terrible service. I have been to the vine on many occasions and love the food. I am sure you would be hard pressed to find food that is so fresh and well prepared in St. Louis, but I am always turned off by the service including the female manager, usually there on Friday nights. I will say that one member of the staff is continually outstanding and he is not even a server. He brings you water and your menus when you sit down and he comes back to check on your table several times throughout the meal because your server will not.
Sarah.antoinette
Loved it!. My husband and I went to the Vine this Friday. We were craving mediterranean food, and did not leave disappointed! The food was incredibly good and fresh tasting. My husband had the Chicken/beef Schwarma sandwich, and I had the appetizer sampler. I got hummus, felafel, kibbeh and grape leaves. We both agreed the grape leaves were the best we'd had, and the pita was out of this world good (our server even brought it out with the hummus before the rest of our food, because she was excited to serve it hot from the oven:). We had enough to take home and munch on the next day, and our whole meal was only around $20. Great service as well...in and out in about an hour on a Friday night is no small feat. We'll definitely be back!
Robust
Worst service ever-- took more than 45 mins to just get the side order..even then the staff dint seem to be apologetic at all... Incompetent and rude staff.
Chris Hartley
The food is awesome. They have the best falafel and some of the best fries I've ever had. It's all inexpensive too. The lebnah, baba ganoush, and hummus are all out of this world.
Janell
Great Flavors!. I figured it was about time that I wrote a review since I've eaten at the Vine on more than one occasion. What I greatly enjoy is that the flavors in the things I've had blend together beautifully. Everything I've had has been fresh and satisfying. So far, I've eaten a variety of desserts along with falafels, hummus, zatar, their salads, etc. When I tasted their falafel sandwich, my search ended. I haven't found anyone to match it or come close yet. Their prices are great in comparison. I do wish they had more variety as far as the fresh fruit drinks that they offer.
Nette
Food GREAT service not so much. I have eaten here several times. The food and prices are AMAZING but the service is lacking. The staff is a big disappointment for such a great place but the food makes it worth it.
FooDer
Top notch. Have eaten here 3 or 4 times, and been very pleased every time. I always go for the baba ganoush and the chicken shawarma--both delicious and relatively inexpensive. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants on south grand.
Banjaran
HORRIBLE Service. Great food, awesome patio, yummy smoothies, good hookah.... WORST SERVERS EVER. I seriously would not complain if the servers were just okay, but they really sucked. It wasn't just our server. I watched the other tables wait and be ignored. The waitresses on the patio last night were impersonal, unfriendly, and in a rush... to get back to the kitchen to chit-chat. Seriously. The food was so awesome, but this will not be a place we will frequent until they do something about their servers. Ridiculous.
C'wise
Bad bad bad horrible waiter gave us a very service. Good food.
Marisa
The Vine is now on my favorites list! I went to lunch with two friends on Sunday. We had the hummus and falafel appetizers to start. Both were good and I loved the fluffy pita. But we were amazed by the lunch specials! We ordered two beef shawarma and one chicken. The beef was tender with some delicious crispy edges on a bed of perfectly cooked rice. The scent was amazing! Portions were very generous (I had enough leftover for one meal, maybe two) and it came with my choice of salad. Overall, great place doing it right!
Dude Dudington
Dazamn Good!. The vine is redonkulous. If you like good food you will like the vine. If you like bad food don't go to the vine. Eat some hummus like a boss, then have some falafel sandwich with tzatziki like an even bigger boss. It's delicious, trust me. I'm some guy on the web. Some hotties be workin' there too. Go to the vine.
Avery Foster
Microwaved chicken shawarma. I am a regular at this place but today, January 11, 2012, I ordered my ususal lunch dish - hummus deluxe with chicken shawarma and instead of getting a warm dish of hummus with recently shaved slices of delicious chicken shawarma I got a cold plate of hummus with hard pieces of chicken shawarma was that were obviously microwaved pieces of day old chicken. This is a joke - you lost a regular customer.
Angela 'Amana' Williams
That was the best Falafel I ever had!!! Yummers.
Marty
Fresh, authentic, wonderful. A friend and I shared "small" portions of several things--hummus and homemade pita, falafel, yogurt salad, and tabbouleh. For dessert, we split a delicious house-made date and coconut confection, and shared a pot of cardamon tea. All this food--some of which had to be packaged to take home--for under $20. What seemed like "small plates" as some places would refer to it, was more food than two of us could eat in one sitting. Delicious, freshly prepared food at a very reasonable price. All was wonderful, and the server was extremely nice and very helpful. The hookah thing seems gimmicky--I don't know--never mind that. This is a find. Can't wait to go back and try some other things.

Great Food, Great Value!!!!. I have been a chef for over 25 years, and have a great love of mediterranean food, I went this past weekend to The Vine for dinner with my wife and two kids, we had a blast! We were greeted by a friendly waitress named Sara who was terrific with my two young children as my wife and I looked over the menu. She helped us find some great things that were kid friendly (minature "pizzas" in a variety of cheese, meat and veg combinations). My wife had the Fatoush salad with shrimp (another great recommendation... THANKS SARA!) it was a plentiful and appealing salad with lots of perfectly seasoned and well cooked shrimp and loads of green vegetables with a light but great tasting dressing. I had the Lebanese Hamburger...and I gotta tell ya.. it is one of the best burgers I have had in town. It was big juicy and cooked perfectly. Topped with homemade slaw and great pickles and tomato, I didnt even need Ketchup it was seasoned so well. The burger was served with "mediterranean fries" that were seasoned with some great spices and sea salt. It was also served on a home made bun!!!!!! WELL DONE FOLKS! The hummus was terrific and came with more delicious home made bread that was still warm from the oven! all of this and we managed to feed the four of us for less than $30 including TIP! A great place to explore some new and wonderful food. Thanks for being in the south grand neighborhood, places like yours make it such a great place to live in St Louis!

Loved the Falafel hated everything else.. Ok me and my husband had never been here. We felt like we visited another country. For some, that might be ok, however, this is America and this place is right in the middle of the hood. ALOT of women walking the streets in muslim attire. I was VERY uncomfortable. Maybe we just dont get out much but me and my hubbie are just country white people that just wanted a nice greek meal. Well this place is lebonese NOT greek. Ok my bad. It was a filthy looking dive. The waitress was being bossed around by an ogre and was literally waiting tables, answering the food, getting the food, checking people in and out and the boss yelling at her in front of customers.
The place was nestled in btwn hookah lounges and honestly I didnt realize this area was a hooka STREET.. if you know what I mean. I swear the apts above must be a chain of cat houses. I literally saw two hookers pass my car. AND THIS IS LUNCH TIME lol wow.. all I can say is WOW. Anyways. the tables were filthy when we got seating and still had wet rings from the prior glasses. I just over all was appauled that this was how we accidently spent our anniversary. Oh and i HATED their stuffed grape leaves. And that was one of the main things I went for. They were flat and tasteless. The baklava was over priced. They had no gyros.. ok so I really wanted greek food. I asked for some tabouli to take home and of all things she didnt pack it well and it went ALL over my back seat. /sighs. Im sorry.. it was just the worst experience in a VERY long time for me.
Angela Marie Barker
Good food iffy service. The food was great. The babaganoush was the best ever. The lamb was cooked perfect. The service well it sucked. Had a younger guy who was at best aloof and pretty snobby. Will go back and just ask for a different server.
David
Healthiest and Tastiest Bang for the Buck. I love the Vine. I'm a vegetarian and the options are very good. And if you are a meateater, you're very much in luck. The Vine burger is unique and excellent, has lamb in it. And since the Vine is also a bakery, you won't pita bread more fresh than here, and pastries are to die for. They could charge twice as much and still be a great value, but the cost is more like McDonald's. The wait staff is excellent, too, and now it's time for outside dining including live music with David Certain and his band of merrymakers playing international music. Can't beat the Vine at any price.
Steve Baker
Good stuff! Almost as good as my Mom's! Try the shush tawook!
Il Dolce Far Niente
Where am I?. The setting, service and food whisk you away to a foreign place where the dollar is strong, the coffee is smooth and the food is so delicious.

Go for lunch or dinner and ask for Elisabeth (of the the best servers in St. Louis). She will take care of you.

LOVE IT!!!!!. What can I say except that this humble little place is just perfect. I had stopped buying falafel for years because the tastes that I was getting from different places was wither way to lemony or just not consistent! The vine never fails to please. The owner is very accommodating to the pregnancy cravings that my husband and I have (LOL). Being pregnant, there are many places that I can't go into since the smells make me sick, but not this place. My new favorite spot!
Tom
Deelish!. Came in not knowing what to expect and left full, satisfied, and with assurance we will be back. Pita bread was the best.....baba ganousch was great as was the falafal and makanin sp? sandwiches.....we will be returning!
Gail V.
Perfect Lebanese Food. Their Baba Ganouj was the best I've ever had (including mine); their hummus was extremely smooth and delicious; the falafel was perfect and the dolmas divine! The service was just a tad slow but the food was well worth waiting for. Their chicken kebab was wonderful as well! Best Lebanese in St. Louis so far!

A Great Catering Choice. I have not yet eaten at The Vine Mediterranean Café and Market, but based on my experience yesterday with its catering capabilities, I will be soon. I'm on the board of a nonprofit and volunteered to bring a dish to a gala reception that had a Mediterranean theme. I decided to bring vegetarian dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). A couple of days before the event, I placed my order at The Vine for five pounds of dolmas. When I picked up the order just after The Vine opened on Sunday, the dolmas were ready to go and securely arranged on a tray. As it turns out, we had a great deal of food at the event, and I thought I would be bringing leftover dolmas home with me. Such was not the case: The dolmas almost flew off the platter. Not only that, several people commented on how delicious they were. I managed to eat about five, and I agree with their assessment. Needless to say, when I sit down to a meal at The Vine, I will be sure to order dolmas!

Too slow. Good food, nice waitress but soooo slow......

Great, authentic Mediterranean fare. Great addition to the South Grand ethnic cuisine area.

Middle Eastern Food-Yummmy!!!. Had a lunch business meeting this week with four customers and they LOVED the food and the service was great. Met the owner and was very attentive to our needs. I would highly recommed folks to check this neat little cafe!
Hunter
I love the food and the owner is easy on the eyes.

This is one of my favorite restaurant in St Louis. The food is incredible. The shawermah, falafel, baba ghanoush and hummus are to die for!

When I went there last week I had beef kabob and tabbouleh salad. It was the best kabob I had in the long time, probably since my last trip to Turkey.

I come here very often for lunch and nothing could beat their shawurma sandwich and shishtawook. I love the place.

Awesome tabulie. I have had lots of tabulie salads at family and friends but the vines tabulie is by far the best .

Must have missed something. This was sort of ok at best. We actually left parts of the meal uneaten -. The service was may be average - very weird no good flow. No one ever asked how the meal was - especially when half of it was still on the plate and we asked for the check. the meats were cooked well everything else seem to be from a can.

The idea, concept, location, outdoor seating are all very positive -

First Time Visit. Just had a wonderfully delicious lunch at The Vine Cafe. Food was great, first time enjoying Mediterranean cuisine, but just as important was that the staff was extremely friendly and made great lunch suggestions. We will be back again and again to try the different items on the menu. My wife and I ordered an appetizer and two lunch plates with salad, all for under $25. Do yourself a favor and make the trip to Vine.

Best Falafel -- owners are lovely!!. This is some fantastic food!! As a nice Armenian girl, this place is my version of comfort food -- eggplant, pita, lamb, parsley and onion in everything.

Fantastic!. I was looking for a different place but once I got out of the car, the wonderful smell coming from the The Vine inticed my family and me in. The appetizer sampler was fantastic! The baba ganoush was surperb and the falafels were full of flavo, especially when put in a pice of pita with garlic sauce, parsely, hummous, pickles, and tomoatoes. It all comes with it. The star was the chicken schwarma! It was the closest thing since I was living in the United Arab Emirates in 2003. I added a few french fries and it felt as though I was standing on the side of the street in Abu Dhabi. The Vine's schwarma was very large (we shared) but extremely delicious! I'll definitely be coming back to The Vine soon. Absolutely fantastic!!!!

AWESOME!!. I actually know the owners and workers very well and i know 4 sure tht they make sure that their customers are pleased.

Excellent. Both the falafel and the seasoned beef sandwich that we had were very tasty. The fries were good but a little greasy and not very hot. The Lebanses coffee and the baklava were great. I also tried the pastry that is neon orange and has cheese on the inside. The color was a little off-putting but I enjoyed it very much. We will be back.

The Vine on Grand. No you cannot see the Mediterranean shore from the Cafe' but you might as well pretend that you are in a balmy coastal town surrounded by white-washed houses and blooming vines! The food is authentic (to a fault! I don't know too many Americans who can stomach the yoghurt salad or the super-sweet fruit sodas!)... I used to buy at the deli's when the place was only a grocerie store and was delighted that it turned into a cafe'. The best hummus in town - no doubt about it (not overly garilcked as many seem to do!). The baba-ganoush is respectable. The grape leaves are very delicate and moist. The schwarma to die for! The felafel and kibbi are very tasty.
I miss the savory lentil salad they used to sell at the deli... (hint, hint...).
People are very friendly and the ambiance is intimate, and the prices are quite reasonable for the amount of food they serve.
All in all, a great little find!!!!

Fresh, Filling, Inexpensive. I'm glad we picked the Vine over Mokabe's for lunch. The decor is warm and inviting and the staff is friendly, service was good, if not too terribly prompt.

I recommend the Chicken Schwarma-a Middle European fast food staple. Get it w/ some freshly made hummus and the Mediterranean fries. The small feta/oregano pastries were great too. Share the Rose water drink w/ a friend-it's too sweet to have one by yourself.

The chicken in the Schwarma was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The pickled turnips in it added a needed crunch and color to the dish.

Love It. We go there at least once a week and it is consistently delicious with extremely reasonable prices. Their salads, wraps and fries are all good and the quality of the meat they use is impressive.

Awesome!!!. I have family from the middle east and we tried the food at Vine; the food was awesome and authentic. I am so glad St. Louis has a middle eastern restaurant with food to die for. If you are a healthy eater, middle eastern food is some of the healthiest in the world. In fact I am going back tomorrow bringing my daughter and her friends. They are excited about it.

Great Food Friendly Owner and Staff. If you want to eat healthy and eat great tasting food this is the place for you. Real Food made from scratch. Even my girlfriend likes it a self-proclaimed Food Critic.

VERY good food and service. Nice, small, calm, place. Not all mediterranian restaurants in the area serve real mama-made quality of food. this one does!
The price is reasonable as well.

This place has it all............ My first visit to the new dining room but have been a fan of the deli and shop for awhile.I was thrilled to have the most delicious and authentic of Lebanese delights. The baba ghanoush was smoky and lemony and addictive. We had the appetizer platter and so tried may wonderful mezze. Ali and the ladies serve fresh, outrageously good food and the waiter was a jewel. Shoukran! My favorite spot on S Grand.

Great Food, Warm Sevice. I come form a Lebanese family and the owner of this restaurant really captured the taste and feeling of a Lebanese family. The girl who served us was friendly and had a great seance of hummer! The owner Omar was hospitable and he had is family in the kitchen cooking the meals. It seemed to be a completely family owned and run business. Not to mention the prices where CHEAP! I highly recommend this place!

Hopefully i could talk you into a meal on the house. Thank you .

is it a bribe or date , now i can tell that ((alex )) with 3 reviews about the vine,is just a person who works there ,or maybe the owner himself ??!!!
am guessing all the reviews are made up by same person ;)

-----24 Nov, 2009-----

Salty food and bad service. It's a shame that such a beautiful decor is wasted to a bad restaurant like this. I went there twice and was unimpressed to say the least. I gave it the benefit of the doubt after my first attempt. But to no avail :(. It's simply not worth it.

A Hidden GEM in STL….. A trip to STL would not be complete without a visit to this awesome restaurant. This place serves reasonably priced genuine Middle Eastern "classics" and absolutely delicious pastries, there is something for everyone. Their chicken shwarma sandwich and the falafel sandwich are very authentic and delicious and so is the Chicken Kabob served with grilled seasoned veggies and rice cooked to perfection. It is simply soul food that takes your senses to another place and time. The irresistible Baklava, fresh pita and garlic sauce are enough to make a visit to this place worthwhile. Attentive service, courteous staff and elegant décor all add to the whole experience of eating at The Vine.

Hidden treasure in St.Louis. We visited St.Louis this past weekend and accidently stumbled upon this fabulous restaurant.
The experience was SUPERB, we loved it so much we actually drove back 15miles the next day to enjoy their delicious food again.
The Shawarma , chicken kabob, fresh baked breads, the garlic sauce..... Baklava.....the list goes on... everything we tried was AMAZING.
The place is adorable, the decor beautiful and the people are really friendly.
A charming little cafe, with real soul food....wish we were closer to St.Louis.
Jessica
Adorable! Delicious food for a GREAT price! It's a bit small so it might start to get crowded soon at high volume eating times. The workers are extremely courteous! Highly recommend!!!

The Best Falafel in STL!. Read the title. It's only a glimmer of what you can find at this place. Yes, a falafel sandwich will run you just under $4. And, currently, it's served deli-style so it's a great place for an a-la-carte lunch, but the other offerings are amazing.

At any given time you can take home a good-sized portion of babaganoush, hummus, or (my favorite) tabbouleh along with some fresh pita. Yay garlic!

There are also some specialty items on the menu, like a fried chicken and Lebanese rice, stuffed peppers/zucchini/squash or another tasty treat: dolmas, which are stuffed grape leaves (vegetarian or meaty).

There's something for everyone here. And I can't wait until their cafe finally opens. According to the wonderful staff, the restaurant will have a falafel bar, a bakery (bread and sweets) and in the summer months, The Vine will offer hookah on their patio.

One thing I didn't mention was how good a value The Vine is. Their sandwiches are all around the $5 mark, and the chicken kafta dish, while double that price, was enough food to satiate nearly any appetite. I cannot speak to the market or hookah aspects of The Vine, but as far as the food, there's a reason why each time I've been the place has been full of customers. It's going to be hard for me not to just get the tabouli and fries sandwich every time....but maybe I'll just order it as an appetizer on my next visit.

As much as we enjoy fine dining, we also take particular pleasure in finding a small ethnic restaurant that stands out. South Grand is Restaurant Row for candidates these days, and we have a(nother) winner. The Vine Mediterranean Cafe and Market offers lots of hits and very few misses. Yes, there's a market next door (and when it's cold, a sign encourages you to use its door for entry, to keep cold drafts from freezing those diners sitting near the cafe entrance), with lots of interesting groceries and halal meat. In addition, the contents of bakery and deli cases serve as coming attractions for taking extra fun home for tomorrow. Things are often hopping, even early in the week, and many customers seem to be regulars. Like so many of the countries bordering the Mediterranean, the Lebanese food featured at the Vine offers lots of appetizer-type dishes, which means those who enjoy the small-plates style of dining will be pleased. For example, hummus is pale and silky-smooth, tasting of
