Review Canyon Cafe - Saint Louis

Constance Johnson
I wanted chicken fajitas but was told they use cilantro in their black beans and rice. I love black beans but not cooked with cilantro. I couldn't eat any of the dishes served I like because of cilantro being in it. I was truly disappointed. I ended up ordering a cheese bacon burger on an over size cheddar cheese bun. The burger was delicious being cooked on a charcoal grilled, but not what I usually order at a Mexican restaurant. The other guests at my table enjoyed their Mexican style foods.

Up scale Mexican food and drinks in Frontenac. Food and drinks are tasty with a colorful presentation. Chips are super tasty with sweet potato chips mixed in.

Great food, great atmosphere! The crispy tacos were full of flavor and delicious! The queso dip is top tier.

We met family here from out of town and it was an enjoyable experience. We only waited ten mins with no reservation. Drinks are awesome and cheap for top shelf quality. The appetizers were plenty for 6 people. Our entrees arrived and everything was tasty and plated nicely. Our server was professional and gave great service. Parking was right outside the restaurant.

This was fancy. The food was good, and the table chips they provide are actually some of the best chips I’ve ever had. The food was great and service was too. I can’t knock it because it was exceeded my expectations, but I will say the price tag seemed steep.

Don’t skip the chips! I can’t imagine anyone can get to the 2nd “limit 2” margarita either! Food is consistently good. They have a little outdoor seating but it’s always full when we go. They aren’t as full as they were pre-covid for sure and I know staffing is hard — but everyone we’ve gotten here has been too notch.

Good food and service and an interesting Mexican ambience. We tried salmon salad and tortilla soup and found them tasty. It may not be your healthiest restaurant as some of the chips were deep fried. The soup could be less salty.

Great food one of the best entrees I've had in a long time . The waitress (Shayna) was extremely helpful and friendly . I was so impressed with her going above and beyond her job duties. I will definitely be asking for her again. The staff was also gracious and friendly walked around multiple times asking about the food. You can really tell they take alot of pride in their food and service. We can't wait to come back and this already became one of our favorite restaurants in St.Louis.

Met my friends there for lunch and we didn't want to leave. Food is DELICIOUS! Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable about menu, fast, neat (she moved the many extra dishes from our table as we finished each thing), professional, and very courteous.

The service is horrible. Ive come here several times as I work in the area and it’s convenient. Every time I come the service is just lacking. Often, they will drop off a water and then wait between 15-30 min to actually take your food order. Most of the time when it’s slow the employees are in their phones not paying attention and you often have to flag down other people who aren’t your server. The service staff overall is just lazy and does not pay attention to the customers. They never check back with their tables and often ignore them and asking for the check is a very lengthy process. The food is mediocre. It’s not bad but often it’s bland and just average. Not what you’d expect for the price. Often times the staff will forget things that you ordered and you won’t get those items.

Fajitas were delicious. Server was very polite and attentive. Deserved a good tip! Some tables out by shopping area, which was a bit strange.

The manager todg was amazing and our server Kareem was fantastic. My cousin said this place has the best margarita in the STL area. Highly recommend this place.

Ok Tex Mex, unfortunately it does not separate itself from the pack. Server did a good job and woth stopping in, if you are at Plaza Frontenac

It was fine. I had the Adovo Chicken Pasta. I get the feeling that they buy big bags of chicken that is precut into strips and then frozen. Which is...fine. Maybe it's even $19 fine, considering you get chips and salsa with your meal. Those are pretty good, by the way. Seasoned nicely. I'm sure their lease ain't cheap in Frontenac so I guess they're doing what they can. Not sure if this applies to their other clientele, but I would personally spend a couple more dollars for chicken that hasn't been frozen. Service was good.

Pretty good food. Decent service. I disagree with some of the 1-star reviews. It is a perfectly fine spot for dinner if you want some Tex-Mex. Fajitas were good. Crab cake was okay. Soup was good. Queso was good. Beer was cold.

Have been coming here for years and am so happy it continues to thrive. Most recent visit was before a movie, ( just walk up stairs!) and CC gets five stars. Our hostess was able to reserve a table for 6 which was nice as timing important to make a movie. Our gentleman server offered up the same happy hour specials available in the bar which prompted me to have a margarita and some amazing, very fresh and flavorful guacamole. Their chips are unique and even have some variety including a sweet potato chip and special chips for my pal with celiac. I had a bowl of the chicken chowder which was off the charts amazing. Pals had a variety of other tantalizing offerings and we all left full and happy. Separate checks no big deal and every one gets an after dinner chocolate wrapped in a tortilla. Well done Canyon Cafe team!
