Review Russell's On Macklind - Saint Louis

Flavorful and delicious food. Cooked with love and care. Good service and nice atmosphere. One note to the restaurant would be to offer half portions as the full portions are truly massive and this limits me from ordering several dishes. Will definitely be coming back for more. My only negative would be that the cocktails were a bit too sweet for me and did not mirror the excellent quality of the food.

Everything was wonderful as always. Every brunch item we ordered was perfect. Love the dog-friendly patio. Just a great place to enjoy a meal.

Service was amazing, dinner entrees were huge portions and home cooked style and amazingly delicious. Deserts where large portions and just as delicious as dinner HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Delicious! The grilled french toast was perfect. I love that it wasn’t soggy and that the condiments were on the side. You definitely need to make a reservation a few weeks in advance. Very cute atmosphere. Would definitely return!

Great farm to table experience. Service, atmosphere and food were excellent.

Trish at the upstairs bar was the BEST. she was able to walk us through the menu as well as help us make decisions that matched our specific food requirements, ended all of it with a smile, and genuinely seemed happy to help. It doesn’t hurt that the food with some of the best breakfast food that I’ve had in a very long time

Spectacular food and drinks for dinner, breakfast, and everything in between! Went for a dinner date and had an amazing meal. So good we went back for breakfast the next day. Wonderful staff. A warm and inviting atmosphere in a two story restaurant with plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. An endless selection of desserts. Street parking only.

Great for brunch! They also have a great selection of bakery treats and cakes. We ordered the Cinnamon roll to share, the three of us could not finish it, it was huge! The quiche was also super tasty and fresh. Will try this place again for dinner for sure but brunch was a win. The restaurant is small so I would recommend a reservation.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Russell's about two months ago. Russell's has always been a special place for our family and we were so excited to have our wedding here! While you may know Russell's for their amazing food/drinks (which they are amazing!!!!!), the restaurant is stunning and each and every staff member went above and beyond to make our day special! I've never been to a wedding where guests are asking for to-go boxes because the food is just THAT GOOD. We are so grateful for Russell's and their amazing staff. If you've never thought of holding your special event here, think again! We would recommend this place over and over.

A cool brisk morning, and a touch of mist engulfed our chilled bodies as we briskly sped up to get to the front door and enter. A flower truck just outside that instantly warm your heart. As you enter a warm and friendly welcome, and a plethora of smells that just wrap themselves around ya! Seating is proportional and the service is amaaazing! Attentive and courteous. Let me not forget the sweet treats and delights you can take home, excuse as I wipe the drool away…….please do enjoy the photos and if you are in the area, I invite you to thoroughly enjoy! Bed wishes and take care.

Lots of options to choose from: cookies, gooey butter bars, a few different types of cheesecakes, muffins, brownies, coffee, etc. You can tell they make everything from scratch. I tried the cheesecake and it was pretty good! Light and fluffy, and the rich caramel sauce on top was the best part. 👌🏼 A little small inside, but they have outdoor seating which is nice. The servers were very kind and sweet. If you're looking for decent baked goods in the area, definitely give them a try!

I'm just going to be straightforward and honest: The cocktails and the Lola Jean’s Egg Sandwich were pretty pretty prettyyyyy good. 😋 😍🍴 The sandwich had the perfect combination of flavors with every bite. The place was pretty busy, so ordering took awhile, and it was difficult to find our server at times, especially when we were trying to get the check so we could pay. It was only my first time eating here so I'm not complaining/understand things get busy. The food and drinks were worth the wait. I was definitely impressed/wanting to go back soon.

We’d been to the Fenton location a few times for baked goods, but hadn’t had lunch or dinner from either Russell’s location. Fun vibe on the inside. Our waitress was super friendly and very attentive - mega quick with refills and very helpful with suggestions. My wife opted for the espresso brunch cocktail (which includes rum and cream). She liked it very much. The iced tea is fresh too. My wife ordered the flatbread breakfast pizza and was very pleased with her choice. My sunrise sourdough breakfast sandwich was overflowing with bacon and eggs - super tasty! I opted for the home fries and was not disappointed. We also grabbed several goodies from the counter before we left (including a bear claw, peach cobbler and more). We’d gladly return for lunch or dinner. :-)

Food is always fantastic. Service is friendly and welcoming; my go to restaurant for brunch or dinner. Their desserts are outstanding--get one to go because you're going to be full by the end of the meal!

Best Gooey Butter Cake in St.Louis, from Orginal flavor to Chocolate Chip, Lemon Curd, Triple Berry and more. Homemade Carrot Cake, Cheesecakes. Brownies, Cookies, Giant Coconut covered in Chocolate Macrons. This place is one of the best bakeries & restaurants in our lovely city if you need brunch, lunch or dinner don't forget dessert. Another stop at my favorite bakery. This time bought a few different desserts, Cherry Gooey Butter cake and old family recipe Carrot Cake along with Turtle Brownies. Update when I taste them.

Our favorite place for brunch! You can't go wrong with any of their menu items.

I visited the place for some gooey butter cake, which I have heard a lot about. The cake was definitely something very unique and different. It had a good crust at the bottom, mild softness on top, with full of gooey ness in the center. Russell’s ambience was really good, and a lot of fresh dessert options. They have fresh cookies with icing served in a tray, fresh batch ones. They have street parking, so plan for finding a spot and walking to the place!

If you are looking for a cozy, neighborhood café, that offers top quality entrees and desserts; Russell’s is a must! The charming atmosphere accompanied by the extensive range of pastries and menu options will have anyone dying to come back, time and time again. Having been to Russell’s for lunch and brunch twice, this spot has become a favorite. For lunch, we ordered the Baked Potato soup and the Turkey, Gruyère, and Bacon sandwich, both served with locally made GOAT Chips. We also ordered a slice of their Lemon and Buttercream cake and Bourbon Chocolate cake. Both were delicious and left us wanting more. So, we had to stop by the pastry counter and order some to go! For brunch, I ordered the loaded French Toast with the most delicious brioche bread, with a side of house made whipped cream and lemon curd. Highly recommend this restaurant. Be sure to make reservations for their weekend brunch and dinner services! They book up quickly!

Excellent food. Excellent service. What a great place to have in our neighborhood! Only wonder is why this place isn’t always on the St Louis Top 50 restaurant list.
Went there on a Thursday for lunch. The place is small but it was crowded which is a good sign. Great food, great service but holy crap it is loud in there. I mean I had to almost shout across the table to the person I was sitting with so she could hear me. There were less than 30 customers there and it sounded like a packed bar on a Saturday night. If you don't mind screaming like you're at a rock concert, the food is well worth it.

We walked in and managed to get a table without a long wait at around 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening. The whole place filled up in around half an hour after that. The atmosphere was wonderful. The service was fast, our server was attentive and very nice. The burger and the brussel sprouts were a little over cooked but still good. The flourless chocolate torte was rich and so sartisfying! Great place for breakfast, brunch, lunch or a date night. The patio looked magical, we are planning to go back on a warmer night to enjoy the fire pit with some wine.

Came in asking how long the wait was for an impromptu group of 8 on a busy night. Understandably it was a long wait, 1-1.5hrs, and while waiting we were discussing going some where else with a possible shorter wait. While discussing, what looked like a manager, pointedly told us to consider the Jack In the Box. So in other words, G.T.F.O. Not too happy about being to get the fuck out when we were all willing to spend good money.

By far one of my favorite places. The atmosphere, the food, the staff... It's all great. Perfect for a date night, girls night out or brunch on a Sunday. They have a lunch special that you can get two half sandwiches so great way to try more than one item. They're specials are so creative & their cakes... Where do I begin!! They have a great selection from sandwiches, bakery items, cocktails, apps & dinner entrees. The new bar upstairs is very posh, there's a fire pit outside.. Overall one of my favorite places to eat in St. Louis. I am a regular there!

Excellent place for brunch or lunch. Farm to table concept. They have incredible looking pastries, I didn't eat any but will be back to give them a try. The sandwich I chose was unique, fresh and delicious. The price point is excellent.

I got the sunrise on sourdough because I'm a sucker for sourdough. It was pretty simple but tasty. Came with fruit. The iced latte I got was very good though.

Okay, so I didn't technically eat at this restaurant. I stopped by last weekend on lunch break with co-workers to see a mutual friend that now works there. It was a Sunday around 1:30p and the place was packed! The line of people waiting for the table stretched the length of the restaurant and apparently had been out the door earlier that morning! Obviously, this place is a little bit popular. For these reasons, we didn't get to eat there. However, being the foodie that I am (and a foodie with a BIG sweet tooth) I picked our friends' brain about the options. After looking at all the beautiful treats that were on display, I was surprised to realize that of all the options, it was a cake that was calling my name. I'm extremely picky about my cakes and they are not my go-to sweet. But this cake was about 8 in. tall, involved more than one flavor and had the perfect cake to icing ratio (about 55% cake and 45% icing). The cake: chocolate. The inside layers of icing: whipped cream. The outside layer of icing: cinnamon buttercream. The finishing touch: a layer of chocolate ganache! Guys, this cake was everything I wanted! Great texture - moist and firm cake, light whipped cream and dense buttercream?! And then those flavors! The rich chocolate from the cake and ganache with the layer of cinnamon creaminess that adds a punch of flavor contrast?!? This place clearly knows what it's doing! I need to go back pronto! Apparently they also have about five different versions of gooey butter cake, and according to the barista, the peanut butter is the best....I'll take his word for it!

Extremely pleasant patio area, kind staff, delicious coffee, tasty food, welcoming atmosphere for social or work time ... no wonder people told me this place was wonderful. It is.

This is one of my favorite places. I eat there at least once a week. Sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. At most restaraunts i order the same thing everytime. Not here. I rotate between 6 or 7 things because i love it all so much.

Love, Love!. Oh my, oh my! What did I stumble upon. I was in the area doing some volunteer work and one of the other volunteers suggested getting lunch here. Wow! 1st off, everything on the menu sounds good. It took some time for me to decide, luckily, the line was long enough for me to make choice. I settled on the Chicken and Gouda (hot sandwich) w/the Peach Sangria and a Chocolate Chip cookie. By far one of the best Sangria's i've had in a long time! The sandwich was soo good, i ate it slowly to savor each bite. The cookie, yes and yes! Thank you Russell's! You'll see me several times.

Our absolute favorite restaurant. We discovered Russells on Mackind about four months ago and have been there almost every week (sometimes twice) since. Everything is amazing there. My very favorite (for now) is the pulled pork sandwich, and we love to try whatever special is on the list. Brunch is awesome-- biscuits with fresh butter and fruit spread-- off the charts good, great quiche combinations, flatbreads....
You really can't go wrong here and there are choices for everyone.
Highly recommended!

Dinner on the patio at Russell's!. Yum! Double pork chop with corn and sweet potato hash. Old-fashioned farm food with lots more flavor than my grandma's! Great red wines by the glass. Awesome, friendly staff!

C'mon.... ....just have gluten free bread in the facility - if you aren't going to offer GF goodies (which you could certainly do) - at least have some options besides salad.... there are plenty of places in STL that offer GF bread and you guys really should be on top of this....

Undecided. Service was good, bakery items looked good-but did not try. Sandwiches came in large portions, but tasteless, and over priced. May try the bake goods some time, however not in a rush to return.

I love this place. So many great sandwich choices and other items. I highly recommend the breakfast flatbread. It comes with a little salad on top. Also check out the bakery case for their delicious layered cakes. My favorite is the port wine torte. This will definitely be a weekly spot especially when the weather is nice so I can sit on their patio!

Won't be back. We have ordered a few carry outs because they are always so busy, which is not a problem since we live so close. The problem has been getting the order wrong every time. Today it was not getting our $7.00 bowl of soup. Last time it was Swiss on a sandwich I asked for no cheese, before that it was getting the wrong sandwich all together and the first time was ordering a sandwich on a wrap but it came on bread. From the looks of things they will not miss it but my money will be spent elsewhere.

Feel like I've been kicked out of my house each day this week, because of some reconstruction (that is good) Better news is, I've found a place of refuge just a block away! The coffee is as strong as you need, gorgeous pastries, delicious variety of breakfast sandwiches and a toasty warm fireplace for these chilly spring mornings. Can't wait to try some lunch/snack options! Very friendly welcome from all.Welcome to SoHo!

Amazing place for brunch and dinner. Try the Cheese Puffs! Date Posted: Jul 15, 2014 Category: Brunch , New American , Wine Bar Address: 5400 Murdoch Ave St Louis, MO 63109 Christine and I love living in St. Louis, especially in our neighborhood in South City. Every evening there are people walking their dogs, people tending to their yards, and plenty of nice places to eat and drink with a lot of variety. One of our first visits after our move from West County was Russell’s on Macklind. Oatmeal Raisin Cookies We thought maybe it was just a coffee cafe at first, and it does serve Kaldi’s coffee, but it is also part gastro pub, part wine bar, and part something else entirely. Blueberry Muffins Russell’s looks small and cramped upon first entering, the free area filled with tables and the bar area filled with pastries and coffee, but they have a huge back patio area that can seat many people and their four-legged friends.
