The Saddle River Inn

The food is excellent and the service is superior. If you want a place to celebrate a special occasion, this is it. There are many great restaurants in the north Jersey area, but this place is the best. We usually go for our anniversary, birthdays or when we just want to have a romantic time. It is quiet and dim setting in a perfect Bergen County setting. Our favorite restaurant.

I have never been so disappointed in a dining experience in my life. Where do I begin? First of all, we had no choice but to sit outside in the make shift tent, that looked like a “glorified” pizza place. Zero Ambiance, and when you think you’re dining at a 5 star restaurant like this, you would expect way more! Secondly, the service was terrible. I had to ask multiple times for water, 3 different times for lemon, and the wait staff was just not up to par. Thirdly, the food was awful. From start to finish, just awful. Overly seasoned, very average and overpriced. My husband owns 14 restaurants and is in the industry so we were absolutely appalled at our overall dining experience here!!! Did not even have dessert which is usually our favorite but we were so disgusted by that time we skipped it and ran out. One star for this overrated place that used to be amazing back in the day years ago. Very sad to see!!! Save your $$ and go elsewhere.

Our latest foray to the Saddle River Inn was a mixed bag. Seated in their outside tent, the floor covered with leaves and debris, the mood was somewhat lacking, though there is more light in the tent than inside the barn. The food ranged from good to excellent in taste, and the presentation was as usual hit or miss - in particular the Cheesecake Mousse needs to be presented differently, though it was absolutely delicious. The service has deteriorated since last year, which is unfortunate. Overall, worth 4 stars for the restaurant itself. The extra star being deducted here is due to the surprise credit card surcharge which they have now added. This is not something disclosed until you get the bill, and it is not visible on their website - pretty underhanded, actually.
