Review Le Bonne Soupe - Sacramento

Best soup and sandwich shop in Sacramento . cafe food, yeah, my preferred treat. Great place to chill, get away, eat some good food. This place has a cool feel to it. One of my top locations for quality Cafe food. super place to meet and chat with coworkers. Great place with consistently excellent sandwiches, soups and salads. The owner is great and his staff is very nice. Amazing food restaurant.

The salmon and prosciutto sandwich was delicious! The French onion soup was good also. I tried the Turkey gumbo my fiance ordered because he wasn't eating as fast as usual. It was ok, nothing to rave about. But I liked the atmosphere of the venue. The sandwich portions are small so you may want to order a side to fill you up. I'd compare it to the size of a costco hotdog, but WAY tastier. I'll definitely be back for that sandwich.

Delicious! Had the La roulade de canard fume Smoked Duck, a duck with Hatch green chilies and a cheese with chili soup. Cant wait for lunch here again soon!

I had a hard time not giving 5 stars here. I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed with the food nor the device. Food is always FANTASTIC. Ingredients are fresh and local, bread is baked in house, soups are phenomenal. There is very limited seating and the line gets long during lunch hours so I recommend coming a little early. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the price. For a soup and sandwich you are looking at about $20. Not that it isn't worth it....I think it totally is... It's just pricey. All in all, I love this place and constantly recommend it for those that can afford it 😉

I've been here on a few occasions and I love the place. The new (not really new anymore but different owners since Chef Daniel) owners are amazing and they make classic French dishes that will not disappoint. I had the Duck Pate and Brie sandwich today with the Blue Crab Bisque. Oh wow it was delicious! My two year old loved the soup! I have also had the French Onion and it is very good as well. Great cafe! I will be going there often!

Great restaurant. I got the duck sandwich and my beautiful wife got the Pate sandwich. We are both please and both will get married here. No but seriously Services got enough food is good. There was also live music at lunch time. I like the location as well. Very clean, I just wish my sandwiches was a little bigger

This place has excellent soups and sandwiches. The sandwiches are all made with really high quality ingredients and are just plain delicious. One of the really good ones has melty brie and fig. If you can't make up your mind and want to try multiple sandwiches, you can ask super nicely and the chef will make a half and half sandwich. And don't forget the soups! Perfect on a chilly day and sometimes a nice cold soup on a hot day. The place is tiny though so you might not find a place to sit, which is fine if you're just getting a sandwich.

WOW! Even though I've worked at Park Tower across the street from this place for 3-1/2 years, today was my first visit! After tasting the soups I got (tomato basil and cream of mushroom with truffle oil) I'm thinking to myself - WHY MAN! Why haven't I been coming here for YEARS!! The soup selection was off the charts (six or so different varieties, which is why I got two - and apparently they change). The sandwiches look amazing too! DEFINITELY will be visiting many more times!

I had the potato jalapeno cheddar soup and my boyfriend had the French onion soup. Both were crazy good. The cafe was cozy and casual. There was live music, the musician played very relaxing melodic tunes. Nice views of the the park across the street.

La Bonne. Another staple in my previous couple of months of traveling to Sacramento. Introduced to me by a dear associate, we concerned this humble soup establishment after a lovely train trip along the California shoreline. Upon arrival, I feared, as we showed up on a Wednesday and also the dismal establishment was considerably compared from the busy farmers market nearby. Nonetheless, what may be lacking with the interior is quickly made up with the care and also craft put right into every dish of soup. This no-frills restaurant is as mystical as it is mundane in what I can only define as the duality of La Bonne. The soup selection is always revolving as well as advertised by Chef Edwards by means of Twitter (Manage @nosoupe4u, I'm fairly positive I'm his most enthusiastic fan). La Bonne uses a range of soups and also sandwiches, every one of which have a component of magic to them. The soups are genuinely fascinating, and also range from selections such an alluring lamb curry, to a smooth mango pumpkin, to a classic french onion. Having come here for months, my colleague and I had fallen under a routine of perching at a high leading table, with him buying a half soup and sandwich (The Classic paired with french onion), while I would browse the numerous soup selections. The guy behind the soup himself, Chef Edwards, is a secret that I always appreciated from afar. I have actually formulated a story of him in my mind, where he's a soup genius who is destined to open store in France someday. There are really couple of facilities that concentrate on soup, as well as the singularity of La Bonne became increasingly more evident with each go to. La Bonne instilled in me a deep admiration for the craft of soup. The association of the word soup will constantly bring me back to that high leading table, contently enjoying a dish of soup in stunning Sacramento.

This afternoon was my very first time at La Bonne Soupe Cafe. I ordered half of a Pork Pinneaple Sausage sandwich and a cup of the Crawfish Bisque soup and they both tasted amazing! The ingredients appeared to be very fresh because the chef sliced the ingredients and made my order right in front of me. I will definitely go back for more!

I keep in mind the very first time I stepped into the original La Bonne on 8th street ran by French Chef Daniel Pont. The area was a charming opening in the wall surface and the chef was an adorable gruff running the entire show. Yet those days are long gone. La Bonne has progressed to its current location ran by Chef Stoddard and his team. The food is still outrageously tasty. Say thanks to benefits. Oh ... that bread that they serve the sandwiches on is past words. Divine. It is a baguette with a soft springy facility and also slim crisp crackly crust. No hard crunchy hurt your teeth bread ... no sirree. Not just was it tasty, it was beautiful with its gold brownish structure. I fantasize concerning that bread. The cook rotates the specials; attempt the lamb sandwich. $10. It has tender melt in your mouth lamb pieces. The lamb is delicious without the earthy gaminess. The chef understands his stuff. The lamb slices was topped with mushrooms and also gruyere cheese as well as lettuce fallen leave. Delicious! The trademark French onion soup is made with hen and veal supply along with sherry simmered to perfection. It is a normal menu thing. Delicious! Prices is comparable to the dining establishments around the location especially La Bou which is best next door. Paradoxical. It is a order and pay at the counter kind location. Take regard it is open Monday - Friday 11 am-3 pm.

Original post was Oct. 12 gave 2 stars: They gave me the wrong order. They swapped my sandwich with the customer before me. Highly disappointed. I didn't enjoy my lunch and I tipped for bad service. They need to be more careful of giving the right order to the right customer. Other than that I do enjoy the food there but wasn't happy with today's sandwich bc I was looking forward to trying a new sandwich. The one I had I would never order (had roasted veggies in it). Update Nov. 2 Chef Edward read my feedback on squareup. I paid with card so I got an email from squareup for La Bonne asking about the service for Oct. 12 purchase. I am happy the Chef Edward offered to replace the sandwich for their mistake so I went back today and got to finally try the Big LP and it was yummy. Thanks for remediating the issue. I will continue being a loyal customer for my sandwich and soup cravings.

Okay, let me give you a setting of the first time I found this gem. It was December, with cold winter rain. The skies were gray and it was pouring outside. My friends and I were studying for a class at one of the downtown flats. We're hungry and cold. My downtown friend suggests we go to this small soup café, and when we walk there in the pouring rain, the cafe was practically empty. Nobody was there. But I ordered the lobster bisque and a loaf of French bread. It was amazing. Best soup I have ever tasted and everytime I go back, it amazes me even more. Every soup has a variety of flavors, and it is unfortunate the hours are scarce, but it just makes it more special to me. Go there and you won't regret it.

Stopped here for lunch. Small place. Guitarist by the door. Cool. Not too busy. Friendly staff. Ordered large seafood chowder and a baguette. Tasty and fresh. Only complaint is soup too salty for me. Fresh homemade food.

Wonderful find!. We had a delightful light lunch here today in this small, chef-owned and operated soup and sandwich place. There is a regular menu and then a healthy list of daily specials. We had the cream of mushroom soup (divine), the smoked salmon sandwich and the vegetarian sandwich (both yummy). Very satisfying, affordable and made to order.

-----27 Aug, 2014-----

C'est magnifique!. We enjoyed a lovely light lunch here. The cream of mushroom soup was delicious, ditto the smoked salmon and veggie sandwiches. Chef owned and run, small space with some outdoor seating, would definitely return.

Awesome. This tiny, quaint cafe is very unique. It adds a very French' touch, in comparison to the ordinary eateries downtown. Wonderful selections on the menu as well as the range of flavors in their soups...and sandwich combinations. A definite must to stop in, wait, and enjoy your lunch.

Super good. I wish it was open longer so I could go more often other than on my vacation days. And although there is only one guy and the wait is long he pays special attention to every order.

The soup was tasty but, the cashier was really rude to my elderly father. As my dad stood next the register and put his change back in his wallet; the cashier snapped : "Go and do that elsewhere!"
I will not be back.

Pretty amazing French soups and sandwiches. This lovely older man has it down to a science. As you wait in line, the smells of braised lamb and onions waft toward you. As you reach the front , which be prepared for a long wait, you see fresh vegetables, toasted baguettes, coquettes of meats thy have been slow roasted, and urns of fresh soups . This man is making the best sandwiches in town. Try the Brie and procuitto with aioli.

Wonderful order some champagne with you sandwich.

Sublime.. Absolutely fantastic. The memory of your long wait will absolutely melt away at the first taste of anything this cafe has to offer. I promise you; you have not had a dinning experience like this at even five times the price.
Miguel
Awesome tasty sandwiches and soup. Worth the long wait.

Yesterday, I went to La Bonne Cafe. Now this is a one man show, literally. You do have quite a wait due to the fact that one man is preparing the food, helping customers, and completing transactions, but it is well worth it. He makes everything with fresh ingredients each morning, then does the preparing as you order it (ie putting the sandwich together, slicing everything up, etc). I ordered a mozzarela and tomato sandwich and cream of mushroom soup. I have never experienced better soup in my life. FANTASTIC. The bread was amazing on the sandwich...everything was wonderful. The atmosphere of the cafe was also great - a smidge crowded because it is small, but if you aren't claustrophobic, you'll be fine.
I give this one a full 5 stars.

The place was tiny and the service was super slow but well worth the wait. the cream of mushroom was hevan!

Fantastic soups and sandwiches. Only complaint is the lack of vegetarian soups (everything has, at least, chicken stock). I'd love to bring my veggie spouse with me next time.

Le Bonne Soups & Sandwiches. Chef Pont makes each sandwich from scracth after you put your order, the cooked meat Sandwhichesare great (Lamb, Pork & Tri Tip).
The brie with strawberry, or apple or briscutto are a treat to the palate. The cream soups are flavorful and not heavy at all, you can taste all the ingredients. The French onion soup and the cramboulle are fantastic. Because this is a one man operation, you must have a lot of patience, sometimes it will take an hour to get in front and put your order. Its worth the wait. !!! The best place in downtown Sacramento! I personally am trying to go through all of his menu.
