Review Canon - Sacramento

The patio is covered and very warm even on the cold rainy day. Beautiful setting. Friendly knowledgeable, attentive service. Excellent well crafted cocktails. Wine list is more global than local. The dishes are meant to be shared. Everything was well made with good flavor. There are a lot of creativity and a theme of gooey pillowy texture. The pork chop was a highlight for us. Save room for dessert.

My colleague and I had dinner here on a Wednesday evening. The food was inventive and- some amazing and some more interesting. My cocktail, the Brussels Sprouts, the hamachi, and the chicken were delicious. The tots were nothing special and somewhat bland, and the Radicchio salad was interesting and unique but not our favorite. Our service was good but not great.

Canon proved worthy of their repeated Michelin Bib Gourmond recognition. The standout dishes were the CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS, WILTED BRUSSEL SPROUTS, and the most outstanding and delicious SOPAPILLAS. A recommended spot for all, but seemed particularly popular as a date night locale. Also a Chaine des Rotisseurs member which is somewhat a rarity in the USA. Kudos to Chef Brad Cecchi and his crew.

**Update: I've been back here at least 6 or 7 times since this review and have loved every visit. Everyone I bring here is absolutely floored by the taste of the food and so am I as the menu changes between seasons. Truly one of the top restaurants in Sacramento. WOW. After reading the reviews I was pretty apprehensive of what the service would be like but I’ll get that out of the way by saying it was outstanding. This seems like it may be just my luck but it was really really good. The atmosphere and the design is quite nice, pretty high end although I don’t think it quiiiite matches the pricing of the food which is admittedly pretty pricey. This is not an everyday spot, this pricing is like special occasion high. BUT what really blew me away- the star of the night was the food! Easily some of the of the top dishes I’ve tasted in Sacramento right up there with some of my favorites. The steak came out exactly how I ordered and was probably the best steak I’ve had in the entire area. Do I wish it came with some extra potatoes or something? Yes. But again, for the flavor of the steak and the little slaw/salad thing it came with to be that good, I can’t really knock the low carbs here. I ate it before I could even remember to take a photo! The summer squash dish also really caught me off guard on first bite. The flavors are excellent, you’ll probably find yourself saying “wow” a lot throughout your dining experience from the food to the bill 😅. Definitely will be back though. I loved it, and the bathroom soap is high quality which is a tell tale sign that the restaurant is legit.

Everything about this spot is unmatched. The food was out of this world! And the service was stellar. The main dishes are large and designed to be shared, so bring a group with.

We went to Canon for my daughter's birthday. The food was flipping amazing and the atmosphere is gorgeous. My disappointment was in the service. The owner was there and never stopped at a single table to ask how anyone's meal was. Our server was efficient, but very impersonal. Dining is a whole experience and that part was lacking. But the food! Wow!

I've been here at least twice on visits to Sacramento and each menu has been different except for a few staple items. Family style so shareable plates, depending on what you get you order and the size of your party you may need more than one order. This time we had the halibut, the celery salad, the molasses rye loaf, the broccoli romesco, the chicken drumsticks and the not on the menu burger. The drumsticks are meaty, flavorful and a favorite, 2 per order. The halibut was also excellent, super tender and juicy but between 4 of us we only each got maybe one inch square pieces. The best thing on the menu? Their not on the menu burger! We juat happened to see it being served or wouldn't have known it existed...homemade bun, well seasoned burger patty, so juicy with white cheddar, we split it between 3 of us and all agreed it was one of the best burgers we have had!! Definitely a must to and something I'd go back for! Service has been great each time, we sat inside this time but have sat on the nice patio as well. Nice ambience too. Can seem a bit pricey bc some of the platea really aren't that big (like the salads) but I would recommend trying this place at least once. Menu changes weekly.

The atmosphere and food were fantastic. Great vibe, very warm and comfortable while not feeling like I was cramped in around a bunch of strangers. Every dish I had was delicious and would order again. The only part I found disappointing was their wine by the glass menu. I ordered the Hungarian Red Blend and it was bad. I ended up ordering a cocktail - which was so well made. We ordered 3 different cocktails, all well crafted.

Excellent meal full of tantalizing flavor combinations. The two of us shared one steak, two "smaller dishes", and the sourdough bread. Plenty of food, we had no room for dessert. Wine list is a treat if you want to check out lesser known wines. All well chosen. Will come again.

Fantastic first experience here. Great service, creative signature cocktails, and every dish we tried we were very happy with! Looking forward to coming back and exploring more of what the chef has to offer. Thank you Canon for not ruining a rare & elusive date night. 😉

My friends brought me here for a birthday dinner and it was fabulous! The staff was great and refreshed our main plates quite often, which was really nice. I really enjoyed all the food but the dumb sticks with yogurt and Brussel sprouts with pear were top notch. The only thing we didn’t enjoy was the Treviso salad, it was super bitter. We sat out side and they had some heaters but they really just took the edge off the cold. Dress appropriately and don’t try to wear cute shoes like I did - you’ll have ice cubes for toes haha. Overall this was great experience!

The food here is exploding with flavor! It's served family style so you can share and sample a handful of dishes. The menu changes regularly, giving you plenty of opportunities to try something new. I loved the barbecue carrots. This place is perfect for everything from a romantic evening out to a celebratory dinner to a get together with friends to a quick stop to get dessert. Personally, I'm going to find every excuse to stop by. The dessert is out-of-this-world! Make sure you save room. The staff are fantastic! They're friendly, professional, and the work together to provide an elegant dining experience. You truly feel like you can relax while they take care of your every need. My water glass was never more than half empty. If you are looking for the full dining experience, this place will not disappoint.

This place is INSANE. It’s so damn good. Not a single thing that didn’t make me say “oh my god! This is so good!” I have a deadly allergy to parsley and cilantro. The chef made me my own menu and knew that curry and coriander were also off limits, which is rare. They accommodated me to the best of their ability and that’s so damn refreshing. 10/10. I cant wait to come back.

Delicious! We ordered to house pickles (cucumber, cauliflower and pears) to start. Then, 6/8 small plates to share for the two of us. Everything was amazing and seasonal. The winner for my palate was the king salmon in heirloom gazpacho. However, nothing disappointed. A year later: had the fennel salad, sardines, green garlic Naan and quail. Wishing we ordered the Tots and Chicken Drums every time they walked by. Update 1/24/23. Well, I have a 4 extraordinary experiences here and 2 very mediocre experiences. I will say carrots are always a pleaser, as are the drumsticks. I love the creative ideas they come up with. A couple times like the Hamachi Collar tonight, and potatoes were underwhelming. The amazing visits will keep me coming back because when it's on it's ON!

Very chill space, great staff, the food is very creative and tasty. I cannot say enough about the cheddar fat butter and sourdough. Good selection of wines and beers as well.

Get the chicken drumsticks. Trust me. And the sourdough with CHEDDAR FAT BUTTER (don't ask me what that means, I can only tell you how delicious it was). We enjoyed a number of other delightful small plates, but I'm still intoxicated by the flavor of those drumsticks so I can't remember anything else. I had a fabulous mezcal cocktail (grumpy uncle?) and my friend enjoyed some lovely white wines. Our server was fab and directed us towards great choices. Dessert was also great! The acoustics on the restaurant made it hard to hear all the choices so we ordered the sopaipilla bc that's one we could hear. And, like I told you before, I really couldn't focus on anything after those chicken drumsticks. GET THE DRUMSTICKS.

I was absolutely blown away by the dishes at Canon. The mushroom plate was amazing, as was the citrus salad and the pickled vegetables. I don’t eat meat, but the wagyu and the lamb both looked amazing. The harissa sauce and roasted onions with the wagyu plate were completely satisfying on their own. Loved the desserts- we ordered a few small things to share. My favourite was the house made Oreo with beet buttercream. So delicious and unique! We had red wine and sparkling rose, both wonderful suggestions from our awesome server Adam. Our entire party was full and happy. Canon is fantastic!

I had the salmon. I have had salmon from so many top-rated restaurants. This salmon was the best salmon I’ve had, by light-years. So buttery and flavorful. Also of note, the excellent beer and wine selection, the small plate starters (we had the tots and chicken wings, both unique and amazing), and the friendly and helpful service (a sommelier even!). And the design was elegant and endearing. We will be back to this establishment

Clever menu design to be shared in with actually enough to share on the plate. The corn nut crusted ribs and the bread plate with lardo were buy and far the favorites of the night. Even better is a cocktail menu of original and classic drinks that are balanced and well made. A new favorite in Sacramento to be sure.

There is not a point to make a reservation when you are less than 5 min late and call to advise as you are stuck in a protest unexpected downtown. They do not answer their phones when called. As many of people told us not to waste our time as food is mediocre and service is terrible .. I should have listened. They the proceed to sit us outside when it is 55 degrees outside with “warmers” that smell like gas. This is not an establishment you want to visit! Would not recommend to anyone I know looking to eat downtown or surrounding!

Food with an experience is truly a thing! More than just food in your belly, the vibe, flavor paring all compliment the entire experience. The owner came table side to ensure his vision for the restaurant was executed. I'll be back!! Cheers Canon East!

Brunch soft opening.. The food is amazing....The service is awesome. The atmosphere is cozy... This will be a regular place for us..

Best birthday dinner ever! Brad and staff made this a special evening. Great food, great atmosphere, great service with really nice people.

I was so looking forward to eating here and was so very disappointed. Only 4 main courses to chose from so we ordered the Beer Can Chicken, it was under cooked our friends ordered the same, it was tough you could barely cut it to eat it. We also order a bunch of small plates, one was ribs, again they were tough and under cooked. Ribs should fall of the bone and be tender, these were fat and grisly. I didn’t like anything we ordered and it cost us $360. I have eaten all over the world and this was the worst meal I have ever had. Plus it was 95 degrees outside and they sat us on the patio with misters that made our table and us completely wet.

We’ve been several times and the service is great and the food is always incredible.

Went to Canon for a party last night. The food was so amazing I dreamt about it last night. The service seamless. And... I'm a pretty tough judge when it comes to cocktails and every cocktail was perfect. As beautiful as they were tasty. Thank you canon, we're so happy to have you in Sacramento.
