Hands down every piece of cake ordered within our group was heavenly.
Aiden, our cashier, had a smile on his face, and was super helpful; even though we were there 30 mins before closing.
I would highly recommend this place for a sweet tooth brunch, or a dessert night cap.

You want to satisfy your sweet tooth and transport you back in time, look no further than Rick's Dessert Diner in Downtown Sacramento. This place is a total thumbs up, even staying open until midnight to make sure you get your sugar fix.
Walking into Rick's is like stepping into a time machine - the old-fashioned diner atmosphere is absolutely delightful. And the desserts? Don't even get me started. I tried the German chocolate cake and it was so good that even James Dean's portrait on the wall was thanking me for coming.
But the real star of the show here is the decor. It's like a trip down memory lane, with nostalgia oozing from every corner. The only downside? The parking. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but trust me, the cheesecakes with fruit are worth the parking struggle.
And let's not forget about the staff. The folks behind the counter are super sweet, just like their desserts. So if you're in the mood for a trip back in time and some seriously delicious treats, head on over to Rick's Dessert Diner on K Street. You won't be disappointed (but your waistline might be).

Best diner I have gone to that only has desserts🍰🎂🧁🥧. So many options it is overwhelming😍. I went with a group of 8 people and we all ordered different things so we could sample each other’s sweets. I order their key lime pie🍋, snickerdoodle and peanut butter cookie. So delicious! From other’s plates in my group, I tried the peach pie, red velvet cake, mint chocolate cake and carrot cake. All of those were good too! The cakes are so moist😍. I definitely want to come back! 🙌🏼👍🏼

Yum, Yum, Yum! This place is delicious! I was hoping for Key Lime Pie but, no luck so I had the fruit tart. I was torn and wanted the lemon blueberry cake but went with the tart. I only wish I lived closer! 👍🏼👍🏼

A very nice selection of deserts in an old fashion diner atmosphere. I had a slice of the Fudge Fantasy Cake, which is chocolate cake with raspberry preserves with butter cream frosting. My daughters had a chocolate cheesecake with a chocolate ganache and strawberries on it. Both were delicious. The staff was friendly.
We've been back a few times now. Great experience each time.

We had Tiramisu, the chocolate cake and blueberries cake. Everything was great. We loved the tiramisu. Absolutely every bite of the desserts were fresh and great.

Oh man! I've been here before a few years ago and had a slice of cake. It's a super cute place. Today, I had a sandwich and a peanut butter cookie. I don't have a picture of the cookie, but it was bigger than my hand and a lovely soft texture, with a strong peanut butter flavor. There is nothing better.
They use all Boar's Head meats and Boar's Head condiments. The sandwich, I had salted rosemary bread (AMAZING) with ham and salsalito turkey, caramelized onion Jack cheese, mayo, deli mustard, deli dressing (olive oil, red wine vinegar, herbs and spices) and tomatoes, onions, pepperoncini/banana peppers and lettuce. It really was a great sandwich. I would be happy to make Rick's my regular lunch spot if I lived closer!
Also, customer service was wonderful.

Always fun, always diverse choice of desserts. Great location with lots of street parking nearby. There's plenty of indoor seating too. We saw somebody having a birthday party here where they purchased a large cake. The slices are rich and flavor and approximately about $8 a slice. They also have cheesecakes and a variety of pies by the slice and you can also purchase whole cakes. It's clean and yummy! If you're looking to get something sweet, this is a great place to go. They've been in downtown Sacramento for decades.

Every time I come here they never disappoint. The decor alone will bring you back to nostalgia and reminiscence as a kid having ice cream at the parlor. The menu of desserts is extensive and it’s very difficult to pick just one ☺️ This time I had the chocolate with peanut butter shake. It was heavenly. Great desserts and fun times!!

01/21/2023: First visit, and we loved it! The vibe is fun as the decor is like a 50s diner with lots of pink and neon lights.
We couldn't decide on 1 dessert, so we picked a couple to take home. We enjoyed a slice of banana cream pie and a chocolate coconut cream pie on site. Both were delicious, not overly sweet. I love crust, and their crust was light, flaky, and delightful. I also had a hot chocolate, which, again, was not overly sweet, and I enjoyed it a lot.
The other desserts we took home included a slice each of the red velvet cake, carrot cake, chocolate eclair, and cannoli. All of them were delicious. If you've never been, give Rick's a try. No matter what you choose, you'll be happy.

Great cakes! First time visiting this diner and it's such a cozy spot to hang out and enjoy a delicious cake. There are many cake options to choose from as well as pies, cookies, cream puffs, drinks, ice cream, and more. We ordered the German chocolate cake and a tiramisu. Fantastically sweet and delicate. There's so many options to choose from I'll have to come here again.

Such a wide selection of yummy looking desserts! Almost overwhelming. Staff was happy to give details on any item, and made a suggestion when I told them what I liked. This was a slice of a chocolate cake with a raspberry layer. Large and very clean facility, almost empty during a weekday lunch hour. My only complaints are the prices were a bit higher than I anticipated, about $8 for a slice of cake, and the frosting was a bit thick for the amount of cake. Very rich. I should have shared it with someone.

Hard to go wrong at Rick's. Yummy dessert options for every pallet (I usually got for a chocolate mouse variety, wife loves the fruit basket cake). Very kid friendly. Pricing is exceptional. Also serves other food if you’re looking for a full meal and not just desset.

Rick's Dessert Diner is a nice little place to grab desserts, coffee, wine, and beer! We had coffee and one of the cakes, the cake was good. Our friends ordered pies, ice creams, and cakes and they all looked quite good.
Prices are very reasonable, staff is fast and efficient, and the venue has a very nice vibe.
I recommend hitting this nice little gem!
