Hidden within the awkward parking lot of Westmar Plaza is Edoya! This place deserves some rave with their sushi. The rolls are fair priced and very delicious.
I used to go to Greece for sushi but I recently found Edoya and this is my new go to sushi place. Much closer to home with much better taste. My favorite is that the rolls are cut into 8 pieces. I normally go for 3 rolls myself but not here, 2 is a feast.
It looks like the owners run Edoya themselves. They’re both very friendly and polite. They always put the customer first and delicious food follows! Everything tastes so fresh. The building inside is very clean, simple, and well kept. The parking lot is under a weird development stage but don’t let that drive you away. It’s easily one of the best sushi in Rochester.
Nice small Japanese restaurant. Not crowded. Serves sushi and rice based dishes. The rice dishes were really big for me and I could easily eat it over two meals. They also come with miso and salad. I recommend getting the hot tea to wash every thing down.
Best Japanese cuisine I’ve ever had. My wife and I love this place. The owner is a nice Japanese couple. So it’s a genuine Japanese restaurant unlike others. Lovely decoration makes yourself feel at home. We tried the sushi and sashimi first as always. It’s fresh and delicious. And we thought why not have something new? So we order:
Takoyaki
To be honest, after I tried the takoyaki here, I don’t think other restaurant can use this name anymore. There is a big piece of octopus in the ball. And the sauce is mysteriously tasty unlike some ordinary salad sauce in other places.
Beef teriyaki
My favorite. Never go to Texas Roadhouse again. It’s crispy outside and tender inside. The sauce is amazing. And the mushroom elevates the flavor up to the next level.
Pork chop curry rice
Absolutely top notch. It serves two of us with huge volume. My wife craves the taste of this curry and we tried to replicate but failed. The beef and carrot in the dish give you a multilayer feeling of satisfaction. In my opinion, it’s just of perfection.
Now I have moved to another city. I miss Edoya. This place makes me feel peaceful. Probably because I sometimes see the chef sitting outside of the door and just rest peacefully under the sunshine when no customers coming. I wish them a good fortune and healthiness. If I have the chance to go back to Rochester, this restaurant must be the first place I’m going to visit.
Authentic Japanese Sushi.
Edoya is a traditional sushi bar owned and operated by an actual Japanese sushi chef. If you want actual sushi, not the fatty fried nonsense that gets served at "other establishments", then Edoya comes highly recommended. For lunch I had the dragon roll, the house roll, and various pieces of sashimi. Each item was a knockout. Additionally, the sake here is fantastic. The freshness and authenticity of the food is really what elevates this place from other sushi bars in the area. If you are looking for a unique Japanese sushi experience, Edoya is for you. I will definitely be returning in the near future.
I gotta admit. This place is awesome. When I was a very small child, around 2 or 3, I went up to them and bowed. Now no one had taught me thats how you greet Japanese. But I did anyway. Me and my family have gone every year, around 3 times each. I wish we could go more often. They are quite nice, and its like were great friends because we know each other so well! Sushi is my favorite food ever. I always get a large plate of sashimi and sushi, raw. This place is amazing.
I lived in Japan for a few years and had a hankering for authentic dishes other than sushi. This place had a legit katsudon and appeared to have other great menu items as well. Small, friendly Japanese restaurant. Stop by and check it out!
Good Japanese food. When I was told there is a family owned Japanese restaurant and the chef is Japanese, I was excited about. It is still good sushi, just not as good as I was expecting. Still better than most Japanese restaurants in Rochester.
Ever since my girl discovered this place we come to eat once every week. The owners are very friendly and the food is amazing. The servings are large. I recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional Japanese eatery not in the city.
This restaurant is a hidden gem! We started with a sushi combo plate and steamed shrimp dumplings. Very fresh with a tasty sauce. For entrées we had bowls of udon with vegetables, shrimp, chicken and octopus. Thet were piping hot and delicious.

Good food, Takoyaki is my absolute favorite food, and theirs did not disappoint. Very fresh sushi.
The service was fast and friendly. The prices were more than fair. Definitely would visit again.
I am a sushi connoisseur and have been almost everywhere in this city (and elsewhere) and can say that there is NOTHING like Edoya sushi. Everything is always so fresh and their rolls are always big and fluffy (rice is never hard)... They are very friendly and have an authentic Japanese decor. They are the best in Rochester. (Sorry California Rollin)
Easily some of the best sushi in Rochester. Some unique menu items that aren't found often here(takuyaki). Anything I've ever had here was super fresh. Favorite Japanese food in Rochester.
The sushi is amazing, but often I go there for other dishes. The takoyaki and fried octopus are my favorite appetizers. Their don-bowls are very delicious and fulfilling.
Amazing food every time! Their miso soup is one of the best I've had. The people who work there are nice and friendly. My personal favorite is the tempura shrimp/vegetable bento box.
Edoya is on a short list of the best sushi in ROC. Just about as authentic as you can get with a Japanese chef, the hand rolls are uniquely good, and the uni is actually delicious here. totally changed my world on that!
