Had dinner with my husband Saturday night. Wonderful meal (cheese plate, filet mignon with Guiness glaze, NY strip steak, brussel sprouts, warm potato salad, and dessert of pumpkin creme brulee and an olive oil apple cake with caramel drizzle, whipped cream and sugared walnuts! Fantastic meal!!!!
Food is Exceptional. Hostess, bartender and wait staffed polite and professional. Manager Virginia gave our experience a personal touch, stopping at our table to make sure everything was prepared to our specifications, and she assisted the wait staff with serving the dinner. Excellent experience. Will go again, and recommend highly.
This was my first time at Max's. I had the pork chop and it was fabulous. The best that I've ever had. It came with brussel sprouts and potatoes on the side. My dad had the burger and fries which also looked delicious. The restaurant is not very big, so seating quarters are tight. The restaurant has a nostalgic feel to it. It's not inexpensive but it was worth every penny. I'll be back!
This was literally a perfect night for my husband and I as we celebrated our wedding anniversary on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The table they let us choose was huge—more than enough elbow room. The service was 10/10 (our waitress was Katie) which I think stood out in the post-pandemic era because restaurants have sometimes struggled to retain excellent service. I hope Max Chophouse pays their servers well.
The food was absolutely to die for. I had the Hanger steak (10oz) with the red wine reduction sauce. When I say it was the best steak I’ve ever had, I’m not even remotely exaggerating. My husband had the NY Strip and feels similarly.
I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. We HAVE to return, because if I don’t get to experience that steak/sauce combo again I’ll perish. I adored this experience.
Had a very nice dinner date here. Ordered soup, salad, and steak, everything tasted great!
After being our go-to for takeout burgers, Max Chophouse is now also our new go-to for date night. Last time I got the ribeye and she got the sea bass. Everything was prepared to perfection. Their menu changes with the seasons, so order the heirloom tomato salad while you can. The wine list can be intimating, but look for the Turley zinfandel on the late page, which is tasty, pairs well with the steaks, and is a good value. Impeccable, friendly, and prompt yet unrushed service, at a place they remember you by name.
My girlfriend and I had an amazing birthday dinner the other night. The food was beyond exceptional and our server Natalie was the best. Cocktails and wine were on point and the dining room had a relaxed but vibrant atmosphere. We are already planning our next visit. Best steak in all of Rochester!
My first visit at Max Chophouse was a good one. We had reservations which were met on time. The steak tartar was fresh and delicious, and the steak we ordered was cooked perfectly how we ordered it. The NY strip with truffle butter on the side was incredibly tasteful and very large. The filet was perfect as well. Constant water service and attentive waitress but not over attentive; a good balance. Dim atmosphere, family style seating with a small space as a separation, but still felt by ourselves which was nice but social at the same time. This place seems to get good business by just being known, or word of mouth. The store front is not much to behold, and at night could barely see where to turn into the parking lot in front. We ended dinner off with a little espresso which was quite good. The bill we gave two cards and told her to split evenly which she seemed to charge me twice then refund me and never told me, which annoys me. Other that this, we had a good time. We talked with the couple we came with for a while after we were done and didn’t get rushed out at all. Coat check available and great bar with wine selection as well.
Exceptional. Max Chophouse is one of our favorite restaurants for a special occasion. The food is phenomenal and the service is great. The wine list is a little expensive but comparable to the overall cost of the meal. Our steaks (hanger and filet mignon) were all cooked perfectly. The sides (mac n cheese and brussel sprouts were well seasoned and great for sharing- we got 2 for a party of 4). We also shared the cheese course. Lover everything!!! Do not be fooled by its location. This is truly a hidden gem for the people who know where to look.
Let me start by saying I've been in the restaurant business from line cook to assistant manager to kitchen manager and back up chef. Im a big guy and I love food and if you haven't experienced max chophouse on Monroe, you're missing out. My wife took me here for my birthday and it was incredible from beginning to end. Every person working was very pleasant and welcoming. Our server Natalie was an absolute pro! She was the nicest, most knowledgeable server I can remember ever have served me before. I ordered 18 oysters and the 40oz tomahawk ribeye, and I was so excited about it and Natalie was honestly excited with me, and she had no clue it was even my birthday. It was just an awesome feeling to have such a friendly, not awkward person like Natalie taking care of us. She checked back and all the right times, the busser was on point the whole time, so much so, that I had to say no to more water. The word PERFECT fits with how our experience was tonight in every way. As guy fierie would say, the food here is out of bounds! Lastly we got our bill and some to-go boxes and Natalie surprises me with a chocolate cake slice to take home. Unbelievable! Highest of recommendations goes out to max chophouse on Monroe. Thanks to all who had part in my birthday dinner tonight. It was truly perfect
Drinks wine and appetizers then dinner 4 people were all very nice. Estimate per person including tip $150.00 per person. Worth the experience
Don't let the strip mall fool you, this is absolutely a tier 1 restaurant in Rochester.
My wife and I split oysters, a salad, creamed kale, fries, a filet mignon and a dry aged ribeye, topped it off with a delicious bottle of pinot noir that paired incredibly well with both the oysters and the steaks (doesn't always work out that way). Washed it all down with a couple of espresso martinis and a creme brûlée. Everything - down to the sea salt and rosemary rolls served with dinner - was absolutely incredible.
It's expensive, about as much as we've paid for a meal in Rochester, but was a wonderful experience.
