Roots Steakhouse

I visited on a Saturday night. I made a reservation but noticed walk-ins were accepted with a short wait. I love the ambiance of this location. The staff was friendly and tentative. This place is great for date night *wink, wink*. The kitchen is artfully displayed depending on where you’re seated. The food is delicious; particularly the meat. I had the petite NY Strip Steak medium (featured in the pics). I will definitely be returning for more good food and memories.

Pleasant steakhouse located on a fairly busy road in Ridgewood, NJ. I went on a night when they were busy with 2 large parties that had apparently taken up much of the kitchen's capacity, so there was a long delay in receiving my order, but I don't believe that is worth holding against the restaurant. My meal began with a savory popover, which arrived piping hot and wonderfully crispy. I ordered the French onion soup, which also arrived hot, but had partly spilled outside the crock it was served in onto the saucer (shown in picture). It was a good soup, but nothing worth writing home over. My main entree was the 16oz dry aged NY Strip steak, ordered medium with a side of their chorizo hash. The hash arrived in a separate dish, but I just combined everything onto one plate. It was overall a tasty meal, but the sear on the steak was a little too heavy, in my opinion. It was slightly charred. The internal temperature was perfect, though. The hash tastes just like what you think of when I say "home fries, sauteed white onions, and chorizo." Overall, my meal was good, but given the prices here, and its proximity to a restaurant like The Capital Grille, I would recommend passing. While this is a good spot, I believe your money would be better spent at some of the other nearby high-end steakhouses. Still, my waitress was wonderfully attentive and kind and this was still a good experience. I just don't think it's worth the price given the nearby alternatives.

Our experience at Roots Steakhouse was amazing! First of all, our waitress Jennifer was great. She was super attentive, charismatic, professional and polite. She made great food and drinks recommendations and made sure to check in that everything was to our liking. The food was really delicious and the portions were a good size. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the desserts were mouth watering, especially the chocolate cake!! The service in the restaurant was very attentive also. We had multiple other managers come up to ensure everything was to our liking. Also the atmosphere in the restaurant is very relaxed with the dim lighting which makes it the perfect place for a date night. Overall, we will definitely be back and we highly recommend it to anyone who wants a great steak dinner.

The steak was buttery tender and delicious. We ordered a porterhouse for two medium. We got potatoes au gratin and supreme spinach on the side. The French onion soup for an appetizer was banging. Everything that we got was delicious and well done. Everything was also very well seasoned. The wait staff were incredible and although we didn't drink the bartender knew how to play the room. Great time, great experience and great food!!
