The vibes were perfect, the staff was friendly, and service was quick even near closing hours on a Saturday night. And the food. Oh the food was wonderful. I got the prosciutto and argula pizza to share and I savored every crispy bite. So much so that I almost forgot to grab a pic until we were near halfway through!
More than reasonably priced when you're sharing a pizza, I'm really looking forward to going again soon.
We don’t normally have pizza for dinner, but this place looked so lovely we had to try. The outside has festive lighting and they have a small yet cozy patio. We came here got a table inside which had a great window view.
For food we went with the funghi pizza, meat and cheese board along with tiramisu and ice cream for dessert. The food didn’t take long to come out. Meat and cheese board had generous portions and a good variety of meats and cheeses. Our servers were friendly and quick.
Pizza was very hot and fresh so much so that we had to eat them off the little plates so that they wouldn’t burn our fingers. The tiramisu was delicate and tasty. Ice cream was sweet and had real chocolate chips or so in it. Our waiters had high energy and were attentive. Excellent place which made for a memorable dinner.
The restaurant is wonderful. While it offers a normal non-vegan menu, for me it was awesome because the vegan pizza option uses locally made Unmoo cheese on Pizza which has zero after taste like Daiya cheese. Unmoo melts in your mouth. So good!!! It is an extra $4. for the vegan cheese but the pie was much larger than I was expecting. We really could have split a pizza and maybe order another appetizer. The Panelle (chickpea fritter) was delicious (aioli sauce not vegan). Btw, I parked on Main Street which is free parking. If you park in the lot across the street (opposite Main Street Station), I think the first hour of parking is free.
We've been on the hunt for best pizza in Richmond, and Carmela's is certainly in the running. Nothing beats a classic Margherita, which when done well, is the mark of a solid pizza joint. The pizza is wood-fired with a crust that holds its form; the mozzarella is fresh and melty; and the sauce has just a hint of sweetness- the way I like it! We came for the pizza but we stayed for the cozy, romantic atmosphere. Only downside is tricky downtown parking. We will be back very soon for another date night and will also take my Italian family here!
Amazing food, cocktails, ambiance, and staff. Can’t wait to go back next time we are in town! We suggest: meatballs, fungi pizza, pizza bianco, penne with arugula pesto, and a classic old fashioned from their bartender! This is a great spot for a date night or small group of friends.
Definitely our new favorite spot. So tasty, fresh, and surprisingly inexpensive for the quality. Staff are welcoming, friendly, and well trained. We got the classic Margharita and Funghi. Both were so good. We got tiramisu to finish which was equally delicious. Happy hour specials: Tues-Fri 4-7: $4 rails, $1 off draft beer, $1 off wine, $2 off classic cocktails. Wish I had gotten a drink from the bar, it’s beautiful and great selection. Can’t wait to come back and try more.
This place was so great! I had the Bianca pizza and tried the Pesto one. Both of them were really good, and ready within minutes. The staff was super friendly. Our server Ogden was so nice and cute. Definitely will visit this place again.
The meatballs were great and the margarita pizza was excellent. The bartender had amazing recommendations and was very knowledgeable. I will be back.
Had a wonderful time at this charming little pizzeria. One of the best places Richmond has to offer for sure. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is both original and unpretentious. For a fair price, each pizza is fresh and has enough slices to share among a group or take home for leftovers.
So happy to have a great classic Italian spot in Shockoe Bottom!! I ordered the Capricciosa pizza, the Bleu de Mer rosé and the Illi pinot grigio. We also got the polpette di patata to share...sooo yummy! The pizza was delicious- crust was crispy and everything was really fresh. You can see them baking in the wood-fired oven right there. The bar is super cute too and service was excellent. I could only eat half the pizza before I was full, so I saved the other half for lunch the next day; just as delicious on day 2. They have happy hour Tue-Fri 4-7pm, $2 off classic cocktails, $1 off drafts and wine glasses, $4 rails. Will be going back!
