Good food with nice and calm interior. We happen to go for dinner on week day. It is a decent and clean place. If you are looking for good tasty Mexican food than this is the spot. Fondue with shrimp and mushroom in the appetizer was amazingly delicious. The main course in seafood which we ordered came with grilled scallops and shrimp over the bed of rice was delicious. The dish had generous amount of scallops and shrimps in it. Their home made nacho chips came warm and fresh. The place need a little more bright light and the bar place to be lit up as well. Overall very nice place to come to eat with family and children.

Just had this for the first time. Overall great/fresh food. Chips and salsa was very good. Waiter was very nice. Only cons was pretty warm in the restaurant and drinks could of been alittle stronger. Def would come back and recommend it to anyone.

The service was good, and our server was quick and responsive. However, I'm sad to say that the food was not good quality. The steak fajita tasted very bland and without seasoning. The vegetables had already gone way past their prime, and was accompanied by steak that was either very old or a bad cut of beef to begin with: chewy and very strongly tasting of liver. The rice tasted like it had been sitting around for a long time and then reheated.
My gut feeling was that food is not being turned over quickly enough, so all the ingredients are aging badly by the time they are used in the dishes. The queso and chips were decent, but that was the only satisfying part of the meal.
There was a nicely maintained fenced-in patio, but the inside is very dated and a bit disheveled - the furnishings, walls, and carpet could use some love and attention for sure. We were two of four people eating at the restaurant, and there were no additional parties that came in or called for takeout while we were there. Not a promising vibe.
They could probably turn things around if they invested time and money into turning it quality food - there's really not another sit-down Mexican restaurant in the immediate vicinity. They've been in Reynoldsburg at this location for such a long time, and I do wish these guys all the best. It can't have been easy to keep business going for the past few years.
But until I read reviews showing improvement, I think I would rather spend my money at Fogoncito or Mi Mexico.

Super friendly staff and laid back atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon. Chicken Yukatan was very tasty, along side the tortilla chips, salsa, and cheese dip. Topped off with fried ice cream and you can't go wrong. Great place to share a nice meal with friends.

Have not been here for over 5 years and was pleasantly surprised nothing had changed. They brought chips to start that tasted fresh made, salsa and queso sauce was great. I ordered chicken tacos that were amazing. Fiance had the la favorite and it was good. The tostaguac (pictured) was not my favorite but really enjoyed everything. Would definitely recommend.

Only positive thing I can say was it at least appeared to be clean. The food was bland my order was wrong and the drinks were weak. Save your money and go to taco bell instead.

My sister took me for the first time last week. Service was great! Food was served quickly. Everything we tried was FANTASTIC!!!!!! Without a doubt the best place I've eaten out in quite a while. Planning on making it a regular spot. It's absolutely worth stopping by!

Enchiladas camarones and the best salsa in town. My favorite Mexican meal at my favorite Mexican restaurant. Service is super fast and friendly. Been eating here once a month for about 10 years.

Ordered beef tacos and the beef was disgusting; the texture was not normal.
The chips and salsa were good.
Prices are good.
I suggest not ordering anything with beef in it.

We love El Portal, food was great as usual. Service was quick and courteous!

Sub par. The guacamole wasnt fresh and the food was mostly acceptable. Do not order anythin with ground beef, not sure what it was they passed off as beef. The chicken and pork were better.

Even after we moved across town, we still travel to El Portal because they are the best Mexican restaurant in Columbus. They have a great menu which has plenty of meat on it, but I'm sure they would cater to any vegetarian needs! If you're in the mood for Mexican, this is THE place to go.
