Review Vertex Sky Bar - Rapid City

The view from the rooftop is amazing!! Our waiter Alex gave us excellent service ! My wife and I both had the 8 oz steak! The steak was a perfect medium rare. My wife commented that this is the best steak she has ever had!! I had to agree! The specialty drinks are a great change of pace! This place is a must stop and see venue when you come to Rapid City!!

This is a must see while in town! The panoramic view from the top is quite lovely, as you can see the entirety of Rapid City while enjoying a drink or two outdoors. The drinks are a little steeper on the price but that makes sense as it is quite fancier than its sister bar on the ground floor.

Some of the best cocktails in the city, and definitely the best staff! The food has also been exquisite so far! Everything I've had has been superb, I highly recommend the steak sandwich. Finally, the view! Rapid City is very pretty to overlook at night.

Went for dinner and drinks, sat on the lower rooftop. Great atmosphere. I had the open faced steak sandwich, very good. SO had the chicken pasta and said it was just ok. Drinks were good, little pricey but expected for where we were. We had a great time.

Great location. View is panoramic but mostly rooftops so look out to the edges of town! Our drinks were well made and the small plates(appitizers) were quite filling and tasty. Our creme brulee was excellent. All of the servers were knowledgable about the dishes, friendly and very helpful. We sat and talked and ate for 3 hours in a great atmosphere. Good evening!

It was so beautiful. The view of the city was amazing. I had a comfy time by the fires outside which made it dreamy. The food was excellent, had the fish. And sipped on a corona. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect night.

Being that this is one of the only spots in rapid city, South Dakota I must say I enjoyed it. This bar is located inside of a hotel on the 10th floor. To go on the 10th floor, you need valet to lead you up. Upon arrival valet was going to bring us up but a group of young ladies gave us their card to go up being that the elevator could not take a lot of people. Really love the inside and outside of this bar. Coming out of the elector there’s indoor seating, and there’s also outdoor seating with a fireplace and heating to warm you up. You could all go further up and basically be on the roof of the hotel. The view gets better once your on the roof. We wanted to sit outside but it was just too cold for us so we sat in side the upper rooftop area and was greeted by Alex. We initially came to order just appetizers then cruise the city to be disappointed because everything closes at 9. Nonetheless I ordered a Cherry Poppin Fiz, and Prosciutto and Arugula flatbread. 10/10! I was really nervous about the Cherry Poppin Fiz but I enjoyed the freshness of it and the taste of cherry throughout the whole drink. The flatbread surprised me. Everything about it screamed freshness and tasty seasoning. The only thing I could say about both of these items is more cherries in the drink and bigger or longer flatbread to be shared among the table. Wait staff were friendly and checked in frequently. The atmosphere out on the deck was exactly what I was looking for to have a nice dinner with my wife. Appetizers and drinks were great, the filet the wife had was also great, but the Dry aged NY was a poor cut. The parts not rubbery and lined with elastin, gristle, that I could eat were tasty. Unfortunately it was about a third of the steak being wasted.

I sadly have to put this very honest review, I absolutely love the vertex, with it's amazing food, drink and view! Most of the staff if great but one waitress can make an experience that sticks. While we were here taking wedding pictures (because we just had the best day ever and the perfect ending would be sunset pictures at this beautiful roof top bar!) While up there this waitress moved a table in front of us while we were taking pictures, was rude with comments like "well they just need to leave" when we paid to have our reception here, she pushed a tray full of drinks into my photographer and the list goes on. I would usually keep my mouth shut and let things like this go but treating customers like that is completely unexceptionable and uncalled for! I pray no other bride goes through that here and they can find a better waitress! If you are a bride looking to have a wedding at this hotel I would say go for it just be aware and ready if you want rooftop pics 😉

You're mind will be blow by the view. It's like your transported to another world. As soon as your seated and you're order is taken, it's like your in heaven. A titch overpriced.

Fantastic views over Rapid City, excellent food, great music and staff friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit if you’re staying in the hotel.

Lovely and cozy space. During my stay at the Alex Johnson I ran up to the Sky Bar after a long day with a book and asked if could just chill and have a cup of tea. Within moments a friendly staff member brought me a warm cup of tea and all the fixings. Made my day!

Nice view of the city. On cool night the fire pits are going and add to the ambience. We just had drinks and dessert but our server had a great sence of humor.

Always fun to come here when we stay at the A.J.H. Specactular views, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Well worth a visit if you feel like spoiling yourself for a couple of hours.

Less than stellar service, with unfriendly management and staff. Kyle came up and apologized for the behavior of other staff members-he was the one redeeming part of the evening.

The best place to enjoy RC. Unique spot to get away from the hustle. Not only good sunset spot, but awesome brunch too.

Five stars for delicious cocktails, food, and atmosphere. Too expensive though. We will probably make this a once per year special evening because it really is that nice. Reading other reviews, I hear that having a membership does not give one great benefits other than being able to get in. Also looked into the membership myself once and saw it gave 10% discounts at a few other bars/restaurants associated with the company that runs this place. I guess they want to keep the riff raff out. So if I'm riff raff, I'll be staying out except for one special evening per year. :) The view from the top was great. The fire pits wonderful. Service very good. No complaints except for price.

Definitely one of my favorite bars in town and it's relaxing to enjoy the view and get away from the bar scene, however, I take away a star because drinks here are WAY overpriced ($8-$12). When we're already paying $250/year just to come here, we should not be further punished financially. As a member, i feel slapped in the face every time I pay for a drink.I understand the intentions of making this an exclusive bar, but I can seriously get more affordable drinks at an NFL stadium. If drinks were more reasonable ($5-$7), we'd be coming up a lot more often but we find ourselves going elsewhere because we don't feel like spending $50 on 4 cocktails. The staff is always friends though and they do make good drinks. This is a good relaxing bar to go to when you just want to unwind but I definitely would not recommend it if budget is a concern.

The wait staff was great, we however didn't have such luck with our food. Two ladies in n our group ordered steaks ($30) BTW asked for medium rare got well done. Astmosphere was great relaxing but the fire pits make a loud buzzing nose which was annoying.

The best scenery and atmosphere in Rapid City, and the Cheese plate is a great value. The fish taco's are good as well. Please stock a different NA beer. I'm not fond of Kaliber. Overall, an essential Rapid City experience.

This place is my favorite place in Rapid! The bartending staff is always spot on with the cocktails and the view is the best. Relaxing and fun at the same time!
