Review Frank’s Restaurant Grill & Bar - Prairieville

Derek Burnham
Down home atmosphere, amazing food and second to none service. The variety of savory dishes served here are nothing short of incredible. I’ve had one of the best: omelets, hamburger steaks, chicken fried steaks, seafood pasta with crab cakes, hamburgers, char grilled oysters, seafood platters, and fried catfish plates I’ve ever had. OMG can you say RANCH DRESSING, I’ll put their’s up against anywhere! BTW the grilled squash is my favorite side dish.

Great food nothing was left to take home. Prices are on the expensive side. Highly recommend when you're in the area.

The food is fantastic and the service is great!! Definitely recommend the stuffed french toast with strawberries for breakfast!! I have also had the chicken-n-dumplins which tasted like my grandma used to make however I was a bit disappointed with the number of dumplings compared to the size of the bowl.

I always turn my nose up at the idea of going out for breakfast because to me, it's so simple to make at home. However, this restaurant blew me away! Their breakfast menu is so creative and inventive. I had the breakfast biscuits with the Creole sauce and shrimp, and my mom had the French toast with strawberries and homemade whipped cream. Absolutely, ridiculously delicious. Worth the trip any way you cut it. Great, fast service too considering how busy the restaurant was!

Sausage and egg biscuit was the original order. What was made was a sausage and cheese biscuit. The biscuit did not taste fresh, it was stale in some areas. The sausage patty was slightly overcooked, and it did not taste fresh either. The cheese was cold.

We are new to the area and love brunch. Google suggested this place. We’ve been 2 times with friends and we’ve enjoyed every visit. If your dieting, this ain’t the spot for you. Their food is soo good, there is no way you’ll leave without a full belly. Staff is friendly and no matter how busy they appear to be, they are moving so the waits aren’t bad. Once seated, our food always came out timely and fresh. Definitely a regular spot for us.

The lunch menu is good. But the breakfast was horrible. The coffee and milk is outrageously overpriced. Coffee has a watered down taste. The “hash browns” are large cubed potatoes with no seasoning. I mean, salt and pepper would have been nice. The cheddar and bacon omelet was not good. I don’t know what kind of bacon they use, but it has a bad flavor. Biscuits were good. But $3.50 per person for coffee and $3.97 for one cup of chocolate milk is ridiculous. Not going back for breakfast. Your service can be good, but if your prices are high and the food isn’t good, what’s the point?!

Solid diner food with the service you’d expect from a down home local joint. I’ve never been able to bring myself to order anything that wasn’t breakfast, but my wife and kids tell me everything else is also quite tasty. I’ll just have to trust them in that. For my money the biscuits are some of the best in country, I’m craving one now as I write this review.

As good as the icon in Baton Rouge location. Good all the time but best breakfast around. The alligator sausage is my personal favorite. It’s delish! Love the biscuits too. If you haven’t been here you are missing something.

Was in town from Little Rock and stopped for breakfast. The most delicious biscuits in the World! Great food, outstanding service!! Will be back!

One of my favorite places to go! There are so many choices from breakfast to dinner! They have great service and the food always tastes great.

I don't normally post reviews on restaurants, good or bad, but I needed to get this off of my chest. Frank's has good food, there's no denying that. But what's got me writing this review is the way they treat their employees. One in particular. I'd hope that by you reading this review, it would turn you off from this business and cause you to spend your money elsewhere. My girlfriend was employed there and spent many years there to have a stable income for her daughter. As many of you know, she's currently in college full time for Chemical Engineering and has accepted a summer internship in Michigan. This past weekend she let the restaurant know FOUR MONTHS in advance that she will need 12 weeks off for this great opportunity and planned on picking up her shifts when she returned to Louisiana at the beginning of August. In less than 24 hours, they call her back to tell her that she's "let go" effective immediately and that she was being replaced. So by her thinking she was doing them a favor and giving them so much time to cover just 12 Sunday's over the summer, it ended up backfiring and she lost employment over it. She didn't have a bad reputation there. She's a great, hard worker. Great with talking to people. An ideal person to have as an employee in the restaurant industry. And not to mention, many guests loved her and looked forward to seeing her or sitting in her section. This is a classic case of poor management. The management here is not capable of handling employee needs/requests and apparently if they don't like what you ask for, they just get rid of you. There was one other situation that occurred last year. Her uncle was getting married in Florida on a Sunday. She put in her request 2-3 weeks in advance and her shift was covered. A few days before the wedding, they fired the girl that was covering her shift and called her and told her she had to come to work and threatened to fire her. She had to basically beg for them to keep her because there wasn't any way possible that she was going to be able to make it to work that weekend. For this reason, i will never dine here again and I will make it a point to spread by word of mouth how heartless, unappreciative and incapable the management is here. Not to mention, the actual manager of the restaurant couldn't tell her himself, the hiring/scheduling woman had to tell her over text message. <br/> <br/>I can always find another place to eat breakfast. For instance, Mamas in Gonzales, LA, which has better biscuits anyway.<br/><br/>If you feel the same way that I do please do me a favor and like and share this post to spread the word.

This place is always busy, surrounded by lots of cars, and for good reason:  the food is great.  A lot of variety, and if it's not on the menu, just ask.  They'll do any combination you want.  We had the Cajun eggs benedict.  It comes with grits, but we subbed chunky fried potatoes.  The classic hollandaise sauce had cajun seasoning (not too much) and tiny shrimp.  Instead of an english muffin, they used giant, fluffy, homemade biscuits.  The ham was a huge slice, seared on the grill with absoloutely the best flavor I've ever had (not too salty) just right.  I didn't try the ultimate Bloody Mary (17.95) but will on another trip.  I'm told it's a meal in itself.  The staff was friendly.  There was a bit of a wait, about 30 mintues, but there were a LOT of people there.  There's some original art inside, and lots of unique items in the gift shop.  Spoke to some folks inside that had been going there since the 90's.  It's definately got a lot of character, reminds me of Gwennies in Alaska, well worth the trip.

I would have given it a higher rating, because the food is pretty good, but today, I went in and while it was busy, most customers were being served and were happy.  I sat there for an hour with a menu in front of me watching others be seated after me, ordering before me, and getting their food, without a waitress showing up at my table at all.  I got coffee delivered by an older gentleman (management?) who asked if anybody had been by to take a drink order, and I told him nobody had been by at all.  He brought me coffee and went away.  I snagged another waitress and asked for some sweetener because my table didn't have any at all.  She brought it and went away.  After an hour went by and nobody noticed I still had a big ol' menu sitting on the table in front of me, I asked another waitress (who, by the way, had been filling salt shakers and such and had to apologize when someone brought out food for one of her tables that she had been unaware of) who my waitress was.  Ten more minutes passed, and I got up to leave.  Like magic, a waitress was by my side asking me if she could make it right, but by that time it was too late.  That was unacceptable, and even though I've been happy with them in the past, I would hesitate to go back again, especially on a weekend day when they have more than half their tables filled, because their staff doesn't know how to handle it.

The service at Frank's is always fast and friendly. This is a great place for family time! We are happy and full every time we leave! Sit at the bar on a Sunday morning to see how fast the kitchen pumps out food!

Food is fantastic and service second to none. Recommend this place any day. They have made a regular out of me. I had the western omelet, great!

I've eaten at the Baton Rouge and liked it. Not so at the Prairieville location. Over cooked, reheated, and just bland. On top of that, the place could use a good cleaning.

Left a bad taste in my mouth!. Oyster po-boy and brisket po-boy has bun slathered in butter that had a wang (either rancid, or at best some unnatural margarine type product. It was not toasted, but the "butter" was just melted. There were three oysters on one half of the po-boy and four on the other. The oysters were not even warm, and the iceberg lettuce on the sandwich included the tough heart. My husband's brisket po-boy also had the heavy margarine flavor. Louisiana has too many great casual diners; my advice is to skip this one.

The food was awful.... Bad bbq, tried to save it with bbq sauce....bad bbq sauce.<br/><br/>Everything was sticky and hadn't been wiped down.<br/><br/>The waitress was making a big show of how she was too good to hand a lightbulb to a guy on a ladder. Some nonsense about it being beneath her to do so.<br/><br/>She tried to involve me in the joke by asking, "how many waitresses does it take to change a lightbulb?" Being that I already had my nasty food, I replied honesty, "One, if she still wants to have a job by next week."<br/><br/>Watching the back, the guys are hustling, but a lack of experience, or tastebuds, means it gets lost somewhere...

Rude to the kilt. Not only were the waitresses rude, and wishing they were "NOT on the clock" to take care of a customer. Who was just wanting a receipt showing she had been credited. But when I was faced with the same exact issue with in minutes, management was far more aggressive than the waitresses. Apparently they have all the customers they need. I suggest you try another place.

Frank's should stick to what it does best which is breakfast. <br/>For the first time I decided to order a 2 meat barbecue plate for $14.95(expensive for the small portions). I chose the ribs and brisket with 2 sides. The brisket was okay, but the ribs were as hard as a brick. I took one bite of the ribs which were very dry and very chewy - far from being tender. I asked the waitress to please take the ribs back. She replaced it with some smoked chicken. The chicken also was very over cooked and the meat was awful. <br/>I noticed in another Trip Advisor review of Frank's that the reviewer stated the ribs he ordered were over cooked. Apparently, this wasn't a bad rib day as the waitress said the cook stated. It seems the ribs may be consistently over cooked. The sides of beans and a sweet potato casserole were no big deal taste wise. <br/>Finally, when I went to the register to pay, I was asked was everything okay? I said no the ribs and chicken were over cooked and terrible tasting. They didn't offer to compensate me for the poor meal. <br/>I will not be back for Frank's meats again.

Food was ok environment isn't that nice <br/>Asked for regular French toast and was given a more expensive French toast which I assumed was regular then was charged for the exspenive one which they couldn't fix because it was eaten... Poor management

Bad breakfast.... Have eaten many times since we live in South Baton Rouge and love a traditional southern breakfast. Service has been great usually but occasionally have had so so food. <br/><br/>This morning the French Toast arrived raw, twice, then our server mixed up her tables and our neighbor paid for our meal, less than 20 dollars when he and his two grandsons ordered more than 30 dollars in food. Our waitress suggested that we just pay it as it was only a few dollars more. Like 14 dollars more. <br/><br/>Rectified the order then a juice that we didn't order or receive was added. So two tabs later, our order which still had the French Toast that was inedible was paid. Won't be back.

Nice Spot for Breakfast. I've eaten here a few times, and I prefer their breakfast far more than their lunch and dinner menu. Biscuits are pretty good, nice selection of omelets, good pancakes and nice hash browns. Portion sizes are large. Always a nice choice for a good filling breakfast. Lunch and dinner is a different story, as I have yet to try anything on this menu I truly enjoyed. Best bet... go for a good, hearty breakfast. Good thing is, you can order breakfast all day.

Best in the South. This place is known for their breakfast, but the best kept secrete is they are open for dinner in Prairieville. Bet you didn't know they had a chef!! Wow the food at night is just as good as the best night time restaurants around. Got to give them another try. Remember they are a family owned and operated business. Can't get that everywhere. Support the locals. Keep your money in town.

The food is great here. But the real treat is the feeling of family from the entire staff. I've never felt more welcome in an eatery.

Above average because they try.. Another more or less honest place. ‘Less” because they do seem to be aware of their country kitsch value, though not as deeply as Cracker Barrel.<br/><br/>White beans and rice were actually cooked here, it seems, with large strings of lean pickled pork and distinction of real dots of green onion. So, I’m guessing they’re not canned. Sausage accompaniment is standard for Baton Rouge. It was tolerable. At least it had girll marks.<br/><br/>I don’t think it was Mands. That’s a strong certainty because I know Manda. It is Baton Rouge’s city sausage. They fry it at the tailgating at Tiger Stadium, Through years of deprivation of actual sausage, the Baton Rougeouisie have come to literally believe Manda is edible. Manda is a Bar S hot dog if the Bar S factory’s quality control filters are out of the building being cleaned. It’s flavor is corn syrup. The Baton Rouges eat it and smile. Because they are stupid.<br/><br/>Anyway, don’t believe the local hype about Frank’s biscuits. They’re not some kind of out-of-this-world fantastic. They’re not ready-portioned Sister Schubert’s but they’re not great. So, middling on that. maybe they are better at breakfast time.<br/><br/>The greens are superior and seem done in the kitchen. They have bits of meatstuffs that are lean and real.<br/><br/>Catfish is All You Can Eat on Tuesday nights. Tried locations on Airline and Prairieville. Hot, clean filets of catfish, not bassa, not Mekong sewer fish. Tasted like clean pond catfish. AYCE comes with several sides. But you don’t want to fill up on sides.<br/><br/>If Frank’s is getting ingredients from a can, they’re at least doctoring well past concealing it.<br/><br/>A solid B. Would be a B+ if the biscuits had lived up to their rabid local reputation. But then, Baton Rouge raves about that good ol’ Manda sausage.

GOOD BREAKFAST BISCUITS. I'm not much on their dinner items but the Breakfast items are where it's at. The breakfast biscuits are huge and very good.

Omelets are terrible. Ordered a Mexican omelet 10/29/11, came with salsa instead of chili, ordered meat lovers omelet on 10/30/11, didn't have any turkey on it. I realize mistakes happen but 2 mistakes in 2 consecutive days? That's enough for me to not return. :-(

Best bisquits ever. Ever. Don't bring a vegetarian. Smokehouse meats and sweet tea.

Great place for a good weekend breakfast.... I've only been there for breakfast but I can tell you that the food is good and the place gets very crowded on a Sunday morning. They give generous portions are are very reasonably priced. I highly recommend their biscuits and also their hash browns.
