As a visitor to the area I decided to stop by this wonderful restaurant. The atmosphere and overall experience the building and dining room itself provide is beautiful, and a great place to just have some good food with friends or family. Both of the staff members I met during my visit were kind and provided great service. I ordered the chicken parm and the side of bread and all I have to say are good things. For one person the meal sizing was perfect, and the food came out hot and tasted delicious! Would 100% recommended this place to anyone in the area.

We were so pleased to see this restaurant open after recently moving here. It must have been thirty years ago since our last visit. We dared to walk in without a reservation and the staff was very accommodating. The food was excellent, one of the best meals we have had around Portland since moving here. Service was wonderful. We will be back soon. This time with a reservation to leave nothing to chance.

Everything was great! Started with house salad, Mozz salad and mussels with focaccia for the table. Loved the eggplant parmesan and short rib ragu. The choc flourless and strawberry tiramisu were excellent!

We went last Thursday and the place was pretty empty, but no worries there. I am always amazed to go by restaurants that are almost as expensive and not nearly as nice, that are full of hipsters. Anyways, service was top notch, the atmosphere was warm and had a casual elegance to it. The wine pairing recommendations were spot on. The food was really good. I will go back. Btw, people should consider the familiar and not just always flock to the newest trendy spot.

We revisited the Roma café with friends. I was expecting it to be just like it was when I was a child. I have never seen such poor service, and not to mention we ordered garlic bread. Now mind you…it was one slice for two people, at a ridiculous price!
You mean to tell me they couldn’t afford a simple slice of Italian bread for two people come on! My husband ordered a pasta dish . The amount of pasta in the dish was ridiculous as well! Maybe a half a cup. I wanted to say to the person putting together the menu or the manager, listen Portland is a foodie town! It has made the James Beard award for many of his restaurants! It has been noted in the Downeast magazine and many other famous magazines. If you people want to keep up with the rest of the wonderful cuisines in Portland, you need to revisit your menu, your portions, and maybe the friendliness of your staff. Very unsatisfied with our visit.

Quaint unassuming spot with flavorful Italian dishes and beautiful cozy decor. Can’t beat their prices either when it come to top notch quality food in Portland. Will definitely return.

Tonight we enjoyed the most delicious meal at the Roma. From start to finish everything was beyond delicious!!
The service was wonderful too!
Thank you to all for such a beautiful evening. Looking forward to next year when we are back in Maine!

This place ruined our entire evening. We had such a good day until we came to Roma. We eat out all the time and mostly upscale fine dining restaurants. My wife and I have never had such a terrible experience like we did at Roma. We arrived at 730, on time for our reservation. We were seated and immediately order appetizers, bread service and wine. Our bread service came out in about 25 minutes and the bread was cold. Our waitress Michelle was almost dumbfounded when I asked why the bread wasn’t warm. “Oh, you want it warm?” She asked. Why would I ever want ice cole bread. Our wine came shortly after which we tried and enjoyed. Then another 30 minutes passed. Thats right, it took an HOUR for our Meatball appetizer. It was good, but not worth the hour wait. The appetizer was okay, but we eagerly awaited our meal. Oh, I forgot to mention their Air Conditioning was not working. When we asked if a window could be opened, it was though we were asking the meaning of life. And no, a window could not be opened. So there we sat, in the stifling heat for over an hour and a half before our entrees arrived. I should also mention the people across from us. The fine staff lost their ticket, so they promptly left, as hungry as we were. Finally our entrees arrived. The food was fine, but not worth the hour and a half we waited. Meanwhile, of course, the Chef’s girlfriend who was there, got all of their food right away. What a way to treat customers! Once our food came, our waitress Michelle, wanted to comp two desserts. We asked if we could have one dessert (which they advised we wouldn’t be able to take with us) and then she could comp the dessert and appetizer. When she brought back the bill, it showed the dessert still on there. “We’ll I comped the meatballs and the ($2) bread service.” After my wife and I both agreed that was silly, she finally agreed to comp what we had asked. Still, paying over $100 for the terrible service, slow arrival of dishes and the heat we endured inside the restaurant, seemed over the top. Safe to say we will not be back, and we will tell everyone to stay FAR AWAY from Roma Cafe.
Terrible experience, terrible service and a great way to ruin, otherwise, a fantastic day in Portland. Do yourself a favor and don’t go to Roma Cafe.

One of the best meals that I’ve had in Portland, atmosphere was great as were the drinks. The waitress Jenna was awesome well informed on the menu and made great conversation. I will absolutely be back there again soon with my friends and family.

Roma's atmosphere is quaint and the service was very good. Our fried calamari and meatball appetizers wer e excellent. Our main courses fell a little short. Although my veal marsala was very flavorful the veal was tough. The shrimp in the scampi was overcooked and the eggplant parmesan was thin with to much breading. There was more Green Beans on the plate then pasta. We were hoping for more.

Service here was impeccable and the delivery and presentation of food was excellent. Place was small but intimate and romantic even though I sat at the bar as I was alone the food was amazing and tasted like I made it at my home but even better five stars
