Excellent experience! It was my boyfriend's birthday and I wanted to treat him to a special dinner. From the moment we were greeted, they made sure it was a special time for him. They even gave him a birthday card, which I found especially thoughtful. On top of that, the food was absolutely stunning and extremely delicious! Will definitely be recommending this restaurant to everyone!

Our recent visit to Scales happened on a Wednesday between Christmas and New Years. The place was full, and energetic, but not uncomfortably so. We arrived 20 minutes early and they were able to accommodate us immediately.
Between all of our guests we tried oysters, duck liver mousse, the calamari, the steak, the halibut (excellent - and I’m not a regular fish eater) and a trio of desserts (the butterscotch sundae was so good). The only item we agreed we wouldn’t order again is the chocolate cake, but that should speak more to our personal tastes rather than its quality.
Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The complementary valet was extremely helpful. And the restaurant was decorated beautifully for the holidays.
Can not wait to return next time we visit Portland

The Halibut was to die for, although I would prefer to survive and have it again.
The cornbread was a hit…it hit the spot.
Our guests loved the flat fish.
The decor and ambiance fit a Portland experience perfectly.

I have heard really good things about this restaurant, to be honest I was not that impressed. The halibut was very sour and salty. The texture of the fish was spectacular, but I did not love the flavor. I thought the 4 fingerling potatoes were tasty, but the plate needed something not beige on it. It was just a very brown meal.
I had an appetizer of fried cauliflower the cauliflower was almost raw inside, not how I like fried cauliflower.
Overall the atmosphere was really fun. The service was top notch. Our server was the perfect level of attentive and helpful but completely non-obtrusive.
The second picture is my friend's lobster which he did really enjoy.

This place came highly recommended and we went in with high expectations. Quality of fish was fantastic. For $30-$50 mains, cooking technique, flavours & presentation were lacking. They served the same browned butter lemon hazelnut sauce with both the Octopus & halibut. It was just flavoured butter with toasted hazelnuts thrown in which is a fire combination but I expected more finesse in preparation considering the price of the dishes. Great portion sizes though, so maybe you’re paying for that. Halibut was slightly overcooked. Dessert was great. Had the honey cake.

Our 1 year anniversary trip to Portland started with this amazing restaurant! All of the staff were so kind and courteous! Lee was especially a wonderful waitress! From the halibut with hazelnut (what a combination) to the oysters from the raw bar to the delicious seafood stew, our palats were treated to a wonderful dining experience. And let's not forget about the dessert! Seriously some of the best dessert you'll find in Portland.
All in all, a perfect beginning to our trip!

The food was great, we had a couple cups of chowder while we waited outside for a table, the cocktail server was great (didn't get his name). Seconds after being sat at a small table near the bar, the host spilled a glass of champagne in my lap (happens). Our server was MIA for a short while in the beginning but someone came by to let us know he would be over soon.... we ordered halibut ceviche for an app which was amazing.... lobster salad and a scallop dish, also amazing. BUT our server never came back to check on us once during our meal..... very disappointing service in the dining room (while it seemed like there was a lot of servers standing around, nobody was over to check on us)... also the girl who dropped our food off at our table seemed to be very miserable.
Our meal made the experience worth it, but I would probably not return based on the very dodgy service.... sorry Scales!

This place was amazing, my husband took me for my birthday last night and it was so delicious! We got half a dozen oysters, the octopus with chorizo which was AMAZING and I’ve never had octopus before, tuna and duck for entrees. Everything was perfect and our server was so knowledgeable about everything.

Wonderful service, beautifully presented raw bar, delicious fresh fish entrees. Our group of 6 had 2 dozen assorted oysters and scallops as well as steamers for an appetizer. We had the haddock and scallop entrees which were cooked and presented perfectly. Our server, Meryl was excellent.

Unbelievable comes to mind. I own the Inn At Park Spring B&B here in Portland. We send a lot of our guests to eat at Scales. We finally had the opportunity to go ourselves. I can't say enough good things about it. Service Great!!! Atmosphere even better. Food was fantastic!!!
