We love compote and miss it!! When are you reopening?
A dear friend took me here for my birthday, and Quaintrelle is now my new favorite special occasion restaurant in Portland! The meal was spectacular, the service was impeccable, and the drinks were very tasty! We ended up ordering a la carte and sharing in hopes that we wouldn't be too stuffed, but alas we failed in that aspect. We rolled ourselves home, full and happy after this incredible meal. Our server was funny and attentive and overall amazing. I can't wait to go back.
Staff was knowledgeable and friendly, Staff was attentive without intruding on your evening experience. All the dishes were explained when brought out. If the chef had any recommendations on how to eat the item it was conveyed. The food was a well thought out experience of flavor and textures. We were by the kitchen so being able to watch the staff interact and prepare the intricate dishes was an added bonus.
Amazing experience! We both ordered the 7 course tasting menu. Getting our first dishes was a little slow (very busy) but our server brought us complimentary champagne without us saying anything. High quality food, beautiful presentation and you could tell the staff was proud of their dishes. On my list of best places in Portland - excited to go back again!
Went to Quaintrelle for our anniversary. We like checking out new places, and Quaintrelle did not disappoint. We did the 7 course chef menu. The food was absolutely delicious. I was blown away by their complimentary focaccia (it was out of this world good!) and the buckwheat ice cream! My only regret is that we didn't do the 10 course menu.
Where to begin? We found this spot looking for ‘most romantic restaurants in Portland’ - and it delivered. Located in a peaceful, quiet area, the ambiance of the outdoor seating set a welcoming tone. The staff were so warm and personable, expert guides to navigate the fabulously diverse menu. We ordered 4 a la carte options + dessert, which was a perfect amount for two people. This is an excellent date night / anniversary spot - the presentation of each dish is so colorful and creative.
My only feedback of something to change would be that the music selection - a trance-y, loud mish-mash that felt out of step with the rest of the vibe - could be improved in the future.
Otherwise, already plotting our next visit!
We’ve only visited for happy hour having one round of cocktails and a few small plates. The space is nice but the “bar” only has three seats. There are two large outdoor heated seating areas. The cocktails and bread and oysters were all superb. I look forward to coming back for dinner, having as many courses as possible.
Highly recommend! Fresh, high quality and incredible flavor in every dish. In speaking with the staff, they get all their ingredients locally at the farmers market so the menu often changes.
I did the a la carte menu but they have a tasting menu with options for 5/7/9 plates. My waitress mentioned it includes dishes not listed on the a la carte menu so when I come back, I'll definitely do the tasting menu! For 3 plates and a mocktail it cost ~$105 after taxes and tip but having been here now, I'd definitely do the tasting menu which starts at $105.
Appetizer: Oysters/nuac cham/pear/hibiscus/sambal
Entree: black cod/cabbage/jimmy nardello/almond/miso
Dessert: "Under pressure" - baklava/kulfi/compressed apple (perfect portion size for a dessert)
Drink: A delicious mocktail the bartender made with non alcoholic rum, ginger beer, bitters, grapefruit and something else (soooo yummy)
My partner and I came in for a late Valentine’s Day celebration and had a great experience. We enjoyed high quality food, fun cocktails, an exciting atmosphere, and respectful service.
We got the 7 course tasting menu, and were very impressed with 5 of the courses. 2 were good, but we just weren’t wowed by them. I have a shellfish allergy and they accommodated it very well, cleverly substituting a scallop with a parsnip, which ended up being my favorite course. I also loved the focaccia and chanterelle mushroom dish, and will be dreaming about the house tapioca for weeks to come.
The hamachi was a tasty cut, but the pomegranate vinaigrette paired with granny apples was too tart for my taste. The chicken Kiev was a bit bland and didn’t excite us.
The servers were all very knowledgeable of the food and attentive to tables. I could tell they were passionate about the food they were serving, which adds a lot to the experience.
Will definitely be returning soon!
The food is worth trying. Spending just under 3 hours to receive 7 courses with loud house music was too exhausting though. They need to improve their speed.
This is a high-quality/high-price fine dining experience tucked away on Clinton Street. We opted for the 10-course experience with wine pairings, which is, to be clear, a hefty outlay of cash. And I'm happy to say that it was worth it. This is a nice spot run by people who care. The food was all interesting and delicious, and the wines were paired up nicely (10 pairings!).
Quaintrelle is aiming at providing a world-class dining experience and they're hitting. I hope that people recognize this restaurant for what it is doing and embrace it. Given the cost of entry, I don't think this is a place i'll return to more than once a year. But I will absolutely return and I'm looking forward to seeing how their menu changes with the seasons.
We try many of the great pdx restaurants nearly once per month for years. Quaintrelle has some of the most attentive service, top tier bar wine list and crazy crazy good food. Top notch, highly recommended!
Shockingly, expensive and fancy restaurants routinely mess up THE simplest drink like a Negroni. Sometimes warm, served on the rocks (yuck) portions wrong. Like it’s 3 (&$@$! ingredients — pay attention! Quaintrelle’s simple Negroni was absolutely perfect. That means they are actually paying attention.
The rest of the meal and wine service was equally flawless.
I wandered in tonight with my fist edition Edith Wharton, torn jeans like a Taylor Swift song, hoping for a glass of wine and maybe some bread... I left with a memory, and a new favorite place to call home.
The food was beyond compare, and I won't even try to spell it because I can't, but no one made me feel like I didn't belong. I'd just point at the menu, and hope for the best, and I was met with understanding and hospitality.
Who knew butter could be whipped that beautifully? I say that as someone that now makes their own...
If you're looking for a spot to call your own, or maybe take a date - look no further.
A delightful eating experience and wonderful service. Initially, I was hesitant to do the tasting menu because I was so underwhelmed by a similar style restaurant in Portland. Needless to say, my expectations were met and exceeded. My wife and I got 5 courses, & I wish we had gotten 7 or 9. Courses were well balanced, complex but not overly complicated. Great place to introduce young kids to options and dining experiences they may not have had yet. Our waitress was pleasant and had lots of personality. I look forward to returning with friends and family.
Dining here is always beautiful in flavors and plating with constantly changing plates based on what's in season and the cocktails are incredible. The vibe here is an elegant escape whether dining indoors or in their bamboo forest back patio. I don't know what they do with their focaccia but I can't resist getting it every time It's like crack
One of my favorite meals over the last 2 years and as good as the two Michelin starred restaurants I ate at in Las Vegas last week. We had the 5 course tasting menu and regretted not getting the 9 because everything was so delicious. The wine pairings were on point. Service was excellent. Note: you must provide proof of vaccination to dine here.
This restaurant is absolutely phenomenal. From the atmosphere, to the service, food, and drinks. Each dish is multi-faceted and thoughtfully presented. Great for vegetarian and meat eaters alike. Do yourself a favor and go here NOW. Try the chefs tasting menu with the wine pairing. You will not be disappointed.
Absolutely amazing food, plating, beverages, and service.
The bar has drinks I've never heard of before, including, my favorite, "A Little Pep", with 114 proof bourbon, turmeric, ginger, topped with a pickled peppercorn. Eat the peppercorn before taking your first sip.
We highly recommend the 10-course tasting menu ($195) with wine pairings ($105). There is also a 7-course option for $155/$85. Expensive, and worth it.
If you're really lucky, you'll get Nick as your waiter. He's knowledgeable and hilarious.
Great food and service and worth the price. It's a small place so you'll need reservations. The drink parsing is great and they give a lot of alcohol me and my girlfriend shared one and it was more than enough!
The food, the vibe, the drinks were amazing! My wife and I enjoyed the 7 course dinner and we were so happy with the quality of food, portions (generous, but not sickeningly so), and the service. We each had a cocktail and a glass of wine and a la carte vs the drinking menu, because we didn’t want to overindulge. Price was high, especially for Portland, but worth it for a special occasion or just to really treat yourself to non stuffy fine dining. Only nit, I ordered truffle with my ravioli and was disappointed at the sparse amount that was grated vs thinly sliced, as I would have expected given the cost. My wife ordered hers without truffle and we couldn’t discern a material difference. Looking forward to going again tho!
