Sometimes life works out that way. We came to the Killingsworth Station pod for Mexican food, written up in the "Portland Mercury". However, everything was sold out at that food cart, plus many of the other eateries were closed by the time we arrived. To the rescue: Bark City BBQ! It won't be our second choice ever again. Opened just a month ago, Bark City seems destined for southern BBQ greatness. Owner Michael Keskin, with many years as an executive chef under his belt and he's even worked as a pitmaster, lovingly cranks out luscious, perfect pulled pork -- not the kind that's overcooked into oblivion or overdone with fake liquid smoke. His is juicy and tasty. And, omg, his sides are to die for, too. Try the creamy, chunky, flavourful potato salad and the just-like-mom's coleslaw. Sadly, the pickled avocado was sold out or I would have tried that. He's got a lot of offerings on the menu other than pulled pork so I hope to get back to sample something else. Whatever you do, don't, I repeat, do not pass on the Banana Pudding Milkshake. It will sit nicely on top of your full tummy. You're welcome.
Mouthwatering deliciousness!! I had one of the specials of the day, the South Carolina pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac & cheese, it was so flavorful! I ate every scrumptious bite. The Mac & cheese was super creamy with bacon, tiny bits of jalapeño & crumbled potato chips on top. It was so incredibly good. The pork belly on the sandwich was a strip of heaven on an already yummy sandwich. Will definitely be back.
Had a chance to try the Barky Burger and it was delicious! Definitely worth a try. The side of mac and cheese was also wonderful and is a must try. The sausage was also tasty, but the burger and mac n cheese stole the show for me.
Ordered sliced brisket with coleslaw and pickled avocado. The brisket is great, peppery fatty and fork tender. Coleslaw was pretty good, never had pickled avocado before but it's a great match with the rest. Tried the house bbq sauce, redeye and mustard; they were all pretty good, but the redeye was by far my favorite with the brisket, suggested by the guy at the window. Service was a little slow but they seemed to be handling a lot of orders well. Only complaint was I ordered to go and fork napkin and garnishes all got tossed when they boxed it off the tray.
Brisket plate. Three slices of brisket, coleslaw, and pickled avocado. My husband gave this a 5 out of 5 and would do it again. The dish was $22 before the tip.
They have the best brisket (sliced) sandwich! Its tender, moist, and not overly salty. It has the perfect balance of smoke, lean/fat ratio, with a charred cap! The pickled avocado is a MUST try and elevates the sandwich to the next level. No need for extra sauce because it would just take away from the the taste meat. But if you must, the red eye BBQ goes well with it. I can't wait to visit again!
1/2lb ribs, 1/4lb brisket, potato salad and baked beans. Best BBQ I’ve ever had. Definitely going back next time I’m craving BBQ again.
I'm in town for business and wanted to try out a local BBQ place. After looking online a little, Bark City looked pretty good. It wasn't too hard to find parking. The gentleman that took my order was very friendly. I got the turkey breast, baked beans, cornbread, and a root beer. The turkey was perfect. The Alabama sauce, which came on the side, was great. I'd definitely eat here again.
OMG... Guys. I've been looking for this since I moved to PDX 6 years ago. This is some of the best BBQ I have ever had. Everything on the tray was fantastic. Brisket, Potato Salad, Beans, Cornbread and all the sauces. Everything was super flavorful and nuanced, the brisket had just the right amount of fat on it to make it melt in your mouth. Potato salad was creamy, beans were peppery and the cornbread was moist. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Including the banana pudding milkshake.
Came here on a whim and I realized I found the best BBQ place in North Portland. Owners are awesome, and they'll experiment with weekly specials (pictured below, the Triple Oink Sandwich). Do yourself a favor and try this.
Always exceptional quality bbq. Best brisket (year-round) and beef ribs (summertime). Michael has lots of experience working kitchens around the metro area, and has dedicated his career to focus on being Portlands #1 pit master! Try the pickled avocado. He's already won over this guy. Rip City!!
