I always have a wonderful experience every time I visit Black Bear diner! It's where I come when I need comfort food. Service is always great, and I bring everyone here whenever I get the chance to
Stopped by for breakfast while in town. I got the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was amazing not a fan of the biscuits. I tasted my friends pancakes and omg you have to get some. Delicious! Also my friends sandwich was so good.
I also asked for a sunset mimosa and they forgot it until we asked twice 🥺. Once I got it - i got a regular mimosa. But they were nice enough to not charge me.
I would recommend this place, majority of the food is great and service is good.
Great quality food, family orientated environment, and awesome portions! I love that they have so many vegetarian options. In general I'm a fan. It's not that interesting or unique like some Portland spots, just a good reliable diner food chain. That is not a bad thing. It's also fun for kids and better than Denny's IHOP or Shari's for sure.
Sunday. Aug 20th, 2023, I invited my younger brother here because, usually, I had a great time with my friends until today he found a metal string or spring inside of his meal. Check pics. I'll go again, but next time, I gonna dig deeply and make small pieces to eat very carefully. They're still good yummy meals.
One of my favorite eating establishments. Food, service always great. Love their bacon. Then there's those little pies, I suggest picking up on the way out. Otherwise later that night hunger hits and you be wishing you had one.
We came on the Friday before Christmas and they were understandably busy. My order was wrong at first but fixed very quickly. Service was slow but again, holiday weekend and all, and everyone was very friendly if overworked. The biggest plus for me today was that in a year and a half of taking our kiddo to restaurants, this is the VERY FIRST ONE in the entire Portland area whose high chairs were actually clean, straps and all. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that. We’ll be back after the holidays to try you guys again!
The food was good. The new York steak was a little chewy. $80 for 4 people to eat lunch. I love there wood work around the place. Atmosphere got a 4 star. They lost a star for being in Portland. It's always uncomfortable in Portland. They do lift Portland up. With what they're doing. Too bad the rest of the city doesn't fallow they're theam.
Wow!!
For the first time eating here it was great and good food. The service was great as well. I have never ate here but I couldn't pass a good deal for steak and eggs. 😁 awesome place. I will come back and try something else.
I've seen Black Bear Diners in a few places but hadn't been before. I love breakfasts out, and next time i see one I'm going back.
Coffee was great. The menu selection was just what i want from a good breakfast place.
Biscuits and gravy were great. Bacon is fabulous. Pancakes were okay.
I want to go back and try more!
We had a superb, filling dinner an hour ago at Black Bear Diner at 3737 SE 82nd Ave, Portland, OR. The food and service were excellent. The motif is consistent throughout with a wood theme like a cabin. You could almost ignore the busy 82nd Avenue just outside the window. The restaurant is clean, the service was immediate then non-intrusive, and our server checked to be sure we were satisfied with our meal. The roasted turkey with mashed potatoes, covered with gravy, with a side of bacon-piece green beans was delicious. The portion size is generous, so have room, or go for the littler meal option. Try if you can to leave room for their pies; you can buy one as you leave. This is a friendly neighborhood restaurant without the feeling of a national chain.
Besides the woman cussing her 80 year old mother out from the table across from us and yes I asked to be moved after a while.
Food was pretty good. I liked the vibes there. Very family friendly. It was nice and clean.
My wife and I tried breakfast for the first time at Black Bear, we've ate dinner but never breakfast. O.M.G. we couldn't believe the size of your home made biscuits. You might as well serve a loaf of bread. We loved the food we ordered off the menu. It doesn't matter if its breakfast, lunch, or dinner you eat here the food is awesome as,well as the servers and atmosphere of your establishment. Keep up the great work. We will be back and will tell family and friends to give Black Bear a try. Thank you👍👍♥️♥️
It's a really good diner. Perfect for stick-to-your-ribs hearty meals, but the pancakes and waffles are the standouts. They are massive and dense, yet fluffy. I wish they were open later at night though.
I was not expecting much by going to a chain restaurant, but honestly we had a great time! Vanessa our server was funny and engaging. The food was very tasty and came out in good time. The price for what you get is good.
Everything was absolutely delicious. A few points off because they forgot my bacon but I was so stuffed, it was ok
This place gets busy! It was worth the wait though. The food was delicious and the service was great. Really enjoyed the deluxe French dip.

The night out for my Grandsons birthday.. the restaurant chosen for the gathering was closed so we went to Black Bear. It was a great choice!! I'm not from the area but the food was good & the pie was worth making a trip to have!! It wasn't a slice it was like a bowl!! Very nice presentation and yummy 😋🤤!! Big hat's off to Tamara our waitress.. she did a fantastic job taking on our unexpected crew!! It made the unexpected change in venue much more enjoyable!! Thanks Tamara!!☃️🎄❄️
