A friend recommended Chu's Eatery at SE 171st and Powell in Portland, Oregon, and now I know why she did. The front counter person is filled with familiarity and delight with each new arrival. She greeted each customer enthusiastically, asking about their pets, etc., clearly these are repeat customers. My shrimp fried rice was perfectly seasoned, with soy sauce packets available. The portion was surprisingly large, and Chu's Eatery fills it with large shrimp, not those little canned shrimp pieces you see at some places. Chu's is at the west end of a mid-size grocery and services lot. There's a convenient traffic signal for entry and departures.

This restaurant has been around for years. Dinner prices have gone up. So, I typically go for lunchonly duringthe week. I enjoy the dinner Egg Role they serve but I pay extra for it. I posted some pictures to demonstrate the difference between egg role and spring role. 😋 I hope the images speak to the taste.

The night that we went there was only one person working she was doing the bar and the waitressing I have no idea how she did it but she did but I felt really sorry for her. I can't believe that they did that to her, it took forever to get our food and then it really wasn't that great. Usually it's really good and services usually, excellent so I was really not happy but I am still going back because we are constant people who love to eat there and even though this person was alone I hope they will never do that to her again.

This has been my favorite reasturant for a long time. My family would always take us here, so I grew up going here, and the number 5 will always be my favorite. Two nights ago, I got to see the whole crew, and they remembered me from when I was little 🥹, they were excited to see how I grew up. This restaurant is one of the most warmest, kindest, best tasting ones out there. Don't let the location fool you. They are a 5 star reasturant.

There were seven of us and we were seated at a round table with a lazy Susan in the center. It was excellent it made for a great way to pass the food without having to pass the food. Sadly I didn't get a picture of that as everyone was still sitting there and I try to avoid getting people in the photos but I believe you will enjoy this restaurant!

I go here when I visit Portland, in replacement of the late and great Ding Cheong restaurant. It's my substitute chinese restaurant when Ding Cheong shut down a few years ago. I miss that place. But Chu's is still good, I'd give it 5 stars had they not got rid of their combination specials that they had forever. The C-Virus has really taken a toll on a lot of things by restaurants removing some of their patented lunch specials that they used to offer. Other than that, the food is still good and I will always come here at least once when I come to visit. Check it out, still a great place to eat.

The orange chicken actually had fresh oranges made in the sauce, the szechuan was amazing, and the egg fo young was better than I even imagined. Best Chinese food in Portland! Not even joking people. They listened to our needs and wants of spice level too 😲🤤😋 Went during lunch time today. Splurged and unwinded from the weeks termoils. The waitress said it used to be busy all the time but then people started moving away, those who knew about the place. Then new people arrive and dont think to stop in! Oh and they close at 10pm someone said they closed early. 10pm is perfect I think.

Update: Just had lunch and it was delicious. Had a fantastic and friendly waitress Susie. I highly recommend coming here for lunch!
We have ate here a few times and always enjoy the calmness. The food is excellent and just what I expect. The serving size is large. You will need a doggie bag more often than not. This has now become our #1 Chinese food Restaurant ☆☆☆☆☆

The food is good and a good value. However, I don't need to be insulted by the rude staff. I had ordered the food to go and stated I was going to pick up tickets for the new Star Wars and come back. The person serving me stated "that movie is for little girls," how rude. Food I would rate 3.5 staff service as a 0.

Service was impersonal, they seem to be friendlier with regulars. food was ok, not impressive. I had chicken yuk, my husband had beef yuk, basically same dish, different meat. my sauce was white and tasteless, his sauce was decent. I had to add soy sauce to put some taste in it. the portions are huge, could feed 2 not very hungry people. dish came with a soup that was decent. the restroom needs a serious facelift. I will not go back. they seem to not care about getting new customers. they are in an old building and seem to not want to improve it to make it more inviting to new customers

I have been going to chu's for years my anniversary was a couple of days ago I have never been treated so bad first they gave my to go order to somebody else then have me wait for them to bring it back and give me what already went out the door never offered me a discount and never got my order all the way right? I had to get a ride cuz they don't deliver. I called to complain and they were rude. And I'm just hurt they lost a good customer. I have been going there for YEARS sooo disappointed!!!!!

Don't choose Chu's. The food tastes like the décor looks. This restaurant has been around for a long time but I had never tried before. The waitstaff was nice and attentive. The food was plentiful and inexpensive. But the good stops there. I ordered Szechuan chicken which was way too sweet and didn't have even a hint of spice. My fiance's kung pao chicken was bland and, once again, had no heat at all. The décor is as boring and bland as the food and looks like it hasn't been changed in thirty years. And the fortune cookies were so stale we had to spit them out into our napkins. If you really like lo-mein, sweet and sour chicken and other basic Chinese cuisine staples there are much better places than Chu's Eatery to get your fix. There is absolutely no reason to choose Chu's.

The best. I have been going to this restaurant for 30+ years. It has always been excellent. Good food and good prices. I have moved a bit further a way but whenever I am in the area that's where I head to eat.

This place was awesome! They let us change the combos around at no extra charge and EVERYTHING tasted like home recipes. Our server was attentive and sweet. My boyfriend has loved this place for years and now I do too.
