It's been long overdue since I came back here. This time, I brought some friends with me so I could order more variety of items. The dumplings here are a must get as they are made fresh and full of flavor. We ordered some of the items from the authentic section of the menu - which included the Di San Xian - Trio of Earth Delicacies (deep fried veggies), braised pork belly (reminds me of thit kho), and stewed pork ribs & potato noodles in casserole. We also ordered some green beans, zha jiang mian, chef special stir-fried noodles, beef noodle soup, and this special crispy sweet n sour pork (not on menu). The special sweet n sour pork dish was a hit! The texture and flavor of it went very well together (it's a style that I have not seen before). I also enjoyed the pork rib casserole and stir-fried noodles. Actually, everything we ate was good and worth trying. Our server was very quick and also attentive to our table (and only one working the front). This place has that old school vibe to it and is worth checking out (just come with friends so you can order more food).
So Portland doesn't have very many good Chinese places, but Chin's is one of the better ones. Tonight we had the standard General Tso's chicken that was nice; large fresh chicken pieces, tasty sauce. The pork and leek dumplings were also tasty. Companion had the chicken and noodles that he was very happy with. The spring rolls were crispy but kinda mushy on the inside. Table service was excellent! Lots of to go and online orders being picked up.
Love this family owned Chinese restaurant! I go here when I crave their delicious steamed dumplings. Many different fillings to choose from, all are good, plus the savory garlicky dipping sauce is fantastic. The stir fried noodles are also great, chewy noodles with the perfect ratio of meat and veggies. Can't go wrong with any menu item here. They're solid for catering parties too!
Went here for dinner with my friend prior to going to see a movie at the Hollywood Theater around the corner. Showed up at 5:30p, ordered and the food showed up at 5:50p! We got the chili noodle dish and it was AWESOME! We also go the 15 piece combo dumplings. It was good as well. Some history is my Dad worked here back in 1965 when it was then Chin's Kitchen as well but they were serving up Cantonese cuisine then. Funny that this was the first time I entered the restaurant from the front door and sat in the dining area. I typically went through the back door where the kitchen staff came and went when I was a kid. Glad this is still a Chinese restaurant and a darn good one at that! Go there and enjoy! The noodles are just next level good.
Actually pretty Americanized Northeast Chinese restaurant. Tried 3 dishes, and I would just recommend dumplings if you are Chinese especially from the Northeast. Five-Spiced Shredded Tofu Skin is very Chinese but too salty this time. I have very high expectations on Chinese Sauerkraut & Pork Stewed in Casserole, but it’s not sour enough. Plus, you have to made reservations to try Fried Pork in Scoop. Maybe it is understandable as you need to adjust the flavor to makes it popular for local Americans.
Chin’s Kitchen is awesome! All of the dishes that my wife and I ordered were cooked with fresh ingredients and had amazing flavors. The Cabbage and Pork dumplings (A2) were my personal favorite. Each dumpling was just as good as the previous. The fillings were tender and scrumptious. Probably the best I’ve ever eaten. My second favorite, The General Tso’s Chicken (F1), had a nice crunchy texture and a sweet, tangy flavor that fulfilled my expectations. This classic dish is one I’ve enjoyed many times over the years and Chin’s version is easily notable - as are most of the dishes we tried. Lastly, the staff was extremely courteous and friendly. They made us feel right at home. We’re from Orlando, Florida visiting Oregon for the first time. It was our understanding that the restaurant recently changed owners and is under new management. So, if you would, overlook the previous, bad reviews and definitely check this place out. Chin’s Kitchen is most certainly worth your time and money.
Great prices, delicious food! We had the Orange chicken lunch and the General Tso's chicken lunch and they were amazing! Everything tasted really fresh! Filled me up!
Dumplings are the star here so don't miss those. The General Tso's is some of the best in Portland. Lot of history in this place. If you haven't been you need to check it out. Plus the food works super well for takeout.
Very good! Friendly service, great flavors. Definitely a must try. Get the dumplings and the hot and sour soup. You won't regret it.
🍲I'm not from the Northeast, but this is the most homely restaurant I've ever eaten in Portland. Each dish was full of authentic Northeast Chinese flavors, especially the braised beef with potatoes, northeast dalapi and pickled cabbage dumplings, which were no different from what I had eaten in northeast China restaurants. Must have five-star reviews, if can open dine in even better ~
Unbelievably delicious, highly recommend. Also, I am usually very food sensitive and my stomach felt so good after eating this food.
I did not dine in so I cannot speak to the ambience yet but wow! Thank you for the wonderful meal!
This place really has some great food. The "beef stewed & potatoes in casserole" is outstanding, as are their house made fresh stir-fried noodle dishes. Their homemade dumplings are also on point.
While I do miss the old late night American-style Chinese food that used to come out of this building, the new owners have definitely improved this place.
Another good restaurant in Portland. This Chinese restaurant specializes in dumplings and house made noodles. I never cook - weekly I order enough food to last me for 5 days of leftover foods. Apparently they were Guy Fieri show. They also serve purple rice. And the dish I ordered that made the biggest impression was Yu-Shiang shredded pork. It has a sweet & spicy taste with some veggies. This might be the first time Ive had this Chinese dish - but I plan on ordering this regularly.
Sooo good! The dumplings are must. General Tso is crispy and the noodles are delightful.

Got delivery via DoorDash tonight and really enjoyed my meal. Probably would give it 4 stars but I've been rounding up during COVID :)
Chinese Sauerkraut and Pork (Belly) Casserole - comes with lots of sweet potato noodles. The "sauerkraut" is Chinese pickled cabbage. One of my favorite Northern Chinese dishes and they do it really well!!! Great balanced flavors, very clean tasting.
Pork and Cabbage dumplings - fresh and homey tasting. Thinking about picking up some frozen ones next time so I can always have them on hand.
Sautéed A-Choy - loved this as well. Cooked well, not too oily, super garlicky and flavorful.
Pickled Hot Chili Noodle - really loved the fresh handmade thick noodles that were cooked al dente / QQ. Probably wouldn't order this again though cause I personally didn't like the flavor. It was more like a Zha Zhang Mian with Sambal. Not what I was expecting. I would definitely try the other fresh noodle dishes though.
Appreciate a Chinese restaurant specializing in one regions cuisine - Northeastern / Dong Bei. Definitely recommend this place for these types of dishes. People who are rating it low are probably not ordering the regional dishes, they are ordering the random Americanized dishes they have to put on the menu
Chins Kitchen has been around since 1949.
There is a reason, food is ultra fresh and delicious.

Authentic cuisine from Northeast China. They were very much like home-made dishes. No dinning-in recently, the on-go provided lunch box containers wrapped in a paper bag. It was probably for environment protection. But the lunch boxes were plastic (anyway), where they were not covered well. All messy ways of leaking to ruin the paper bag as well as our car (as we were on a trip without staying in a hotel room). So be prepared, there was no place to park by the street, the paper bag could be a problem, and hard to get a good picture :(.
