Umami Cafe - Portland - Photo album

Just want to add for other people, that menu showing on Google maps is incorrect, the menu here as of 2023 is just tea and pastries, with option for miso soup and rice. There is very little option for gluten and dairy free, so be mindful when you must consider these. The staff and atmosphere is beau
I volunteer at the garden so my review will be biased. That said, this is a great place to have quiet conversations while admiring the greenery outside. They mainly have variety of Japanese teas. I like all of the tea they have. All of the teas are serves with Japanese sweets. I like all of them, si
A really great spot to try out the Japanese sets. Their green tea is excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful but can be overwhelmed when they’re busy.
Very relaxing time after walking through the garden. Put our name on the list when we first walked into the garden, right when they opened since their reservations were full. Only waited an hour. Atmosphere, tea and food, and service is great!
Very nice experience, very authentic tea at Umami Café. We thought we made the reservation, but turned out we only made the reservation for the garden… but luckily there was a outdoor seat available when we went, the staff welcomed us and was nice that we were able to get in. It was a bit cold but n
What a lovely experience! We got the tea sets and the matcha and hojicha brownies (yum). We didn’t think to make a reservation but it only ended up being a 30 min wait on a Saturday afternoon. I can see people thinking it’s expensive for tea and a snack, but the atmosphere is unique and makes up for
Very upscale and authentic experience that is great for the price. Umami allows you to relax and enjoy the cafe and scenery while sipping on 3 rounds of tea steeping. I would recommend this and the Japanese garden to anyone visiting PDX.
Beautuful, enjoyable and serene. Truly impressive architectural design. Tried the Hojicha and Chokara tea set. Also the miso soup and rice as well as the flight of three Mochi Ice Cream. Highly recommend it all. What a great way to spend a drizzly afternoon.
I had a great experience here. It was so hot the day I visited the gardens I almost didn't stop for tea. I'm so glad I did! My waitress was friendly and helpful. The hot towels are dropped into a little water spot and they soak up the water and roll out fast like that 4th of July firework snake you
Definitely make a reservation. The experience is worth the wait, though. Ask about their seasonal pairing.
Interior is simple and clean with an interesting design aesthetic on the ceiling. Reservation system makes it a breeze to get seated. Service was nice and attentive. Tea sets are nicely paired, albeit the pastries could be improved by warming to room temperature instead of being served cold. Overall
Amazing and authentic experience. Waiting time is long and would recommend to visit with reservation. Outdoor seating would be amazing for summer.
I've been to Japan, including teahoused where I've had matcha, and this was the next best thing to a trip to Japan--it was all very authentic and tasty. Our server was extremely nice and I'm so happy that such a gem exists outside of Japan--it was balm for my soul since I deeply miss Japan.
Great vibe, great service, long wait if you aren’t prepared. I flew in earlier in the day and had some time to kill before I could check in at my place, so I checked out the Japanese garden. Beautiful place, very well kept. As an avid tea drinker, seeing a tea place instantly hooked me! I didn’t re
Really good tea and tiny dishes! I got the matcha and mochi. Both were delicious. Beautiful scenery and friendly staff. Worth a stop to soak in the vibe if you make it into the Japanese Garden.
My boyfriend and I made a reservation for this café to stop by at during our visit to the park, and I'm very glad we did! The tea and snacks were delicious, the miso was nice and hearty and the waiters were attentive without being pushy. I'd especially recommend the iced mecha and the Flight of Thre
Great experience! Don't forget to make reservations. Very peaceful exclusive atmosphere, friendly accommodating staff, delicious items!
