An amazingly authentic Asian restaurant in a converted garage. They have the most incredible pairings and flavors and combine that with impeccable service. I highly suggest sitting at the bar to watch all the action. Make reservations or run the risk of missing out on Portland’s best restaurant.
Hands down the best meal we have had in a long time! The cauliflower was my favorite, but everything we are was excellent! To top it off, the staff are all incredibly nice. I would eat here every night if I could!
The cauliflower was amazing! I like how they accommodated to my dietary needs. The atmosphere was casual and it was like having a nice home-cooked meal. It had all the nostalgic Korean food that I love, plus an added modern flare.
wonderful place to eat, lots of variety, and excellently made food, would love to get back there soon.
Great ambiance. Lovely outdoor and service space. Energizing positive vibe. Tasty original takes on many menu starters or entrees. Definitely a hidden treasure for near-in Portland SE.
The Kim Chee drink w beer was amazing!! dumplings and the noodles were so fresh and delicious I wish I could eat there everyday!
I loved the food. All of the staff were friendly and fun. They comp’d our first drinks because their reservations were running a little late.
Growing up in NYC and having a Korean mom who cooks Korean food a plenty, I haven't ventured out much into Korean foods while being in Portland for the last 10+ years. I have heard of Han Oak for awhile now, wanting to try it and randomly have not had the chance. Tonight was the night, and it could not have happened on a better night. Got to meet the owners, sat next to great company (strangers who became friends while sharing the bar-seats), and rather than try two things on the menu (went solo without thinking), tried four, and can't wait to return to try the others.
I highly recommend sitting at the bar if possible where you can see them prep and cook. The energy in that kitchen is so authentic and real. Made me so happy to see this in Portland. The high accolades are well-deserved. Definitely worth a try.
A new best of PDX. Nailed everything...service , food, atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.
Looking forward to returning, as I only had 4 dishes in the menu. Everything was delightful though....
Such a different take on Korean food. It was delicious. Fun atmosphere and service was great!
Great menu and great experience. Very refreshing to see the combination of familiar flavors in new forms. This place would do so well in LA. Had to come all the way to Portland to find it.
Delicious gimbap set menu! Once you enter through Han Oak’s nondescript entrance you’ll discover a large seating area that’s a mix of indoor and outdoor. The service is top-notch. While there wasn’t a wine flight available we were able to get excellent recommendations. The cocktails are inventive and there are a few non-alcoholic beverages too. The set menu was a fun and engaging way to mix and match a broad variety of flavors and textures to make our own delicious bites. Dinner ended with a memorable shave ice that had gems of summer berries inside. We love how Han Oak switches up their menu to give us fresh takes on Korean cuisine.
The food and service here was amazing. The servers were very knowledgeable and attentive, and the Sommelier was very knowledgeable about the wines and helped us choose a great one.
The food was delicious, and the portion sizes were perfect, not too much and not too little.
Would definitely come back again!
Having seen several travel and food shows featuring this hidden gem, it's been kn my list for a few years. Han oak did not disappoint. Sunny day atmosphere, open fire grill, friendly and attentive staff, they also offered great description and instruction how to best enjoy the food (I am no stranger to Korean food but many patrons and others in our party have never experienced it before), and top shelf cocktails. Everything was flavored beautifully. If I had any real criticism, it would be the lack of pungent, spicy, and fermented punch in the face that I've grown to know eating Korean. However, this doesn't detract from the meal or experience, it's more like when someone makes the same meal you're used to having but slightly different, you just enjoy it in that different way i.e. ice cream from different places or brands. I'll be bringing many friends back to experience this place.
Excellent service and vibes. Delicious food, with right size portions (you’re not leaving here stuffed in a good way). So many flavors and styles of food to explore and learn about from extremely easy going staff! I make reservations anytime a new menu comes out. Non-alcoholic drinks are very tasty (a little pricey for the size but bonus for variety if flavors).
Their menu is currently gimbap, which means they bring a bunch of snacks to start and then a lot of assorted meat and veggies with rice and seaweed and you can put things together however you want. It's a fun concept and everything I tried was tasty, although nothing really wowed me, but I think it is supposed to be more about the experience.
Service was effortlessly friendly and hospitable and the ambiance on a warm august night with the door wide open and people eating and cooking on the patio gave vacation vibes. Great spot for a celebration and catching up with friends!
My oh my! We had a delightful birthday celebration and can't wait to go back!
The vibe is super unpretentious but with so much character. The service is top notch, I really can't say enough good things. We were treated like we were the only customers there, even though every table was full for 630-830pm service. The food is.... playful, flavorful, fun. Every bite is different, depending on how you assemble the seaweed and toppings and sauces. Plus! The Gimbap is all you can eat, if you want more if any of the things they will bring it.
We were celebrating a birthday and ordered a cocktail to start and a bottle of wine to go with dinner. The sommelier stopped by our table and offered to recommend wine which is all handpicked to go with the current menu. We went with the borachio from Australia which was SO tasty and complimented the food completely.
I just can't say enough good things about Han Oak and our experience tonight. It was a special, memorable, magical night.
An absolutely incredible dining experience. The vibes were high, the music was fire, and the food was incredible. Get the Red Monkey Makgeolli; it pours like blood and tastes like bricks 🤘
Absolutely fantastic experience! The food was beyond what we expected. So tasty! The atomosphere is very relaxed, with very attentive staff. Love the prix fixe menu. It provide plenty of options for everyone. "You'll be hearing from my lawyer" is one of my top 3 drinks of all time. We can't wait to go back!
Kimbap party was fun and delicious. The corned beef soo yuk was far and away the best dish; I could drink that broth every day. Also loved to see that they had the makgeoli from Hana in Brooklyn. So funky and dangerously drinkable. Order the soft shell crab addition!
Honestly, it’s the service that deserves the biggest shout out. Truly exceptional, all severs seeming to love food and be having fun. At one point I quietly mentioned to my boyfriend that I wanted rice to go with the broth and rice appeared on my table! When I asked “should we get a coffee and go out?” another server helping the table next to us googled the hours of the joint next door and told us we had time to go there (and explained why we needed to hit them up in the morning for the best breakfast sando). That level the kind of service we had last night, and you don’t get that often.
The best sign of a good restaurant is leaving happy. We did!
It's been a while since I've been back here. We came here the gimbap pre-set meal. It's a pretty nice concept and fun to do with a group of friends. The banchan were tasty and plenty. I liked the fact that we were able to get more protein as our group was a bit large. The shaved iced was one of the best in town. The service was very friendly and attentive.
I have been here for 3 menus, Hot Pot, Hot Grill Summer, and most recently for Gimbap Party! The food is always spectacular, but the Gimbap is our favorite menu so far! The cocktails are delicious, and the cocktail names are hilarious!
We did the dinner set menu (Gimbap party) for $65/p. The corn beef soo yook (brisket) is really creative and the beef is high quality. I like the Gimbap idea, marking hand roll ourselves has a lot of fun. The bulgogi, coppa, and Tuna are great. Last but not least, the shaved ice is amazing!

Delicious and hands on experience. My girlfriend brought me here for my birthday and we had an incredible evening. We started off with banchan and brisket in broth. Then we had a gimbap party with bulgogi, coppa, and tuna. They have 3 Korean beers for 5 dollars a can. Dessert was shaved ice with macerated peaches. The staff was very friendly and the vibe is great. All in all, a meal to remember that I would recommend to any foodie. This tasting was $65 per person.
If America's favorite goldilocks trio, Hanson, had come along 25 years later, and been from Portland, rather than Tulsa, and had eaten at this restaurant, there is no doubt in my mind that their seminal hit would have been titled "Gim-bop," rather than Mmmbop, and it would probably still be charting well into the 22nd century. Eating here is like accidentally getting invited to a party with a much cooler scene than you have a right to be at, but everybody is super chill so you just go with it, crack a couple beers, and settle in for a good time. Essentially, you walk through an unassuming doorway and find yourself in the middle of a backyard bbq party with great music and low key good vibes. Staff allays any imposter syndrome you might have with their warm welcome, and you may get to talk to the grill maestro if your timing is good. Food is incredible in quality, and quantity is set only by your own gastro-hubris. We came in expecting a nice meal and left having had a great experience. To paraphrase the immortal Hanson, hold on the ones who really care, and take them to Han Oak, and they'll be like, hey when did you get so cool and in the know, and also great dinner spot, nice find.
We had the best time enjoying our meal, staff members and atmosphere. The creative cocktails were a bright and refreshing compliment to our steamy, delicious hot pot - especially that snap pea daiquiri! Such a sweet and knowledgeable staff, we loved seeing the orchestrated teamwork from the chef's counter vantage point. Han Oak has created something truly special!
I love this place. Since moving to Portland a couple years ago I’ve wanted to come here after seeing it on Netflix. Only regret is I didn’t go sooner. I love how it is just a set menu, o decisions needed. Ban chag was amazing, and refills available. The ssam was amazing and my wife didn’t think I was serious when I said I was gonna make one from all the seaweed sheets they gave, must have been about 20. All the meats were crazy good, charcoal grilled and flavor was amazing. And to end it, the damn shaved ice was so fluffy and the peanut powder on top was out of this world. I cannot wait for the winter to see what they change their menu to.
Han Oak is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland.
We visited Han Oak in May for dinner. We loved the hot pot menu. We devoured the whole meal. There was a sweer children option as well. I also visited Han Oak in 2019, the menu was different. We ordered dumplings and noddles. The meal did not disappoint then either.
I look forward to my next visit.
