Spent the weekend in Portland and this was the first place I ate at... Left happy and full.
There isn't a ton of menu options but that's OK because they seemed to do everything well. Fried chicken sandwich was amazing, the basic breakfast was decent but nothing super special.
The service was good here as well.
Water and coffee are self serve, there are a lot of hot sauce options and a lot of cool coffee mugs
Very cute place to visit for breakfast! We had the mess of potatoes and the breakfast Sammy and both were great! Our server was very nice and efficient with our service. The wait might get a little long on a busy morning since I think there was only the one server for the whole place, so she would probably get quite busy, there were only two other tables when we went 😊
Such a nice little cafe in the neighborhood! Very friendly and pleasant. The windows were even open on the beautiful day we were there. I had the waffles with pecans and ginger butter (will try to make at home!!) and they were great! Everyone at our table was very happy with what they got.
Awesome little diner in the east Portland/Buckman area been around for years, although seems to have changed hands but you'd never really know it. Small place and is popular, so there can be a wait at peak times on weekend. Food is consistently good, service has always been friendly and coffee is top shelf! Note: coffee and water is self serve from the bar, so don't sit around thinking someone is gonna bring it; pick your mug from the "mug post" and pour up endless refills. Mgmt. prefers payment with cash to keep costs down, but they now will accept credit cards if that's what ya got. On pleasant days they will open the large windows of this old warehouse type building, making it nice and breezy. Parking can be tough sometimes as it's just a block off Grand Ave. Love this place, I go back often!
Are you hungry for breakfast, but you have plenty of time to have lunch instead? Great! Just hang out for 45 minutes and eventually someone will bring you your food. Yeah, that's your plate on the counter. You'll get it eventually.
Homemade biscuits and gravy were great. Biscuits were really fresh.
The J&M plate was just ok. Really thick bacon, and the egg and English muffin base were fine.
Thank heavens they offer coffee and water as serve yourself.
J & M Cafe is an easy to miss, hidden gem of a brunch spot. Upon entering you’re greeted by smiling servers who make sure you feel welcomed. The restaurant has a very vintage look and a simple menu that has obviously been perfected.
I tried their potato dish and had an espresso on the side. The potatoes were delicious and soft, covered in salsa and cheese with a dollop of sour cream on the top. The meal was super affordable and I cannot recommend this place enough.
I had a really nice breakfast, and the staff are friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Portland is a small city, so I'd recommend going out of your way to have breakfast here.
Love the open atmosphere. High ceilings, lots of seating options inside, some outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Serve yourself coffee and water. Great options for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Prices fair for portions. They seem to offer half portions of most dishes if you want to try a variety of the options.
Tasty classic breakfasts, delicious scrambles, and surprising specials. The table spacing is nice and wide, with large bright windows. Service was friendly, attentive, and excellent. Enjoyed the self serve coffee station. Nice selection of hot sauces.
Excellent service. A friendly and lovely waitress helped us. Food was good, standard fare for a breakfast diner but not to be underestimated. My only complaint would be that their side salad was quite bitter. It may be to some folks' tastes, but I found it unappetizing. Their breakfast sandwich, however, was absolutely delicious.
