I have been to this restaurant three times. The first time I was a little disappointed because it got a lot of hype and it replaced a German restaurant that I really loved and ate at all the time. But with Rheinlander gone from this neighborhood, this is a great alternative. Street parking can be challenging in this busy street.
We tried Stammtisch for dinner Tuesday night with a couple of friends. We arrived around 7:30. The ambiance was casual, lots of wood, relaxed, a good place to hang out with friends. We were seated immediately and ordered a round of beers. They have a pretty good selection of German beers to choose from. Something to please every palate. We weren't quite ready to order food when she dropped off the drinks. About that same time, a couple of large groups also arrived. Stammtisch must not have been prepared for that as it was about 30 minutes before our waitress returned to check on us.
For dinner we ordered the meat and cheese platter, the rabbit, the leek pasta, the sauerbraten, and the Wienerschnitzel. The meat and cheese platter contained a variety of pickled items, cheeses and charcuterie. Very tasty and I would order that again. The sauerbraten would have been better if the meat was a little less fatty and trimmed better. The Wienerschnitzel was huge and tasty. The pasta was good but pretty salty.
I liked that there was a variety of German foods and drinks to choose from. Our server was friendly but a bit scattered and I think the wait was pretty long. The food in general was interesting and tasty. I would go back to try additional dishes.
Stammtisch is the best German restaurant and pub in the Northwest. It serves German beer in the correct glassware and from the actual brewery. There are very few places in Portland that serve lagers - Stammtisch serves only the best of the best. Koster Andechs Helles is always a staple here. The food is by far the most authentic in the area and the service is excellent.
This is a terrific little German bierstoob--staff friendly but not cloying, great (GREAT!) selection of tap-beers, depending on what the latest ship from Hamburg has brought in (if they've got Korbinian, drink it!) and the food is outstanding without being too, too...Portlandy. Try the rabbit (awww, go on--don't be sentimental); roast chicken, the usual sausages--great,across the board. Be sure to join the Stein Club and get yer card punched (after you've filled out all 10 and gotten your lederhosen you might need a liver transplant).
Restaurateurs Dan Hart and Chris Navarra know how to make people feel at home, feed us well, and give us good bier and cocktails. I love their new place they named Stammtisch. On this Monday night, there was a good crowd of people ranging from 20s to middle age. Mostly younger. I expected a wide array of biers, but the quality of food and cocktails surprised me. I had the braised trout with vegetables and a wine butter reduction sauce. It was perfectly moist, flavorful, and not one single bone. My better half just had a pretzel, but she raved about that, too. After my bier, I had a gin cocktail that exceeded the standard I'd expect from Secret Society. Only this German recipe I had not seen before: gin, obstler, riesling syrup and lemon. On top of it all was a very accommodating and friendly staff in the newly-redecorated, warm setting. The policy of sharing tables "forced" us to have a great conversation with another couple. Stammtisch is a terrific new place.
Wow, what a find! Forget any uncertainty about German food and beer you may have and go enjoy the warm, comfortable surroundings of Stammtisch. The food, beer, service and vibe could not be better. The menus describe the beers and food very well, even if you can't pronounce anything. Just point at what you want and enjoy! About the only challenge you might face is street parking, but this is Portland, after all. I'll certainly return.
My husband and I finally got a date night and we picked Stammtish. We love it every time we come here. We always can't decide on a meal cause they have so many delicious options. The service was amazing! The food was delicious! We love the atmosphere and decor. I can't wait to bring my mom here again and have another date night with my husband here.
Great spot for some really good German beer and food. Try to arrive before the evening rush. The schnitzel portions are massive so make sure to arrive hungry! The staff are friendly and helpful.
The food was amazing. We stumbled in here after getting rejected from the pasta place across the street. My partner, who has spent time in Germany, had a wonderful time telling me about how this place tried to mimic an authentic beer hall in Germany. We’ll definitely be back.
Had an enjoyable dinner in this little slice of Germany on Portland east side. Kinda small place so we went early. Tons of beer selection, and lots of hearty German food. The Weinerschnitzel was so well done, light breading and perfectly fried chicken. The warm potato salad was delicious and we got a shredded carrot vegetable remoulade. Service was perfect. It was all so nice! Sorry forgot to get pics of the plate. Here’s photos of the current menu.
We popped into Stammtisch on a Sunday night around 7:30 and were able to sit down right away. Service was great— very kind and laid back. The indoors looked fun, but the weather was so nice this week we sat outside! The seating is out on the sidewalk, lit with warm string lights. It’s super cozy.
Food wise, we loved it all. The salad was sweet and refreshing, the entrees tasty, and the apple strudel was downright excellent. They have a decent selection of both medium and large sized entrees, which was really cool to see. The rinderbraten dish in particular was fantastic. The cabbage, spatzle, beef— just every component was packed with flavor and cooked just right. Great German food.
I brought my family and friends there for my birthday dinner, everyone enjoyed tge food, so many tasty items on the menu, the trout, rabbit and pork knuckle, beer and dessert. Staff was on top of serving& cleaning, felt like a beer hall! Excited to go back for oktoberfest 9/29-10/1
This is probably my favorite and what I regard as the best German place in Portland. It does everything very well.
If you want to have a weird authentic drink then order some of "diesel". It is hefeweizen and coke put together. An adult root beer float.
All the pickled vegetables were sour and crisp.
Great lunch with family. The food was fresh, really delicious and everyone was quite friendly happy with their meal. Super friendly servers and nice atmosphere, pretty busy on a Saturday around 2 so don't arrive starving! They got us in much quicker than we thought they would though so not much of a wait. The beer cheese soup is a definite must!
If you're searching for delectable meat and desserts in Portland, look no further than this place! The food here is absolutely fantastic and will leave your taste buds in a state of pure bliss. Chef Graham is an incredibly talented chef, and his culinary expertise is clearly reflected in every dish. This place is a true paradise for your stomach, and I highly recommend it!
My fave place in Portland now!
Excellent schnitzel. They also have spaetzle. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Reasonably priced, nice atmosphere and terrific/ friendly staff.
Flavorful German dishes and beers in Portland. My favorite dish is their Schweinshaxe.
My dad, who is German, and I love this place! Excellent quality and authentic! Great lunch prices. Maybe my new favorite restaurant and wish we had discovered it sooner. INSANELY good horseradish mustard. One of the top German restaurants in Portland!
We enjoyed trying new dishes and beverages . You can eat inside or out. Service was good. Parking was a challenge, but it is Portland. Enjoy the walk 😉
Great food and drink, fun atmosphere, great service. Love visiting this place!
Great German food in SE Portland. One of the few place I give 5 stars. The wienerschnitzel is moist inside and fried just right on the outside with good breading (doesn't taste like it came from a box like so many places). The pork knuckle is very rich and Smoky and juicy. The beer selection is good and goes best with their wonderful pretzel 😁
